SEXMOB Plays FELLINI !

Sexmob 17 years strong, Sexmob is a venerable New York City music institution. The band's four founding members—Steven Bernstein, Briggan Krauss, Tony Scherr and Kenny Wolleson—defy genre, instead replacing it with their own inimitable musical language. It's fitting then that for their first new album in over seven years, Sexmob would choose to re-imagine the music of Nino Rota. It was Rota's imaginative compositions that set the tone for the surrealist films of the legendary director Federico Fellini. The Italian filmmaker once said, "My films, like my life, are summed up in circus, spaghetti, sex, and cinema." And thus accordingly Sexmob dubs their latest 'Cinema, Circus & Spaghetti (Sexmob Plays Fellini: The Music Of Nino Rota).'

They dive headlong into Rota's iconic Fellini film melodies. These classic themes are the perfect foil for Sexmob's improvisational psychedelia, old world beauty and hypnotic groove.

Opening Act!
with The Kandinsky Effect, Warren Walker, Gaël Petrina, Caleb Dolister
Jazz
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Conceived on Paris’s cosmopolitan jazz scene, forged on the road in America, and informed by international currents in electronic music, The Kandinsky Effect is a jazz power trio for the 21st century. The trans-Atlantic band, based in New York City and Paris, makes its Cuneiform debut with Synesthesia, a roller-coaster ride of an album marked by fierce grooves, subtle electronic textures, intricate metrical shifts, and a commitment to empathic group interplay.

Featuring Warren Walker on saxophone and electronics, bassist Gaël Petrina, and drummer Caleb Dolister, The Kandinsky Effect explores a distinctive swath of sonic territory, inspired by similarly electronica-laced ensembles like Kneebody and Jaga Jazzist. With a long history as a cutting edge format, the saxophone, bass and drums trio is usually employed by horn players looking to explore harmonically unfettered improvisation. The Kandinsky Effect finds a different kind of freedom in the lack of a chordal instrument.

Shane Loverro
Acoustic, Singer-Songwriter
Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe
40 West Market Street
Red Hook, NY   See Map
With a solid consort of personal angst and melancholia, paired with subtle dialogues among unlikely lovers, Shane Loverro is indubitably headed for an adventurous career. Prolific in his own encapsulated nature, he finds his muse, tucks himself away, and then he does what he knows best. He writes. His record, Never This Far Down, which was recorded in SoHo and Brewster, NY was completed in April of 2012, just in time for his 24th birthday. The record displays the range of his many influences as well as the magnitude of his apparent originality. The songs are extremely personal yet applicable to anyone who simply takes the time to listen to them and absorb their brilliance. Rendering words of solitude, beauty of the past, the present, and the future. Lending one’s ears to the record is more like reading the diary of a madman

Cajun French, Traditional Folk & Jazz
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys began over twenty years ago with a reputation for excellence. Their stunningly clean and cohesive performance of Cajun French music from the backwaters of Southwest Louisiana propelled them into the world music limelight early on, and by their third release, Trace of Time, had garnered them a Grammy nomination in the worldwide field of traditional folk music, another in 2004 for Bon Reve, in 2009 for Live at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and again in 2011 for their latest release, Grand Isle.

When all that heart and all that skill focus on the revelry of a hot two-step, then turn on a dime and deliver an a cappella ballad, then play something that sounds like Howlin’ Wolf fell in lust with a Creole girl, you’ve found the most Cajun music you can find in any one spot.

Never before in Cajun music has a comparable wealth of skills been brought to the same table. You’ve found Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys.

with The SUNDOWN Band
Southern Rock

12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
The SUNDOWN Band has been performing their brand of Southern Rock since 1976. Every time the band's been reviewed, the response is the same: "You will be hard pressed to find another band that performs with the talent, passion, and intensity that these guys bring to the stage every night." (WPDH 101.5 FM).

From the beginning, SUNDOWN played all the legendary Westchester clubs like the Fore 'n Aft, Bottom's Up and The Beachmont, as well as NYC clubs like Lone Star Cafe. Many of the band's life-long fans now bring their teenage kids to experience the band's classic style; unique renditions of Southern Rock classics from bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, The Outlaws, Marshall Tucker, Molly Hatchet and more. They don't just cover the songs, they play them with heart. The highlight of their shows are the duel guitar talents of Ronnie Pauls and Steve Mitchell, which leaves audiences in awe. We can't wait.

Brooklyn-based husband-and-wife cabaret/songwriting duo David Alpher and Jennie Litt bring their signature mixture of Great American Songbook standards and their own original “pre-standards” to the Kingston Festival of the Arts. Lyricist Jennie Litt traces her influences back to the great satirists of the 1960s, Tom Lehrer and Allan Sherman. Composer David Alpher draws on his rich musical background in their songs, with a particular emphasis on jazz/blues, melody-driven ballads, and lushly imagined pastiche. The Kingston Festival of the Arts is presenting a whole summer of fun Thursdays-Sundays at the San Severia historic Belgian performance tent in midtown Kingston. Tickets $8 at the door, credit cards welcome. Food truck on site, and they'll be serving WAFFLES! Free parking in lot behind San Severia.

Croton-on-Hudson, NY   See Map
Vieux Farka Touré's latest album was recorded as an homage to his homeland. Being that his native Mali has been splintered by territorial fighting between Tuareg and Islamic rebels since January 2012, his new album, Mon Pays (My Country), is devoted to reminding the world about the beauty and culture of his homeland. The album is out on May 28, 2013 on Six Degrees Records with an extensive North American tour starting in June. ‘For me it is a statement for the world that this land is for the sons and daughters of Mali, not for Al Qaeda or any militants. This land is for peace and beauty, rich culture and tolerance. This is our heritage, what we must always fight to protect in any way that we can. For me, that means making music that reminds the world of who we are.

Whether Guy Davis is appearing on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” or nationally syndicated radio programs such as Garrison Keillor’s, “A Prairie Home Campanion”, “Mountain Stage” or David Dye’s,“World Café” Guy feels the instinctive desire to give each listener his ‘all’.

"You could call Guy Davis a musical child of Taj Mahal. But, in truth, he’s the son of Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, two of the most famous black actors of their generation. The talent apple didn’t fall far from the tree but did land in a different orchard." --Tony Peyser, Santa Monica Mirror

"Davis’ folksy and humble stage presence, combined with his humorous monologues, made one feel that this was not a concert, but rather, an impromptu performance on a front porch down in some southern swamp. Indeed, at times Davis had the audience singing, clapping and stomping their feet." --Daily Herald Tribune, Grand Prairie, Alberta
