DEFINE FUNK! A music genre that originated in the mid-1960s, with James Brown's development of a signature groove that emphasized the downbeat—with heavy emphasis on the first beat of every measure - "THE ONE".

Funk brings the strong rhythmic groove of a bass line and the drummer to the foreground - based on an extended vamp on a single chord, distinguishing it from R&B and soul. Funk uses the same richly-colored extended chords found in bebop jazz, such as minor chords with added sevenths and elevenths, or dominant seventh chords with altered ninths.

With Special Guest Corey Glover of Living Color

Featuring Funk Masters:

Rich Fracassi on Bass and Vocals of the Funk Junkies

Neil Alexander on Keys and Synth of Mr Gone

Gennaro Esposito on Guitar of the Funk junkies

Pete Furlan on Tenor Sax of Mr Gone

Blues, Jazz, and Funk
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
"Both traditional and trailblazing...Highly recommended." - Blues Review Magazine

Jeremy's trio is rooted in the blues and funky soul-jazz sounds of the late 1960s (Booker T. and the MG's, The Meters, Jimmy Smith) and is informed by the current masters of the groove from the jam-band scene (Medeski, Martin, and Wood, Soul-Live, Derek Trucks Band.)

With his second album, The Eel, full of funky new compositions as well as original arrangements of songs by Beck, Prince, James Brown and more! Producer, Dave Gross says that"Jeremy Baum knocks it out of the park with 10 Hammond organ and piano driven arrangements." - Dave Gross

Steven Alper calls his playing "Brilliant...subtle... effervescent". "This guy knows the Hammond from the inside out, digging out the sounds of the physical tone wheels from the new electronic box." - Steven M. Alper

$10 admission. For reservations, call 914-737-1701.

An upright Bassist who sings! A Singer who plays upright bass! Cool, man, cool.

Chris Conte performs classic, swinging American Songbook Jazz & Blues favorites. He takes influence from musical legends such as Nat "King" Cole, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Steve Tyrell, Harry Connick Jr. and Diana Krall, while his voice is often compared to that of a young Chet Baker or Mel Torme. His performance will satisfy audiences of all types.

While his singing, bass playing, and band mates will be featured, the real stars of the night are the timeless songs.
