Ukuleles are small. Yet, ukulele duet Greg Doyle and Wendy Matthews play the big hits, favoring swing and vintage tunes – as well as a few things you might not expect to hear on uke. The Fleas have been playing together as a ukulele duo since late 2006, united by a common love of the music from the 20s through 50s. As the Fleas soon discovered, ukes are perfect for these cheerful, melodic tunes. The Fleas have delighted audiences in venues as varied as the Clearwater Festival, Hoot on the Hudson, Ukulele Cabaret and New York Ukulele Festival, as well as street fairs, restaurants, libraries, art openings and private parties across New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maine.

What do Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Jay McShann, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, John Hammond, the late Jimmy Witherspoon, Dr. John, Maria Muldaur, Roomful of Blues, and the Canadian band The Rockin’ Highliners all have in common? Duke Robillard. Every one of those names has shared recording studio space or stage time with a man who is a legend in the blues community.

In 2007 guitarist, bandleader, singer, songwriter, producer, session player, and a one-man cheering section for the blues, Duke received a Grammy nomination for his "Guitar Groove-a-rama" CD and was also honored with the prestigious Rhode Island Pell Award for "excellence in the arts."

Other awards over the last decade are numerous and global. BB King himself has called Duke "One of the great players."

Duke Robillard is a man in command of a full range of creative talents — unique in the blues, and rare in the music industry. A complete artist at the height of his power.

The Alex Jornov Band
Motown/R&B, Blues. Funk/Soul
The High Falls Cafe
12 Stone Dock Road (off Berme and Canal)
High Falls, NY   See Map
The Alex Jornov Band is a well-oiled rhythm and blues machine from New York's Hudson Valley.

Built around the powerful, soulful voice of Alex Jornov, the band is made up of a group of highly skilled and experienced musicians from the fertile, upstate local music scene who combine to form a funky, driving sound which gets young and old up out of their seats.

The Alex Jornov Band doesn't rehash the same, tired blues setlist that so many others are content to play. The band's versatility is immediately apparent in their live show. From old, bluesy jazz numbers by the great Nina Simone, to the fresh sound of blues-soul by the likes of Sharon Jones your crowd will hear songs they never knew they loved right along with some old favorites.

The group's ability to gracefully flow between blues, civil rights era R&B, funk/soul, and even throw in a jazz standard or two keeps the audience interested and moving to the beat all night long.

After several years putting the Funk Junkies together with some of New York's best musical talent, we can assure you they are specialists. This 14 piece band with a 5 piece horn section lays down the funk! Check them out to cure what ails you!

Trifecta plays their own brand of high energy Rock infused with Blues, Fusion and Funk, creating a genre they describe as "Alien Rock".

The band was formed in 2012, by three extremely talented young musicians, Alex Scigilio (guitar), Keith Knoppel (bass) and Tyler Galasso (drums). From their first jam session it was evident there was an undeniable chemistry between them, and they immediately knew they had something special... a musical "Trifecta". The band is a frequent performer at our Open Rock Jam and Band Showcase, and every time they take our stage the audience loves them. They write their own music and perform popular Rock covers.

With so much success happening so quickly the band says they're ready for the future and to astonish wherever they go.

Pete has a huge appreciation for all of music - from Hank to Hendrix, Duke to Dylan, Bach to Buck, Son House to Son Volt or Muddy to Miles. Steeped in electric blues from T-Bone through Stevie Ray, with a good understanding of early country blues, Pete has a deep well to draw from.

Pete's original material is eclectic to say the least, running the gamut from straight ahead Rock & Roll, Americana, Electric and Acoustic Blues, Country, Singer-songwriter, Alternative, and other influences.

In addition to being an accomplished singer/frontman and leader, Pete is a sought after sideman. Mitch Woods regularly calls him on as one of his East Coast Rocket 88’s, even taking him to Greece for a two week residency at the Half Note Jazz club in Athens in ‘08-’09. Pete was lucky enough to share the stage his idols, Hubert Sumlin, and Pinetop Perkins.

Pete has an original R&R album to his credit, “Stepping Stone” for sale through iTunes.

"Pronounced Froy-nd, which means Awesome in Austrian" - Jason Mraz

It’s in the seemingly effortless ease with which he delivers his conversational lyrics and mellifluous melodies, this natural magic that is at the heart of Tom Freund’s music. Though he’s well-schooled and widely-traveled in a variety of genres -- from heartfelt folk, to buoyant pop, to boho jazz, to straightforward rock ’n’ roll, and beyond -- Freund ultimately comes across simply as a singer-songwriter with his own singularly distinctive and engaging voice.

On the last Friday of the month from now through August, me, Studio Stu will be musically exploding at my favorite joint in the Hudson Valley, Market Market Cafe. Each month I will bring a different, unique blend of eclectic musicians together to mingle in the musically unknown. (Check back to see who'll be joining me this month) Or just show up...ya know it's gonna be entertaining.

This is one very cool joint, a bit of Brooklyn in the middle of all these trees. (there are a lot of trees up here)

So, come have a drink, some incredible, and I mean, incredible food, and I'll play my little heart out with the band du jour to soothe yer soul with some tunes that are familiar, yet, not. Come on down and I'll explain it to you...bring your mother too.
Check Out Studio Stu...
