Henry Purcell's "King Arthur"
with Kairos: A Consort of Singers
Classical/Opera
Christ Episcopal Church
20 Carroll Street
Poughkeepsie, NY   See Map
Kairos: A Consort of Singers, under the direction of Edward Lundergan, presents a concert version of English Baroque composer Henry Purcell's 1691 semi-opera King Arthur, with full orchestra. This whimsical tale centers around Arthur's endeavors to rescue his fiancée, the blind Cornish princess Emmeline, who has been abducted by his arch-enemy, the Saxon king Oswald of Kent. It is a delightful and humorous work, and contains some of Purcell's most lyrical music, much of it inspired by French dance rhythms and adventurous (for the day) harmonies.

As was common in English semi-opera during the Baroque era, there were spoken as well as sung parts, and the performance will also feature a delightful narration of the story by professional actor and singer David Rodriguez.

The concert will also be performed on Sunday, November 6 at 4PM at Holy Cross Monastery, Route 9W, West Park, NY.

Rob Morsberger is a singer-songwriter and classically-trained composer. His latest album, The Chronicle of A Literal Man, received raves in USA Today, The Boston Globe and Herald, and more. Writing in the Herald, renowned rock critic Kevin Convey stated that the "album is the kind of hyperliterate, pop-inflected singer-songwriter outing that went out of style when Warren Zevon died." Rob has played with My Morning Jacket, Crash Test Dummies, Marshall Crenshaw, Jules Shear, Loudon Wainwright III, Dan Zanes, and The Roches. He is composer for the award-winning PBS series NOVAscienceNOW, now in its 5th season.

Nashville-based Amelia White is hard-rocking, folkin-alt-art country whose sinewy voice and lean guitar produces simply beautiful pop-rock . "Ebullient choruses and complicated moods. Literate verse, ravaged guitars, and a level of composition and craftsmanship that brings to mind Lucinda Williams, Tom Petty, and Ryan Adams." Joan Anderman-Boston Globe

MOPCO brings its unique brand of improv to Proctors -- Friday nights at 8:00pm.

Created by Kat Koppett in association with Freestyle Repertory Theatre in New York, Spontaneous Broadway is a virtouso evening of musical improv.

The audience submits titles of "songs that have never been written". In a fictional "backer's audition", these titles inspire improvised songs in act one. In act two, the audience's favorite song serves as the basis of an entire (45 minute) Broadway musical, complete with costumes and set.

The format received a rave review from The New York Times when it premiered in New York in 1995. You ain’t seen nuttin’ like it, folks!

They have described in the folk song magazine Sing Out!, as “a refreshing reminder of the halcyon days of American folk music” and praised their music as “an enthusiastic testament to the sheer joy of singing and playing music.” Whatever the source of a song, it is recast in distinctive arrangements with rich three and four part harmonies. The voices in the band differ greatly in range and color; combined, they create a unique and resonant blend that defines the Boomers’ sound. This harmonic blend is coupled to impressive instrumental

When musicians you admire tell you how highly they regard a guitarist's skills, you take notice. That's how it is with Dave Fields. He's a musician's musician.

"New York Boss Guitar Man" Dave Fields is a "genre-busting" Blues guitarist and virtuoso whose performances are always electrifying, awe-inspiring and intensely passionate. Dave Rubin from Guitar Edge Magazine writes, "Dave rocks hard, rolls with rollicking R&B and swings like a zoot-suited jive cat." Bottom line: Dave will get you rockin' and rollin' with the Blues.

Dave Fields has worked with many musical legends including Aretha Franklin, Lenny Kravitz, Sean Lennon, The Drifters and Tommy James. Dave has three CD's to his credit and performs many originals that keeps his audience dancing all night long. C'mon y'all... Let's Have a Ball!

Gigantic Inflation of the Ego....... If you believe the best rock comes from the UK but you don't know Spiv—a four-piece, Anglo-American, Woodstock-based band known for its complex, trippy tunes—this CD's for you. However, if you're in the know on Spiv, take heed—this CD's danceable, drivable, dreamable. .. Spiv (English slang for a man who lives by his wits) updates '80s Brit rock with energetic, multilayered songs. Listen for traces of Bowie, Gang of Four, Joy Division, Psychedelic Furs, Pink Floyd, even Gong. Spiv certainly maintains an air of mystery—the CD merely lists 10 tracks and its appearances are underground. Nonetheless, Spiv's wide following appreciates its tightly woven threads of two guitars—one spacey, psychedelic; the other relentless, urgent—and lyrics that are detached, edgy, and pointed. .. In Spiv's debut CD, leader Sham Morris and second vocalist John Gullo deliver wry observations on women ("Hillary's Psychosis," "Poor Little Baby," "Simone") and s
