Thursday 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm | Luis Bonilla Jazz | The Falcon 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
His success as a sideman with such greats as McCoy Tyner, Dizzy Gillespie, Lester Bowie, Tom Harrell, Freddie Hubbard, Astrud Gilberto, Willie Colon and Toshiko Akiyoshi attests not only to the skill and variety of Bonilla's talent, but also to a mind restlessly committed to exploring some of the most complex and demanding music of our time. Yet there is nothing rarefied about the Bonilla experience. He has worked as a studio musician with Tony Bennett, Marc Anthony, La India and Mary J. Blige and understands the liveliness of pop as well as the rhythmic sway and punch of Latin Jazz. Currently a member of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra under Arturo O'Farrill's direction (both 2009 Grammy winners) and Dave Douglas's latest group (Dave Douglas & Brass Ecstasy), Bonilla is one of those rare artists whose work is always expanding, taking in more and more while remaining singular and focused.

Guitarists Greg Carmichael and Miles Gilderdale celebrate a remarkable two decades plus since 1987's Red Dust and Spanish Lace established the British ensemble as an ever evolving, powerhouse force in contemporary jazz. Acoustic Alchemy's thousands of fans around the world may be feeling nostalgic, but the duo, while keeping their trademark acoustic guitar synergy front and center, is clearly committed to forging ahead. Carmichael explains the energy is the result of a natural chemistry he's developed with Gilderdale over the years since Gilderdale (formerly a backing guitarist with the band) became Carmichael's full partner after the passing of founding member Nick Webb in 1998 and the release that year of Positive Thinking.More info at the Towne Crier Cafe

Which musician did Aretha Franklin definitely NOT want missing from the line-up when she recorded her most inspired albums at the beginning of the seventies? Who provided the back-beat for Steely Dan's "Aja", and for whom have Isaac Hayes, Donny Hathaway, B.B. King, "Sweet" Lou Donaldson, Joe Cocker and Hank Crawford reserved that stool behind the drum kit? Bernard Purdie's impeccable time and mastery of backbeats and grooves are celebrated. He recorded with James Brown, King Curtis, Louis Armstrong, Gato Barbieri, Hank Crawford and Dizzy Gillespie in 1980 at the Montreux Jazz Festival. He was CTI's house drummer in the '60s and '70s, - working with Grover Washington, Jr. and George Benson. Purdie toured with Curtis and Aretha Franklin in 1970, and was Franklin's music director until 1975. He has continued to work steadily and can be heard on countless discs by Brown, Franklin, Curtis, Gillespie, and Crawford among others.

![]() Friday 8:30 pm | "SPERO PLAYS NYRO" Rock (classic) | Towne Crier Cafe 130 Route 22 Pawling, NY See Map |
Laura Nyro was the quintessential singer/songwriter/pianist -- one of the first. Her groundbreaking music crossed the genres of folk, rock and jazz. She was one of the most covered artists in the 1960s and 1970s (Eli's Coming, Stoned Soul Picnic, Wedding Bell Blues, Sweet Blindness). Her tragically premature passing in 1997 shocked her fans. Finally, in 2012 she was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. :|: In their new show, "Spero Plays Nyro," The Christine Spero Group will bring their own kind of power to Laura Nyro's music. Their arrangements with improvisation mixed with Laura's original arrangements have preserved the integrity of her music. Christine Spero has loved Laura's music from a young age when she was given "Eli and the Thirteenth Confession" by a radio DJ friend. She was inspired by it to be bold in writing, singing and playing piano. Christine was the winner of the USA Songwriting Competition in the Jazz Category.More info at the Towne Crier Cafe

Saturday 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm | Bow Thayer & Perfect Trainwreck Soulful Mountain Music | The Falcon 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
Bow made a name for himself in Boston with 7 League Boots, a rock/reggae band that shared the stage with the likes of Fugazi, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Pearl Jam. In the Green Mountains of Vermont, he explored the Delta Blues playing slide guitar for the original Elbow and began a relationship with the banjo—both in the bluegrass group, The Benders, and on his own—that continues to this day.Comprised of a failed painter, some lousy carpenters, and a piano tuner, these acclaimed artists cultivate progressive, soulful mountain music in the hills of Vermont with an electric banjo, various other string instruments, used parts found in drums, and a keen eye for the human condition. Having played with luminaries Levon Helm, John Hiatt, Booker T, and Ringo Starr, the band has seen its fair share of travel across these United States of America and the World at large and plan to do more while supporting their records of facts, analogies and metaphors.

