"Despite his success and sense of history, Mr. Paul remains an artist with his eye on the future and an interest in discovering the transformative potential in his music."
The New York Times
Some artists document their lives through their music. Others chronicle their times. Its a rare artist who can do both, telling their own story through songs that also encapsulate the essence of people and places who have helped define their era overall. Woody Guthrie comes to mind, and so does Bob Dylan. Bruce Springsteen certainly as well. Yet few others, for whatever genius they may possess, can relate their own history to the history experienced by those who find that common bond, be it in a coming of age, living through the same realities or sharing similar experiences.Ellis Paul is one of those gifted singer/songwriters. Aretha Franklin ~ honored as a legend and the undeniable queen of all things soul.Purdie's been honing his craft since he was a child, but at least one of the iconic grooves of his career happened by accident — when a piece of sheet music slid out of place at a session with Aretha Franklin. "We were actually recording 'Rock Steady.' She's at the piano. Chuck Rainey on the bass. Cornell Dupree. Hugh McCracken, he was there, too. But ...her music fell off the piano," he says. "The red light was on...you are recording. Tape was very, very expensive." So, Purdie says, he seized the moment and bashed out a drum break. "We kept the music going, and I captured the eight bars that has taken me around the world. Everybody thought it was the most phenomenal drum break in my life — and all I was doing was keeping my time. 98 percent of the people in the world didn't know my drum break was an accident. I love it." - NPR Music

Thursday 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm | CD Release Party!! with Trio Mio Rock (modern), Americana, and Pop/Soft Rock | High Falls Café 12 Stone Dock Road High Falls, NY See Map |
It's been SIX (6!) years since the release of our first CD -- "Love... and Other Storms" -- and you're invited to help us celebrate "Rise Up / Stand Up", a double album of the band's latest material. Many different and varied influences come to play in Fran Palmieri's songwriting, and the band continues to impress with the tight harmonies and soaring guitar solos that Trio Mio's audience has come to expect in their live shows. This 23-song album features some of Fran's finest work, with story lines covering everything from contemporary politics (DC People), to the age-old struggles of the oppressed classes (God Bless the Working Man, Rise Up), from Voltaire (Turn Out Delight is a modern take on Candide) to Groucho Marx (Seasons). There are light-hearted moments (Please Don't Leave Me, The Last Time), and dark story-songs (Come Away, Another Lonely Boy in Paradise), but the band navigates these widely diverse themes with grace and grit. Hope to see you there! Listen to the tracks or buy the album here

Lee, Brandon and Will rose to national attention backing Donald Fagen of Steely Dan, as "The Nightflyers" on his last national tour. Now, The Restless Age steps out as a unit of songwriters, singers and instrumentalists. Still Lookin' for a Good Way Out: https://youtu.be/5lmCMqT3ck8

Thursday 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm | Jeremy Baum Trio: Charlie "Baum" Christmas, Sue Williams / Acoustic Bass, Peter O'Brien / Drums | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
A tribute to Vince Guaraldi's 1965 studio album, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" - considered one of the most beloved holiday albums recorded. The soundtrack introduced jazz with grace, charm, and creativity, to an entirely new generation, having been heard by more individuals than the work of the genre's most influential players, and influenced dozens of young aspiring musicians.Guaraldi showed how a piano, bass and drums capture a feeling and character in living color, particularly if those feelings are complex, conflicted or even simply too beautiful for words .....opening doors for later discoveries in Bill Evans, Thelonious Monk, Robert Glasper....to say nothing of all the other sounds and ensembles waiting to be heard with jazz at its pulse. - LA Times Falcon favorite Jeremy Baum plays the Hammond Organ, piano. Look out for his album "The Eel", featuring funky, bluesy compositions as well as original arrangements of songs. Christmas Dance: https://youtu.be/s1LUXQWzCno
