Blues, Rock (classic), and Soul
Spencertown Academy Arts Center
790 State Route 203
Spencertown, NY   See Map
Over the past five years, the Amy Ryan Band has gained an enthusiastic following for its high-energy blend of blues, rock, and soul. In 2015, the group won Capital Region Blues Network’s qualifying competition to represent the region at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Guitarist Richard Green saw an opportunity to join forces with a gutsy female singer with the potential to lead a great blues band. Melding Ryan’s country-blues vocals and Green’s urban blues and rock sensibilities, the band also includes bassist Dave Imbaratto, drummer Mark McKay and keyboard player Ed Stein. Their repertoire includes band adaptations of Ryan’s self-penned solo tunes, newly minted originals, and select covers. General admission tickets ($20 public, $15 Academy members, and $10 students) may be purchased in advance via www.spencertownacademy.org and, pending availability, will be available at the door.

Gurf Morlix’s “IMPOSSIBLE BLUE" (2019) is the 10th solo album from the Austin-based songwriter, producer, and award-winning Americana musician.

"There’s a dark intimacy to Gurf Morlix’s albums. They can be so spooky and real that you’d swear he’s in the same room with you."- Glide Magazine

https://www.gurfmorlix.com/

A native of Buffalo, NY, Morlix began his career in 1966. He taught himself to play music after his attention was snagged by Elvis, and then by Hank Williams. Blown away by Williams' talent, he focused on country music, and headed for California, where he met Lucinda Williams. Morlix ended up leading her band, singing, and playing guitar, as well as producing her albums.

The ever-evolving arc of his songwriting has begun to bend toward the confessional, though even his most open-hearted reveals on IMPOSSIBLE BLUE prove that living-on-bonus-time Gurf Morlix is still unmistakably,...well, Gurf Morlix.
