The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Sculptor Sydney Cash mounts a three month ”work-in-progress” exhibition at The Falcon in Marlboro NY, beginning February 2014.

The show will feature Cash’s new dimensional paintings and portraits in space-modulating installations. Some pieces will span the entire width of the club. Some will include the tables, integrating elements of his light sculpture to the surprise and delight of the Falcon audience!

What does this Work-in-Progress mean? It means the show is alive. It will change frequently as Cash respond to the space, the music and the experience on a weekly basis.

Sydney Cash's studios are nearby in Marlboro. With a key to the club, his work-in-progress may happen at any time, day or night. This is a very special opportunity for the artist, whose experimental ideas will be manipulated in continuing improvisation, complimenting the music being performed, and engaging an audience that wants to be thrilled with “all that jazz”.

Jay Ungar & Molly Mason Family Band, Mike & Ruthie
Singer-Songwriter, Americana. Fiddle & Guitar
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Jay and Molly are musicians who draw their repertoire & inspiration from a wide range of American musical styles: 19th-century classics, lively Appalachian, Cajun, & Celtic fiddle tunes & favorites from the golden age of country & swing, fiddle tunes, & orchestral compositions.

Millions were entranced by the music they did for Ken Burns' PBS documentary The Civil War. Their performance of the series' signature tune, Jay's haunting composition Ashokan Farewell, earned the couple international acclaim. The soundtrack won a Grammy & Ashokan Farewell was nominated for an Emmy.

Ruth Ungar & Mike Merenda have emerged as one of acoustic America’s most revered musical duos. As story-tellers, as singers, as poets & as parents (they tour with their two small children), Mike + Ruthy are heralds of an American cultural awakening that values honesty & togetherness, prefer grit to glitz, and revels in the old-fashioned telling of a story.

West Shokan, NY   See Map
GILLES MALKINE performed as a member of Tim Hardin’s band at the 1969 Woodstock Festival in Bethel, and at Carnegie Hall the same year; his career has gone pretty much downhill since that time, as evidenced by his present association. As an actor-guitarist, he co-starred off-Broadway in The Dixie Dewdrop, a fabulous musical two-person extravaganza that lasted most of a month. He's also starred as a Latin guitarist and as such was founder of Capricorn Moon, a sprightly but short-winded samba quartet that soon suffered a permanent lunar eclipse. He recorded with Hardin and others, and has logged many gigs as artist, writer, disability advocate, actor, illustrator, cartoonist, and composer.

With MIKHAIL HOROWITZ, they perform hip-hop versions of Waiting for Godot, Moby-Dick, Homer's Odyssey, and other literary classics; blues versions of works by Shakespeare, et al...They are biologically incorrect, fiscally challenged, and barely fundable.

Soñando
Latin
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
The hot, wild and joyful sounds of Soñando have earned them the reputation as the Hudson Valley's premier Latin band. Their spicy blend of music and musicians have performed in clubs, at private funtions, community festivals, benefit concerts, on radio and television, as well as the Puerto Rico Day Parade in NYC, but the band is at home wherever a dance floor can be cleared. Fueled by a fiery rhythm section and high-octane horns, Soñando plays a wide variety of Latin styles from Plena and Son to Salsa and Merengue!

"The name of the band is Spanish for "dreaming" but when the hordes come out for Soñando, they don't sleepwalk - they dance. And we're not talking a few perfunctory head-bobs or butt-wiggles, they dance until they go up in flames, like Tula's unquenchable bedroom in the Cuban lyrics..." - Woodstock Times

The FALCON

Cyro Baptista - known as the mad scientist of Brazilian percussion - wanted to form a new band to expand stylistic boundaries while working within a more nimble, small group setting. Thus was born Banquet of the Spirits, a project immortalized on the wildly acclaimed self-titled release on Tzadik, the label run by jazz iconoclast and saxophone genius John Zorn.

Born and raised in São Paulo, Baptista has been a major force in world music for three decades, touring and recording with luminaries such as Yo-Yo Ma (The Brazil Project), Herbie Hancock (Gershwin’s World), Paul Simon (Rhythm of the Saints) and Wynton Marsalis (Brazilian Carnaval) to name a few. With hypnotic percussion and multi-layered string wizardry, Banquet of the Spirits is guaranteed to tear the house down — and raise your pulse!

The members of the Peekskill-based band UNI, hail from the islands and blend the Bob Marley style with the more modern dance hall sound.

Dar Chi, the groups bass player says that "Reggae is the indigenous music. When you come here you don't want to leave your vernacular or colloquial sayings at home; that's prevalent in the music. A lot of our songs are social and reflect what's happening in the community. Some of us are Rastafarians, so there are some radical political connotations."
