In life I bend the truth to be nice, get along with people and fit into society. In music I write about all of the things I would never say in the moment; then I sing about them in public. I am based in New Jersey and play solo and with a band. My songs have fine, often ironic stories behind them, and I share them all. I encourage my audience to be involved in my shows, and will often invite an audience member on stage to play my porch bass or porch board. My strongest influences are the Pretenders, Joni Mitchell, Lucy Kaplansky, Liz Phair and U2. I play regularly at Crossroads in Garwood NJ, Rockin Joes in Westfield NJ, and various venues in NYC including The National Underground. I recently opened for Pat Dinizio of The Smithereens at Crossroads in NJ and performed as a part of the WFMU Seven Second Delay show during their record breaking 60 artists in 60 minutes at The Upright Citizen's Brigade in NYC.

Hyde Park Brewing Company
Ruote 9
Hyde Park, NY   See Map
Showcase performance for the area's newest trio. S W Ross, Karl Allweier and Steve Marnell play while you dance around and your friends stand there and drink.

Original materials and yes, covers. But not just any covers. Stuff by the best song writers from five decades. Rock, pop, R&B and even TV themes. These guys play some of the songs you had on LP's and 45's and forgot.

They sing in tune, play in time, like harmony, solo smart (without too much wanking). And they're good players. Plus, they'll usually draw a decent crowd of people who like to rock out.

with Shane Murphy
Acoustic

from a Chronogram Album Review 11/10:

As Loose Strife / Tight Grief spools out, stylistic vocal nods abound; Tim Buckley’s elastic, acrobatic croon; Antony Hegarty’s dramatic quaver; Scott Walker’s burnished baritone. Deft acoustic guitar work provides the bedrock throughout, with occasional atmospheric background brushstrokes of tabla, melodica, soft piano, and keening electric guitar. Antecedents aplenty, but the vision and delivery are idiosyncratic and completely Murphy’s own; a welcome, refreshingly original take on the unvanquished troubadour. Peekskill, NY   See Map
"A pianist with a crystalline touch, but a penchant for avant gardism" (New York Times)

Of Armenian parentage, pianist/composer Armen Donelian's masterful playing is rooted in Classical, Jazz and Middle Eastern studies and characterized by a boundless source of creative ideas. Armen has performed in 23 countries as a featured solo pianist, leader of his own quintet and trio, and with Jazz legends including Sonny Rollins, Chet Baker, Paquito D'Rivera, Mongo Santamaria and Billy Harper.

Without force or persuasion, Donelian invites listeners to join him in personal and reflective explorations. But according to one critic, "don't underestimate his ability to swing hard and throw punches."

Clark, professor of bass at Berklee College of Music, and Schuller, son of noted composer Gunther Schuller and a New York City-based bandleader, have been Donelian's band-mates for six years. The Trio's repertoire includes originals and standards from their recent CD, Oasis.

The police composite sketch is one of the most crucial investigative tools in law enforcement and is developed during a composite session-an intense display of communication and art in which the words of a victim are transformed into the features of a suspect.

Stephen Mancusi was the senior forensic artist for the New York City Police Department for 25 years. He has been featured in many publications including the New York Times and London Sunday Telegraph. Stephen has appeared on numerous television programs including the History Channel's MysteryQuest, ABC's 20/20, New York Views, Discovery Channel, Pro 7 German Television, and National Geographic. His artwork has also been exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This presentation will help demystify this intriguing science as well as introduce the audience to forensic art as an art form.

Stephen Mancusi is the author of the recently released book "The Police Composite Sketch" published by Humana Press.

David Stone: The Johnny Cash Experience is a broadway-quality show that plays predominantly to a new generation of fans too young to have known the real thing in its zenith.

David Stone: The Johnny Cash Experience is the only Johnny Cash Tribute ever to be selected by the State of California (even over Johnny's original band) to play the 40th anniversary commemoritive concert at San Quentin State Prison on February 24, 2009, celebrating the historic performance of Johnny Cash at the facility in 1969.

The mission of David Stone: The Johnny Cash Experience is simple: to be an accurate, note-for-note, authentic representation of The Johnny Cash Show with dignity, and not cheap "impersonation."

David Stone: The Johnny Cash Experience takes the audience through the late country legend's career, covering Early Johnny Cash, Johnny Cash & June Carter, and the Folsom Prison Concert Era.

David Stone is a Philadelphia born singer/songwriter who has been singing the songs of Johnny Cash nearly all of his life. Inspired by the Man In Black’s ABC television show as a young boy, Stone learned to play guitar and sing in Cash’s unique style. He started the show 4 years ago, to an enthusiastic response from fans all over the East Coast.

Stone's rendition of Johnny Cash observes a strict authenticity and dignity in conveying the music that made Johnny Cash an icon of American Country. Those who see his performance will know what it must have been like to see the real Johnny Cash in concert -- his voice, mannerisms, and his band are wholly true to the legend. Stone also writes songs in the same style of the late Johnny Cash.
