You are cordially invited to fall in love with Greek-born singer, accordionist, film scorer and composer Magda Giannikou, Banda Magda moves from baiao to jazz manouche, from Greek dance rhythms to samba beats. Their songs, sung in French (with forays into six other languages), hearken back to the golden age of Brazilian bossa, the best of cinematic arranging, and the lush chic of vintage French pop, all while drawing on the band’s global background. Trained in film scoring at Berklee, Giannikou’s film music finesse has won her awards and caught the attention of everyone from Kronos Quartet to Louis CK (she sang a duet with CK for the comedian’s TV show).

Bill O'Connell Latin Jazz Project
Latin, Jazz

Marlboro, NY   See Map
For many years Bill O'Connell worked as the go-to pianist and arranger for artists such as Mongo SantaMaria, Dave Valentin, Gato Barbieri,The Fort Apache Band among others. Bill has, perhaps more that any other pianist, developed a true melding of Latin and Jazz music. His playing, from robust chordal comping to exuberant and sometimes knotty solos, transcends categorization and combines rhythmic complexities with glittering single note runs in a sort of Bud Powell-meets-Chick-Corea sound. O'Connell provides a thoughtful program of originals and a few re-imagined standards filled with energy and high spirits from a powerful voice in Latin Jazz.

This nationally-presented entertainer performs songs and excerpts from her novel-with-songs, BLAME IT ON HOBOKEN and more at music and arts venues and private events. And she’s always up for a fun collaboration! How did a nice girl from the Philly burbs get to a lovely, music-fueled place like this? Trained as a journalist at Columbia University, Sharon found her true beat entertaining audiences with stories and songs on stage, page and radio. BLAME IT ON HOBOKEN sets a funny, modern love story with a touch of math and mystery in Frank Sinatra’s hometown. Two tracks are COMBO songwriting contest prizewinners. A heartfelt tribute and celebration of the music of Laura Nyro, one of the greatest pop songwriters of the 20th century - Featuring Christine Spero /Piano/Vocal, Elliot Spero/Saxes/Percussion, Scott Petito/Bass and Peter O'Brien/Drums.

"Christine Spero and I shared a bill and I knew that she was doing a tribute to my old friend Laura Nyro, but I wasn’t prepared for just how amazing Christine’s performance turned out to be. She was able to channel Laura with all the feeling and intelligence that the music warranted, but, at the same time, made Laura’s music her own." - Steve Katz (Blood, Sweat and Tears and the Blues Project)

Pianist, singer Christine Spero and her group take the listener on a journey through some of Laura’s most memorable work- poignant and timeless. The arrangements are hip, the vocals are beautiful, the musicianship is stellar, and true to Nyro’s originals. Doors, Bar & Restaurant open at 5:30. Music at 7:00.
Music at 7:00. No Cover. Donations encouraged.

“Jeffrey Gaines is the voice of a new generation.” - Rolling Stone

"...an impressive calling card....Gaines's songs are engagingly effective in their directness....with a lyrical style which is often uncomfortably honest." - Q Magazine

"Gaines is intensely sensitive but in a completely disingenuous, unaffected way, and his grasp of the gulf between inner dreams and street realities makes these unvarnished narratives completely believable." This honesty carried through into Gaines' live performances." - Stereo Review

Singer-songwriter Jeffrey Gaines has gone against the grain since releasing his first folk-oriented album during the grunge rage of the early 1990s. Causing difficulties for radio programmers with his boundary-crossing music, however, Gaines built a loyal following through passionate concert performances and a series of intensely personal albums, based on his singular voice and distinctive narratives.
