Larry Kolker
Singer-Songwriter
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Larry Kolker's songs emerge from American roots music but have a postmodern edge. Crossing folk, blues, pop, rock, soul, and jam-band, harmonized by his distinctive voice, his music has been called "urban country east-coast white-boy blues". A versatile guitar player and in demand on the blues harp, Larry has performed throughout the Northeast, the 2012 Montauk Music Festival, the Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg, and the Bob Dylan Festival at the Warwick Valley Winery. He is active in the Tribes Hill musical community.

Larry's new 10-song CD, Awful Smart Man, was released in July 2012. He and Fred Gillen Jr. co-produced the album at Woody's House studio. The album reflects a journey of love, agony, discovery, acceptance and joy. It is receiving regular play on WIOX 91.3 FM.

Musical Theater, Comedic, and Cabaret. Improvisation
Underground at Proctors
432 State Street
Schenectady, NY   See Map
MOPCO brings its unique brand of improv to Proctors -- Friday nights at 8:00pm.

Created by Kat Koppett in association with Freestyle Repertory Theatre in New York, Spontaneous Broadway is a virtouso evening of musical improv.

The audience submits titles of "songs that have never been written". In a fictional "backer's audition", these titles inspire improvised songs in act one. In act two, the audience's favorite song serves as the basis of an entire (45 minute) Broadway musical, complete with costumes and set.

The format received a rave review from The New York Times when it premiered in New York in 1995. You ain’t seen nuttin’ like it, folks!

Music on another level...
with Drew Bordeaux
Acoustic, Rock (modern)
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Drew Bordeaux has many fans. 12 Grapes is one of his biggest.

Whether playing solo with an acoustic guitar or screaming Hendrix-style riffs on a violin, Drew never fails to captivate and entertain an audience. His original tunes weave classic Rock and Blues with today's Pop and Alternative styles to create music that is rich, moving, and relentlessly catchy.

NY music reviewer Kevin Johnston wrote, "His guitar work is the real deal... A lot of players have forgotten what the rock solo is for, but Drew knows and he uses it to take the music to a new level. And just to make sure you stay interested, he switches to electric violin."

Despite all of his achievements, Drew is first and foremost a songwriter. He has composed dozens of songs performed at an impressive list of venues. Drew's first EP, "Live Your Way", has deeply personal lyrics and catchy melodies.

Mardi Gras Celebration with the Tin Pan Band
Jazz
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Tin Pan connotes a world of jazz, blues and American popular song. The band has created a rabid following by playing music that resonates powerfully because its intention is pure - to make people dance, smile and conjure with the spirit of music itself. On their new album, Hound's Tooth, the band has perfected their sonic vision - effortless, wondrous and festive, feeling much like, as the band describes themselves, Ray Charles and Tom Waits at a Bourbon Street Parade. With Jesse Selengut on trumpet, lead vocals and compositions, Clifton Hyde on guitar and hollerin', Stefan Zeniuk on reeds and boy soprano vocals, and Peter "Baby Hands" Maness on bass and some singin', Tin Pan evokes everything from Fats Waller and Louis Armstrong to Irving Berlin and Hoagy Carmichael. The Tin Pan Band was founded in 2006 by Selengut, a long time New York based musician, and the curator of the Williamsburg Jazz Festival.

Joy Kills Sorrow

Common Ground Folk Series @ Lewisboro Library
15 Main Street
South Salem, NY   See Map
Joy Kills Sorrow’s sound is born from the best of two worlds. They start with a base of time-honored timbres and techniques, yet fashion original songs and arrangements that reflect a love of indie-rock and new folk. While the former has made Joy Kills Sorrow proven favorites with the bluegrass circuit, their emphasis on writing arrangements transcending narrow genres allows them to reach wider audiences. Emma Beaton‘s haunting vocals and the ensemble’s rootsy variation on Americana is just as apt to appeal to fans of Mumford & Sons and Fleet Foxes as committed Stanley Brothers enthusiasts.

Jeffery Broussard was a leading member in Zydeco Force, an influential band at the forefront of the nouveau zydeco movement. His accordion and vocals defined this new style of Creole music, incorporating the soulful sounds of R&B into contemporary zydeco music and dance. The son of esteemed accordionist Delton Broussard, young Jeffery began his musical journey on the drums in his father’s legendary band, the Lawtell Playboys, who were themselves innovators, adding some R&B and a funkiness to this traditional roots music. During this time, Jeffery was exposed to some of the great Creole fiddle players, including the king of the zydeco fiddle, Calvin Carriere. He has retained those precious melodies and songs he heard at home, at social gatherings and on the bandstand. And with the creation of the Creole Cowboys, and as one of Louisiana’s newest Creole fiddle players, he captures the essence of this rich musical heritage.

With a solid consort of personal angst and melancholia, paired with subtle dialogues among unlikely lovers, Shane Loverro is indubitably headed for an adventurous career. Prolific in his own encapsulated nature, he finds his muse, tucks himself away, and then he does what he knows best. He writes. The record, Never This Far Down, which was recorded in SoHo and Brewster, NY was completed in April of 2012, just in time for his 24th birthday. The record displays the range of his many influences as well as the magnitude of his apparent originality. The songs are extremely personal yet applicable to anyone who simply takes the time to listen to them and absorb their brilliance. Rendering words of solitude, beauty of the past, the present, and the future. Lending one’s ears to the record is more like reading the diary of a madman - written by his psychologist.
