![]() "...a cathartic musical journey....wrapped in a collectively told and engaging story.... It took Fort and her trio twenty years to get to this magical place of trust and forbearance. From where I’m sitting, it was well worth the wait.” - Sam Newsome, Saxophonist [“[Colour” liner notes] http://www.anatfort.com/ For Anat Fort, improvisation is a way of living; whether playing, composing or teaching her work is always inspired by the moment. A natural, life-long improviser, she discovered the depth of jazz in her teens. Coming to the US to study with Harold Mabern, Rufus Reid and Paul Bley, Anat developed the writing aspect of her creativity through the study of classical and jazz composition. In December 2018 she received the prestigious Prime Minister Jazz Composers Award [Israel]; the first woman to ever win this prize. The Limp: https://youtu.be/6PP2XTvQN7U

![]() Sunday 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm | Rachel Marie Singer-Songwriter, Folk/Traditional, and Americana | Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts Online: www.wtbq.com or 93.5FM, NY See Map |
Rachel Marie follows in a tradition of unapologetically forthright women folksingers, with songs that hearken to "overstuffed lines of Tori Amos, philosophical turn of Indigo Girls, and lilting vocals like Joni Mitchell." The social awareness of folk meets the introspection of the singer-songwriter tradition with a moderate dose of snark. Rachel takes a straightforward and honest approach to songwriting in an effort to foster genuine human connection and encourage empathy through music. Passion for using the power of her voice to shed light on injustice gives rise to poignant poetic statements on subjects from heartbreak and death to police brutality and immigration. An endearingly quirky stage presence as honest as her songs keeps audiences charmed. Boston-based and Pennsylvania-raised, Rachel has played at prestigious folk venues including the me&thee, Club Passim, and Godfrey Daniels. Rachel's latest full-length album, False Foundations, was released in May 2018.

![]() It’s still there on Violet Avenue (Rt.9G) in Hyde Park, the place where it all began in the Summer of 1979. Kevin Becker and Gary Strait, two folk music performers, inspired by the liner notes of Peter, Paul and Mary’s In The Wind album, sought a spot for like-minded musicians in the Hudson Valley to gather and perform for themselves and others. On July 29th that year, behind the Amber Lantern Tavern’s doors, the Hudson Valley Folk Guild was born. Forty years later, the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is still going strong. Performers will include Kevin Becker, Kris Boccardi, Peter Crispell, Mike Failla, Tom Kelly, Ken Mort, Jon Sweet and more... Info: 845-229-0170

![]() Friday 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm | On Tour from Philadelphia & NYC! with Jack Wright, Olchar Lindsann, Matt Bachmann Alternative. Experimental | Kingston Artist Collective 63 Broadway Kingston, NY See Map |
![]() Matt Bachmann (Chicago) Originally from Chicago, and living in Brooklyn currently, Matt Bachmann has previously played bass in Ed Askew's band and returns to the KAC, on tour with his new group! +++ Jack Wright (Saxophone, from Philadelphia) & Olchar Lindsann (Poetry) Olchar Lindsann would be called a sound poet, but that's just a cover for creative howling --“vocal contortions & frothing at the mouth." Trigger warning for slobbering, but draws the line at spitting. Yes he does write, but he will only be scribbling on this tour behind the scenes. He's been called "A rootless cosmopolitan and cultural radical who finds scraps of solace and inspiration down by the Roanoke River"--a wanderer from the Midwest, then the UK, and back to New Jersey, but now frimly rooted in Roanoke, where he lives a relatively normal life.
