Hudson Hall is proud to present the NY premier of RAGMALA a work by Go: Organic Orchestra & Brooklyn Raga Massive, composed and spontaneously conducted by Adam Rudolph. This event will celebrate the release of their 3LP album Ragmala – A Garland of Raga which critics are already comparing to Miles Davis’ seminal album Bitches Brew.

Over 20 musicians will perform at Hudson Hall for this epic new work. RAGMALA brings together Brooklyn Raga Massive and Go: Organic Orchestra into a synergistic exploration of raga, India’s classical music and contemporary creative music. Composer Adam Rudolph’s hypnotic polyrhythmic explorations propel the musical journey. Brooklyn Raga Massive has been making waves for their role instigating what The New York Times, New Yorker, and Wall Street Journal have called a “Raga Renaissance.” The Go: Organic Orchestra with Adam Rudolph has been pushing the boundaries of large ensemble creative music for over 20 years.

Andy Shapiro grew up on Gun Hill Road in the Bronx in the 1950s, dreaming the dreams that came from listening to his sister’s Four Seasons and Beach Boys records.

Andy fell in love with the guitar as a nine-year-old listening to his mother strum folk songs, and picked up the electric guitar in the 60’s. Inspired by the Beatles and the Stones, and then Cream and Jimi Hendrix, he left college to become a full-time musician, and toured New England in a Country Rock band playing Emmy Lou, Linda Ronstadt, Hank, Johnny, Merle and the rest of the gang. Andy was part of the Boston music scene in the 70’s and 80’s in the locally renowned band “The Catch,” and then took time off to raise a family.

Andy picked up the guitar again in the new millennium, this time to become a singer-songwriter. He released his first CD “Find My Way Home” in May 2018, and his song “Through The Looking Glass”, from that album, won Honorable Mention at the 2019 Posi Music Festival.

Recognized as one of the best all-around dance bands in Big Band history, when it came to playing ballads the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra was in a league all its own. Dubbed “The Sentimental Gentleman of Swing,” the renowned American jazz trombonist, composer, conductor and bandleader was a master at creating warm, sentimental musical moods with superb dancing and listening tempos. Working with such talented arrangers as Paul Weston, Axel Stordahl and Sy Oliver to help create the mood, Dorsey showcased singers who could cast the spell, like Jack Leonard and Frank Sinatra, who’s career blossomed with the band.

Singer-Songwriter
Unison Arts & Learning Center
68 Mountain Rest Road
New Paltz, NY   See Map
Local singer/songwriters, Shabbat Rusciolleli and Seth Davis will each perform their own sets.

Shabbat’s lyrics consistently beckon for love and peace in a poet’s voice tinged with the right amount of angst and hope. Her musical compositions are lush and innovative while remaining accessible to the most discerning ears. A writer with things to say.

Seth Davis has four wonderfully produced CD’s under his belt with an array of the Hudson Valley’s most highly regarded musicians. His compositions always leave the listener in a better place as he tackles tough themes that challenge us all: family, friends, the environment, politics. There is a lightness pervading the heaviness, though, that indicates a deep love of his subjects and indeed for humanity in general.

Together, Shabbat and Seth will have you leaving the theater more woken, less broken, and ready to smile!

The Funky World Jazz Fusion project of keyboardist and composer Neil Alexander celebrates with new tunes and new arrangements. NAIL continues to evolve, exploring and incorporating new musical elements. Focusing on original music, "synthmaster" Neil remains the driving force and primary composer for the group.

nailmusic.com/the-band

Starting more than two decades ago, the original lineup included bassist Keith Macksoud, drummer Scott Morehouse, and guitarist Dan Johanson.

NAIL has released four CDs, the latest recorded live at the Blue Note’s “Late Night Groove Series” in NYC. A new disc is planned as a finale to their 20th anniversary tour dates.

“I love the orchestration aspect of it”, says Neil. “A lot of our earlier material was composed for a specific set of gear. Now that I’m back to using a traditional rig I’ve had to re-work all the tunes for the new setup, which has breathed incredible new life into the music.“

Not all FUNK is created equal. A beat with no syncopation, a bass with no grooooooooove, vocals with no soul - leave the listener with a severe case of Honky-Pox. We recommend a soul vaccination administered painlessly by The Funk Junkies.

Kinky Friedman is releasing Resurrection, a new studio album of original songs produced by Larry Campbell. Kinky’s latest is a fully-arranged roots record that Campbell and Friedman made with Americana radio in mind.

The title track to Resurrection is a charging Texas-country number featuring Willie Nelson joining in halfway through the song to sing with his old friend Friedman:

“What’s in my heart is in my soul is in a day-old donut hole,” Friedman and Nelson sing in the spirited ode to late-in-life perseverance.

For over a decade Brian Molnar has been carrying his acoustic guitar and wrought melodies across the US and Europe, connecting audiences with a feeling of American tradition. Now, with a new album of traditional songs, Old Paint, and sharing the stage with contemporaries Ralph Stanley, Chris Hillman, Bernie Worrell, Garth Hudson, Neal Cassal, and Kinky Friedman, it seems that a genuine Americana resurgence is upon us.

Brian is credited with the production of Kinky Friedman’s last two albums, The Loneliest Man I Ever Met (2015) and The Circus of Life (2018), the artist’s first two album’s since the 1970s, are both critically acclaimed and loved by all. Over the past few years, Brian and Kinky have toured the country as well as overseas, selling out venues everywhere.

“...Old Paint is gorgeous...you can’t go wrong with those songs...voice is sweet and strong--bravo.” -- Michael Simmons, Mojo

The songs he has recorded alone, and with Anne Mayo Muir and Gordon Bok, are some of the most beautiful ever recorded.
