![]() ![]() Saturday 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm | Blues On The Mountain with Big Joe Fitz, Eden Brent Blues | Mohonk Mountain House Mountain Rest Road New Paltz, NY See Map |
Critics laud her "Bessie Smith meets Diana Krall meets Janis Joplin" attitude, compare her to jazz/pop dynamos Norah Jones and Sarah Vaughn, and wax effusively about her "whiskey-smoke" voice, which serves as a constant reminder that Greenville, nestled into a bend of the Mississippi River, is located a few hundred miles north of New Orleans. Whether booked as a solo artist or bandleader, Brent's performance is fresh and spontaneous, often filled with audience requests and participation. Her unshakable talent and her carefree demeanor have taken her across the country and around the world, Since launching her career, she's won the Blues Foundation's 2006 International Blues Challenge, and The Blues Music Association's Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of The Year Award. ![]() ![]() Saturday 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm | Maggie Seligman Acoustic, Folk/Traditional, and Americana | Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe 40 West Market Street Red Hook, NY See Map |
My primary instrument is my voice, and my guitar embellishes, accompanies, and decorates it. My sound and style are my own. Exposure to music and vocal styles of all types, ranging from standards to jazz to folk/traditional to blues, and to the music of Great Britain, the Appalachian Mountains of Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina, have influenced my sound and led me to describe my music as "eclectic acoustic." I have opened for Christine Lavin and Dave Cousins and performed in Showcases and the Open Mic Finals at the Towne Crier Cafe in Pawling, NY, and appeared in venues in the Hudson Valley and Southwestern CT. I perform a good mix of songs, including my own compositions, covers, and traditional music. I like to tell the stories of the traditional songs I sing and might focus on the song's provenance, themes, imagery, history, depiction of characters, etc. Listeners tell me that they enjoy learning about this traditional music. | ||
