 Rex Fowler is one-half of celebrated folk/rock duo, Aztec Two-Step. In the late 60's, as a teenager from Maine, Rex followed the song in his heart - first to Boston in 1971 where he met his musical partner Neal Shulman, then on to New York City - where his songs began to take wing.
Come be a part of an enjoyable evening with one of folk music’s most enduring yet unsung songwriters as Rex features songs from his masterful solo album “Gettysburg: Reflections on an American Life.” You can expect to hear a few cover songs from artists who came before and influenced Rex’s singing and songwriting as well.

JOHN'S BIO; ... John Bendy was born in Brooklyn, New York October 5 1980. He started playing guitar at age 10. His first gig was a school talent show at age 12.

He has shared the stage with the Bendy Pastorius Group of which he was a founding member along with his brother Mike Bendy on bass and Julius Pastorius on the drums since 2007.  Grammy award winning fiddler/composer/singer/ songwriter Lisa Gutkin founded the Downtown Celtic group, Whirligig, and is a member of the world-reknowned superstars of the klezmer world, The Klezmatics.
She's been called "one hot fiddler" by Cyndi Lauper, her lead vocal was penned "hauntingly emotional" by the L.A. times, and Pete Seeger described her song "Gonna Get Through This World," with the lyrics of Woody Guthrie, as "a piece of genius."
Prior to joining the Klezmatics, Lisa focused mostly on traditional Irish and Scottish music, playing and recording with Tommy Sands, John Whelan, Pat Kilbride, Jerry O'Sullivan, Steve Cooney, Cathie Ryan, and Ed Miller, and in the bands Whirligig and An Cré (which means the earth's clay in Irish) with John Redmond and Brendan Dolan.
Lisa will be joined by Uri Sharlin (accordion/pianist of Natalie Merchant's band) and Remy Yulzari (double bassist from France).

 The Clancy Tradition's origins are found in Ireland in the 1950s, when the Clancy family of Moy (in County Tyrone) formed a Ceili Band, playing at Irish country dances and concerts throughout Ireland. In 1960, brothers Pat, Eugene and Brendan Clancy left to tour the United States as the Irish Ramblers, playing at clubs like Gerde's Folk City and Carnegie Hall(!), and recording an album for Electra (The Patriot Game). Their musical tradition is currently being passed to the next generation with "The Clancy Tradition": Eugene Clancy on guitar & vocals, his daughter Rosemary Clancy on fiddle & mandolin, Eugen's son John Clancy on bass, Pat Clancy on piano & accordion, his daughter Liadain Clancy singing and Mike Melanophy on button accordion. We are honored that they chose the Towne Crier Cafe's stage to perform and record their live album.

Tierra Coffee Roasters will offer free live music at its newest location on Delaware Avenue on March 17 featuring guitarist/singer Aaron Civic.
The show will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the shop at 292 Delaware Ave, next door to the Spectrum Theater.
Civic has performed throughout the Capital Region for more than eight years. His genres have included fusion jazz, blues, new wave, alternative rock and Spanish flamenco.
He uses a keyboard as a synthesizer for producing bass guitar, drums, and other synth sounds, while also using a looping pedal to loop his guitar and keyboard. This combination allows him to sing and perform solos on guitar and keyboard while having the sound of a full band.
Tierra Coffee Roasters purchased the shop in early 2013 and has been making a variety of changes in menu, pricing and adding music events to draw a neighborhood crowd. The original location at 1038 Madison Avenue, near the Madison Theater, also offers live music.

 Zerena is a country/pop songwriter, singer and acoustic guitar player who has delighted crowds in NY, NJ, CT and Nashville with her story-telling melodies, delivered with a smooth, heartfelt tone the likes of Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Celine Dion, and Brad Paisley. She created "Second Sunday's at The Fieldhome", an event that brings music to the elderly and performs regularly at events and fundraisers sponsored by The Justin Veatch Fund.
Zerena has also been a guest and had her songs played at various radio programs across the US. In Nashville, she performed at The Bluebird Cafe, The Nashville Palace, and The Commodore Lounge, among other venues. She has also appeared in the Nashville TV Show "Performing Writer".
Zerena, awarded the young performer’s Best Original Song and Original Song Performance at The Hard Rock Café, Boston (2012), has performed at NY City's Symphony Space, The Apollo Theater, and opened for Bernie Williams at the White Plains Performing Arts Center.

Joshua Morris began performing classical music at an early age with his father, mother, brother and sister, he began performing around the south, and the Morris Family became well known for their beautiful Irish harmonies. Later, Joshua expanded his musical repertoire to include rock and roll, drawing on his classical and Irish background, and with his band Sinclair, released the album Stories of this Land in 2002. Joshua recorded and produced the 2004 Morris Family release Farewell to Summer.
After moving to Beacon, NY in 2008, Joshua has continued his musical ambitions, melding his voice, violin and guitar into a solo act adept in both faithful traditional tunes as well as improvised original work.
Joshua currently designs recording studios and other acoustically-sensitive spaces for Walters-Storyk Design Group in Highland, NY.

Pat Walker directs the vocal harmonies and supplies her southern charm with vocals & banjo. Missy Alexander adds her songs and vocals. Doug Mathewson on vocals, dobro, mandolin and guitar.  Slam Allen’s unique blend of soul and blues, from his time on the famous Chitlin' to international performances around the world, radiates his enthusiasm and has been shared with thousands of listeners.
As the lead singer and guitarist, in the legendary James Cotton Band, Allen says, "It's one of the highlights and privileges of my life to play with Cotton…He is one of the last living legends, and there's so much history there. Cotton was directly connected to Muddy Waters -- who was a major factor in the blues world as well as being one of my all time favorites. Playing with Cotton is such a great experience for me and there are things you can learn from him that you can't learn from any school. It's a great honor."
Music is in Allen's blood - from his father and uncles, known as the Allen Brothers Band. Allen carries on the family legacy. |
