Drum wizard and groove inventor, Walker Adams, is an Original Funk-Jazz drummer best known for his work with St. Vincent, Percy Jones (Brian Eno), and the NYC-based rock band The Ludlow Thieves. He leads his group of noteworthy NYC jazz musicians through original compositions featuring deep grooves, soaring melodies, and exploratory improv.

Walker's current album is titled Perpetual Motion. Adams believes music and dance are the essence of life. The Vermonter-turned-Brooklynite combines jazz, funk and rock into a pulsating orb of danceable, future-funk. His degree from Berklee and work with fusion bassist Percy Jones, art-pop icon St. Vincent, and The Roots bassist Mark Kelley is apparent in his complex, original grooves and virtuosic solos.

"Winard Harper is one of his generation's greatest standards bearers." Downbeat Magazine

Winard Harper has performed with some of the greatest names in jazz. At 20, he was playing the drums first with Dexter Gordon, and then Johnny Griffin, and honed his chops for the next four years under the tutelage of the late, great Betty Carter.

With his brother Philip Harper on trumpet, Winard led The Harper Brothers, one of the hottest groups of the post-bop era and produced the chart topping Remembrance: Live at the Village Vanguard.

Winard has released four CD's to his credit: Be Yourself (1994), Trap Dancer (1998), Winard (1999), and Faith with Carrie Smith (2000). He is one of the most sough-after sidemen on the jazz circuit; has been exploring African rhythms that influence his work, and is noted for his abilities on the cymbals, which under his hand become an outstanding solo instrument all their own.

Sunday Evening Jazz
with Nate Wood's "fOUR"
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Nate Wood's new project, fOUR, is an ambitious take on solo performance. Here, Wood is playing everything — analog synths, drums and bass, sometimes adding vocals — all at the same time. As well, he’s recording every song in one pass with no overdubs, click track or pre-recorded backing tracks. “That’s why it’s called "fOUR", because it’s me with four limbs playing four instruments at once,” says Wood.

The project certainly touches upon all aspects of Wood’s career (jazz, improv, rock, singer-songwriter) and influences (long-time favorite Aphex Twin in particular).

Throughout his storied career, Wood has recorded or performed with Wayne Krantz, Sting, Tigran Hamasyan, The Calling, Donny McCaslin, Chaka Khan and Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders. He’s also a core member of the Grammy-nominated jazz collective Kneebody and a sought-after studio engineer.

In 2005 Barry Adelman heard the voice of God. It whispered "Music for Humanity". He looked around, no one was there, but he couldn't deny the whisper. It was like the whisper in the movie Field of Dreams; Barry knew he had to take action. He looked up Music for Humanity on the internet and discovered the name reserved, but no website. Barry contacted the person, Kurt Irmiter, who had reserved the name, and together they decided to create a not-for-profit, Music for Humanity. In 2007 Music for Humanity was officially given a 501c-3 status by the IRS, which means donations to MFH are tax-deductible. MFH has given 42 music scholarships from $1000 to $8000. More music means a better world for all of us.
