Tickets for the 3nd Annual International Soup Bowl Benefit are on sale now. The Annual International Soup Bowl Benefit, an evening of music, conversation, soup and bread, with seating anytime between 5 to 8 p.m.The event will feature an ongoing musical performance by the Jazz Pioneers, a non-traditional Big Band in Poughkeepsie, New York. They combine the classical swing sounds of Tommy Dorsey and Count Basie with music from visionaries like Buddy Rich and Maynard Ferguson, as well as more modern artists like Billy Joel and Brian Setzer. This very straight ahead piano trio is so well done, has such enthusiasm and energy, that they are undoubtedly one of the best on the scene.They are not just good, they are uncommonly good.Born in Tokyo, Japan, Tadataka Unno won first prize in the solo division at the Asakusa Jazz Contest in 2003, First Prize and the People's Favorite award at the Yokohama Jazz Promenade, was selected to attend Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. in 2010, and also attended the Jazz Rising Stars Program of Ravina Festival in Chicago that same year. Unno has performed and recorded with Japan's top bassist’s, Yoshio Suzuki's trio, trombonist Clifton Anderson, drummer Winard Harper, and jazz legends Geroge Mraz, Jimmy Cobb, Hassan J.J. Jerry's notable collaborations include two recordings for soul-jazz pioneer Melvin Sparks, Jim Paynes, and John Basile. Sought after as a sideman, Jerry Z performed and recorded with Doug Munro, Delbert McClinton, Hiram Bullock, Adam Nussbaum, John Scofield, Bernard Purdy, Oz Noy, and others. A seasoned NYC session player, Andy Stack decided to leave the city for the Hudson Valley in June 2013. Within 6 months he had written a full album of original music with his new band, Buffalo Stack, released in August of 2014. The NY Times described him as "full of fragile melody and tensile strength". For anyone who loves joyful, unpretentious, but highly creative and spontaneous jazz, Todd Londagin’s new album Look Out For Love will be a delightful discovery. In the company of four longstanding musical cohorts, Todd has assembled a repertoire of 10 songs, culled from the Great American Songbook and popular songs.
Bassist Jennifer Vincent and drummer David Berger have been playing with Todd since the early 1990s (all three were original members of the successful ‘90s band, The Flying Neutrinos); while pianist Matt Ray and guitarist Pete Smith have been performing with Todd since 2000. Together, they artfully and lovingly developed each piece like an assortment of delicious dishes combined together for a cohesive feast.