![]() Sunday 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm | Margaret Bernstein Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic | Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe 40 West Market Street Red Hook, NY See Map |
| New York City born Margaret Bernstein is an award winning singer-songwriter, composer and flutist with a unique voice, dynamic lyrics, and a positive and compelling message. Unlike many other songwriters of the pop-rock genre, Margaret is a classically trained musician who is an accomplished instrumental performer as well as a composer. Her musical compositions, which include elements from a diverse spectrum of styles and genres, have been inspired in part by her personal experiences and travels, which include four pilgrimages to India. Her live performances are a testament to Margaret’s amazing versatility, as she quickly segues from playing a Bach Partita on her flute to passionately playing the piano on an upbeat pop song. What makes Margaret stand out, however, is not only her eclectic and interesting background and level of accomplishment as a musician, but also her ability to communicate honestly and personally with her audience at heart level through her songs and music. | ||

Sunday 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm | The Vinnie Zummo Trio featuring Janice Zummo, Cameron Brown, Ray Marchica , Bill Stuart | The Falcon 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
The Vinnie Zummo Trio is bop based but highly eclectic. At their Falcon performance expect the show to go from breakneck fusion to hard bop, heartbreaking ballads, spacy blues, Zydeco and bluegrass with many stops in between. His approach to playing jazz guitar is unique and languid, with phrasing more akin to a sax than a guitar. Janice Zummo, long popular on the NYC session scene, is an amazing interpretive singer. At a recent SRO gig at The Bitter End with the trio, she brought audiences to tears with her unique phrasing and depth. Cameron Brown and Ray Marchica are two of the elite of the New York jazz community. With credits between them that range from Barbara Streisand to Chet Baker you would be hard pressed to find a more swinging rythm section. Along with Janice & Vinnie the band has become as tight as can be with everyone practically breathing together. Percussionist Bill Stuart joins the band for several songs as well.
Sunday 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm | Opening Act ! with Dario & The Clear, Dario Saraceno, Jeff Miller Singer-Songwriter | The Falcon 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
Singer-songwriter Dario Saraceno, from Newburgh NY, received a bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music in 1988, and teaches guitar, mandolin, and bass. After years of performing in clubs around the Northeast, he began concentrating on original songs. “Rick Witkowski from Studio L in Weirton, WV had faith in me, my songs and my vocals,” Saraceno says. “When he began dancing behind the mixing board, I knew something good was happening.” Saraceno is now working on his third CD with his band, Dario and the Clear. “Performing songs that mean something to you drives you harder,” he says. “It gives you a real sense of purpose.” “At the last minute, I was asked to open for Warren Zevon at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY, in 1998,” says Saraceno. This gave me the chance to perform the songs as they were originally written. It was a magical night, because the songs went over well stripped down, and because I got to spend time with Warren. Such a great songwriter.”

![]() Sunday 7:30 pm | JOHN GORKA Singer-Songwriter | Towne Crier Cafe 130 Route 22 Pawling, NY See Map |
John Gorka's soulful, rich, baritone voice mirrors his unique songwriting that has been championed by many, including Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Griffith, Mary Black and Maura O'Connell. His lyrics can be whimsically funny or deliver a powerful image with understated clarity and acute perceptiveness. His albums have been praised by the New York Times, Rolling Stone, and many other publications. It's always a pleasure to present John, one of folk's finest songwriter-performers. "Listening to John Gorka sing, one can get goosebumps all over. There are many reasons fresh lyrics, a stunning emotional baritone voice, his twisted humor but to focus on one limits the experience." -New York TimesMore info at the Towne Crier Cafe
