Friday 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm | Matuto! "The Heights of World Music!" | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
In Brazil, Matuto is slang for Country Boy, but this NYC based group of urbanized virtuosos is emerging as one of the world’s hottest international touring acts. Recently awarded the title of “American Musical Ambassadors” by the U.S. State Department, Matuto has been hailed as "seductively cross cultural" by the Chicago Tribune, and praised by the Sun Times as "the height of world music sophistication.” As another critic recently admired, "there is without a doubt nothing else out there like it." Matuto’s songs can sway hips as easily as spark insights. Drawing on Brazil’s folkloric rhythms like forró and coco, and on deep Americana—from bluegrass to spirituals to swamp jams—Matuto uses unexpected Pan-American sonic sympathies to craft appealing, roosty, yet philosophical tales of love, self-discovery, and true peace. Wednesday 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm | Carrie Rodriguez with Luke Jacobs | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
Carrie Rodriguez came to attention a decade ago performing with singer-songwriter Chip Taylor. The Texas-born classically trained violinist/singer-songwriter delivers everything from dissonant rock fiddle solos to heartfelt ballads. Rodriguez has performed, recorded, or collaborated with many of her heroes including Lucinda Williams, John Prine, Bill Frisell, Mark O'Connor, Los Lobos, Patty Griffin, Alejandro Escovedo, Buddy Miller, and others.Jacobs is a self taught multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from a small iron mining town in northern Minnesota. He was also a founding member of the popular Minneapolis-based alt country band, Romantica, which is where Carrie first heard him perform. Jacobs’ laid back vocals, blue-collar songs, and soulful pedal steel playing have proven to be the perfect compliment to Carrie’s passion and intensity. 2013 was an adventurous year for Rodriguez and Jacobs, the duo traveled coast to coast across the US and much of Europe.

Thursday 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm | Willa McCarthy Band, Josh Stacy, Scott Milici, Doug Abramson Blues. Funk, Rock, R&B | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
Hudson Valley singer/songwriter Willa McCarthy debuted her new band at The Falcon in early September to a standing-room only crowd and everyone had such a good time, we asked her to come back for a repeat performance.McCarthy has been an active performer in the Hudson Valley for more than a decade, most notably as a member of The Chris O'Leary Band. She met acclaimed and award-winning singer/harp player Chris O’Leary a few years before he became the lead singer for Levon Helm's Barn Burners. When O’Leary launched his own band in 2008 and invited her to join, she jumped at the chance. Of McCarthy, O'Leary has said, "she's my favorite person in the world to sing with." McCarthy’s vocals are powerful and soulful and her band plays a mix of blues, funk, R&B and rock—including original and cover material—and features Josh Stacy on guitar, Scott Milici on keys, Doug Abramson on bass and Jerry Teters on drums.
