"[Radio Blues, Severn Records] is some damn fine dirty white blues, 100% in the tradition and made by a quintet nodding very heavily back to black origins." - acousticmusic.com

Philadelphia is home to one of the finest blues harp players in the world, for nearly 40 years. 2009 Handy Award nominee Steve Guyger has been dishing out the finest blues. whether in a duo, trio, or with his band, The Excellos, Steve rocks the house with every gig.

Steve has toured with the late Jimmy Rogers, among others, and has played with many of the great Chicago bluesmen and contemporary players, yet remains one of the best kept secrets in blues. The late William Clarke called Steve “the best harp player I’ve ever seen.” Mark Hummel called him “a monster player.” If you’ve never heard him, you’re missing a major page in your blues portfolio.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is a contemporary swing revival band from southern California. Their notable singles include "Go Daddy-O", "You & Me & the Bottle Makes 3 Tonight (Baby)", and "Mr. Pinstripe Suit". The band played the Super Bowl XXXIII half-time show in 1999. The band was originally formed in Ventura, California, in 1989 by leader Scotty Morris. The band was named Big Bad Voodoo Daddy after Scotty Morris met blues guitar legend Albert Collins at one of the latter's concerts. "He signed my poster 'To Scotty, the big bad voodoo daddy'," Morris explains. "I thought it was the coolest name I ever heard on one of the coolest musical nights I ever had. So when it came time to name this band, I didn't really have a choice. I felt like it was handed down to me." He and Kurt Sodergren are the two "original" members, with the rest of the band joining later. The band has concentrated on the swing of the 1940s and '50s, playing clubs and lounges in their early years.

Some artists document their lives through music. Others chronicle their times. It’s a rare artist who can do both, telling their own story through songs that also encapsulate the essence of people and places who have helped define their era. Woody Guthrie comes to mind, so does Bob Dylan. Yet few others, for whatever genius they may possess, can relate their own history to the history experienced by those who find that common bond, be it a coming of age, living through the same realities or sharing similar experiences. Ellis Paul is one of those gifted singer/songwriters. Though some refer to him as a folksinger, he is more a singular storyteller, a musician whose words reach out from inside and yet also express feelings, thoughts and sensibilities that most can relate to some, regardless of age or upbringing. The exhilaration of the open road. A celebration of heroes. Hope for redemption. Descriptions of those both near and dear. Sharing of love; intimate, passionate and enduring.

Wednesday Night Jam The Postage Inn 838 Rt. 32 Tillson, NY www.postageinn.com

We've been having a great time playing our bluesy jazzy originals and have been joined by dozens of fine players to jam on tunes of many genres.

We will be playing a short opening set at 8 PM then sharing the stage with other musicians and friends.

JOIN US FOR GOOD FOOD, DRINKS AND GROOVING TUNES. (check out the music night menu and home made deserts)

(Musicians note) There will be a sign up sheet for any players who want to take the stage. The PA, guitar and bass amp and drums will be provided. We will try to match players for the best musical expression. Each player is guaranteed 3 songs as time permits.

The singer generally calls the tune which can be in any genre as long as the other players know it. The blues is always a good fall back as everyone should know the 12 bars.

Our guiding principals are: RESPECT THE OTHER PLAYERS NOT TOO LOUD HAVE A GOOD TIME!

Trad O’Matics plays traditional Irish music on fiddle, flute, accordion and bodhran(Irish frame drum). While Irish music can take many contemporary forms, traditional Irish music -- jigs, reels and other types of tunes -- all derive from various Irish dances. Trad O’Matics enthusiastic performance of this style of music ranges from raucous reels to plaintive airs and waltzes. With a lively sound, Trad O’Matics evokes the emotions of Ireland's immigrants to America and those of the folk who stayed behind. On St. Patrick’s Day we share these universal themes: loss, hope, regret & joy. We are all immigrants, so celebrate with Trad O’Matics on St. Patrick’s Day at Elsies’ Place from 7pm - 10:30pm

The group is taking the concept of the organ trio in a new and different direction, drawing on many different influences and styles. Paul Green, founder of School of Rock, has been teaching kids to play rock music, including the music of iconic composer, Frank Zappa, since 1998. Green has been the subject of the documentaries "Rock School" and "Woodstock:Then and Now", and the inspiration for Jack Black's character in the film "School of Rock".

His students have played at Lollapalooza, Carnegie Hall, CBGBs, and Austin City Limits, among other notable venues and festivals. They have shared the stage with Perry Farrell, Jon Anderson, Gene Ween, and Alice Cooper, to name a few.

No musician had a longer tenure with Frank Zappa, or appeared on more albums, than Ed Mann. Being Frank Zappa's percussionist meant playing the hardest lines and rhythms while supplying a batterie of acoustic and electronic sounds. Ed did so with great skill and aplomb, and served as"clonemeister" running band rehearsals in Zappa's absence.

Ed's post-Zappa career has been rich and varied.

Seattle based Guitarist Frank Kohl travels east in support of his new CD "Invisible Man". Earshot Jazz Magazine says Frank's "soaring solos and swinging tunes unveil a spirit tuned into the moment and where the notes may lead...while Kohl clearly mastered technique, his solos ring true with room for breath and emotion".

Frank released his first record "Reform" in 1981 featuring world famous bassist Michael Moore. In the SF Bay area he became a member of Don McCaslin Sr’s band Warmth. He now lives in Seattle, and in 2008 released his CD "Coast To Coast" featuring Pianist and brother Tom Kohl. All About Jazz gives the CD 5 stars, stating "from first to last Coast To Coast is done with a memorable conviction and even greater facility".

Franks new CD "Invisible Man" features Bassist Steve LaSpina, Tom Kohl on Piano and Jon Doty Drums. This is also the group Frank will be performing with.

with The Norris Brothers Band
Rock (classic), Jazz
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
The Norris Brothers band started off as a group of musicians getting together to share the joy of music. On a weekly basis Tim Norris (keys), Matt Norris (drums), Hank DeCora (guitar) and John Hahn (trombone) would get together to shed the musical stylings of Steely Dan. Over the course of time, their repertoire has expanded to include many jazz, soul and rock classics.

All four players are world-class musicians and impromptu musical attempts are a frequent occurrence. It's more than jamming. It's a focus on creating musical statements that move musicians and listeners alike.

There is no shortage of Steely Dan in the set list, but you might hear hints of Miles Davis classics, Hall and Oates hits as well as some James Brown.

Come groove to the Steely Dan album Aja and other fine songs.
