Afrobeat, Jazz & Funk
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
NYC / Boston's freshest Afrobeat-Jazz group, The Brighton Beat is a positive Afrobeat force, aimed at getting the crowd dancing and bootys shaking. Heavily influenced by Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, but in no way traditional, the group creates grooves reminiscent of Herbie Hancock, at times reaching the raw, unbridled expression found in the music of Miles Davis and Freddie Hubbard.

The Brighton Beat stormed onto the scene with their debut, "The Brighton Beat EP" in 2010. Their first full-length album, "The Brighton Beat LP" has been critically acclaimed and featured in independent films. Their follow-up album, "Off We Go", released in January 2015, has been distributed around the world.

CASE OF THE THREE-SIDED DREAM: A Documentary Film
with Rashaan Roland Kirk
Jazz
Time & Space Limited
34 Columbia St, Hudson, NY 12534
Hudson, NY   See Map
Kirk was a one-of-a-kind musician, personality, satirist, and windmill-slayer who despite being blind, becoming paralyzed, and facing America’s racial injustices – did not relent. His life’s work was exploring sound and making music. Beyond that, he was an outspoken activist who started a political movement to get more exposure for jazz in America – particularly on TV. Dreams were important to Rahsaan. They planted the seed in his mind to play three horns simultaneously. His name came from dreams. When asked about his religious beliefs, he would say: I’m from the Religion of Dreams. At the age of 40, Rahsaan suffered a stroke which left him half paralyzed. Despite this, he continued to tour and play music, with the use of only one hand, literally, until the day he died. 2014. 1h28m.

Lil' Larry Jr. has been playing and singing Funky Rhythm and Blues for over 35 years. Now lead guitarist, his lively percussive and rhythmic riffs sculpted by years of drumming makes for unique sound that gets an audience jumpin'! Right by his side is the beautiful Angie Santiago singing duets and sharing lead vocals. Pat "Squale" DiMarco performs on the harp and keys with an excitement that is contagious. Walin' Huw Phillips on the organ can make you "feel like you're in church while sinning in the club". What's an R&B band without rhythm and we have plenty of that with Andy Rice (Hey Baby) on bass rocking the place. Lil' Larry Jr. & the Squall is one of the few original Westchester acts that can get you "out of your seat and moving your feet."

JB3's THURS NIGHT residency in April!
with The Jeremy Baum Trio
Blues, Jazz, and Roots Music
Dogwood
47 East Main St.
Beacon , NY   See Map
Jeremy’s trio is rooted in the blues and funky soul-jazz sounds of the late 1960s (think Booker T. and the MG’s, The Meters, Jimmy Smith!) His style is also informed by the current masters of the groove from the jam-band scene (Medeski, Martin, and Wood, Soul-Live, Derek Trucks Band.) Jeremy has been playing festivals and jazz clubs in the New England region since the release of his first album - LOST RIVER JAMS back in 2002. The Eel - available now on Flying Yak Records!!! Jeremy Baum returns with his second album full of funky new compositions as well as original arrangements of songs by Beck, Prince, James Brown and more! Recorded by the fantastic Dave Gross at Fat Rabbit Studios, this album features many of the best and brightest musicians from New York City and the Hudson Valley/Woodstock NY area!

with John Hiatt

Paramount Hudson Valley Theater
1008 Brown Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Los Angeles Times calls John Hiatt “…one of rock’s most astute singer-songwriters of the last 40 years,” and for good reason. John Hiatt has received a Grammy nomination for his album Crossing Muddy Waters, his own star on Nashville’s Walk of Fame, the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting, has been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was saluted at the Indiana Governor’s Arts Awards! Hiatt’s latest album Terms of My Surrender is musically rooted in acoustic blues, accentuated by Hiatt’s soulful, gritty voice, which mirrors the gravity of his reflective lyrics. He’ll be playing songs from his new album and many of your favorites live in this not-to-miss acoustic set.
