Thursday 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm | SPLIT BILL !! with Willa McCarthy Blues | The Falcon 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
McCarthy got her start in blues music in 1996, when math professor Ben Lotto, Vassar’s Dean of Freshmen, invited her to a local blues jam. There another math professor, Peter Pappas, was playing guitar. In a word, McCarthy—a singer—was hooked. She started at the bottom of the blues totem pole and worked her way up the ranks of the Hudson Valley blues scene. McCarthy had thought of starting her own band, the Hudson Valley Blues Collective, but when the Chris O’Leary Band launched in 2008 and members invited her to join the then-six-member band (McCarthy makes seven), she jumped at the chance. Lately, McCarthy and the Chris O’Leary Band have been busy—as usual—playing regular gigs throughout the mid-Hudson Valley. The band is also preparing for a European tour. | ||
