Jazz

Violist and vocalist Alva Anderson moves easily between musical genres, playing with the Harlem Symphony, Allegro Chamber Ensemble or Sphinx Symphony Orchestra to Jazz in July in Amherst, MA, the LGC Jazz Festival in Brooklyn, and the Saratoga Jazz Festival in Saratoga, NY.

Alva was on tour in Europe with a chamber music ensemble, when late one night at a jam session in a jazz club in Switzerland, a friend invited her to the microphone to sing. It was then that she found what she calls her second voice; her viola being her first.

Back in the States Alva frequented jam sessions throughout NYC; attended vocal and instrumental workshops; and has performed, both as violist and vocalist, with Carmen MacRea, Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Beres Hammond, Buju Banton, Makanda Ken McIntyre, Grammy award winner Jimmy Seigler, and Anthony Braxton, among others.

Alva's quartet includes bassist extraordinaire, Kim Clarke, Tim Siciliano on guitar, and Luciano Padmore on drums. Must hear!

MAZZ@TheFalcon Presents
with Jason Casterlin & The Tall Boys
Americana, Country, and Roots Music. Rock
The Falcon
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Jason’s band, The Tall Boys, are a throwback to the heyday of Yoakam’s Babylonian Cowboys – a 5-piece outfit that can make you holler or make you weep from one track to the next. Guitars, pedal steel, keys, drums and bass complement Jason’s lyrics and voice the way a hand-picked band should. Jason has been a mainstay on the Hudson Valley live music scene for over decade – first in one of the region’s most beloved cover bands, Maria’s Basement, and then as a founding member of the alt.country band, The Woodcocks. With his solo career taking off fast, Jason has already shared the stage with the likes of James Otto, Jimmy Wayne, Easton Corbin, Billy Currington, Blackberry Smoke, Ryan Bingham, to name a few. Old Stone Church is inspired by Jason’s life with his wife, their golden retriever, and their home overlooking the Shawangunk Ridge – a setting as suitable as any for a Yankee making country and roots music.
