Currently in our 63rd season, the Rhinebeck Choral Club is actively seeking new members in all of our vocal sections for the 2008 Spring Concert season! Our spring program will highlight musical theater in America. The repertoire will feature some of the most familiar and beloved songs representing nearly a century of Broadway shows. Selections will range from powerhouse pieces from Wicked, Sweeney Todd, and Les Mis to sensitive pieces from The Fantasticks, A Chorus Line, and Oklahoma. Members do not need to have any previous musical background or experience, and music reading skills are not required. Open Rehearsals are scheduled for Wednesday, January 9 and/or 16 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY. After rehearsal, a brief and painless audition is held--auditionees will be tested for their vocal range, and will sing a brief section of a familiar song, alone and with others from their voice part.

Uncommon Ground, Mike BaglioneBodles Opera House
39 Main Street
Chester, NY   See Map
"Uncommon Ground", is a hot alternative bluegrass group from New York's Hudson Valley that is on a mission to flex the boundaries of traditional music. They're the complete package ... great vocals, fiery instrumental abilities and a rapidly growing repertoire of well-crafted tunes. "Uncommon Ground" is schooled in tradition yet is able to stretch out in inspired improvisation. In short, "Uncommon Ground" is a fresh addition to the bluegrass - make that, the music - scene ... Their performances are not to be missed!

On "Uncommon Ground's" musical landscape, rock energy coexists peacefully with mountain soul. Traditional melodies combine with driving rhythms and inspired solos intermingle with heavenly vocals. Their music bears an unmistakable stamp of originality without losing the authenticity of the original sources.

"Uncommon Ground" draws on the talents of Mike Kobetitsch, and Wayne Fugate, both long-time veterans of the Bluegrass scene who have performed with "Out to Lunch", Grammy award winner, Lisa Gutkin, and a host of other noteworthy bands and musical luminaries, exciting new vocalist Sara Della Posta and the ever amazing Rachel Handman and Phil Helm, two principles in the Hudson Valley Philharmonic whose technical precision, fertile inventiveness, surprising touches and mastery of the Bluegrass genre, give the band a distinctive, signature voice.

Making Their Debut at "Bodles Opera House" ...

“Uncommon Ground”, is a hot alternative bluegrass group that is on a mission to flex the boundaries of traditional music. They possess razor-sharp vocals, fiery instrumental abilities and a rapidly growing repertoire of well-crafted tunes. “Uncommon Ground” is schooled in tradition yet is able to stretch out in inspired improvisation. In short, “Uncommon Ground” is as fresh an addition to the bluegrass—make that, the music—scene as has come along in many a year.

“Uncommon Ground” draws on the talents of Michael Kobetitsch, Sara Della Posta and Wayne Fugate, all long-time veterans of the Bluegrass scene who have performed with a host of musical luminaries, along with Rachel Handman and Phil Helm, two principles in the Hudson Valley Philharmonic whose technical precision, fertile inventiveness, surprising touches and mastery of the Bluegrass genre, give the band a distinctive, signature voice.

RICHARD SHINDELL
Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
An expatriate New Yorker, now living in Argentina, Richard Shindell's albums & shows have been revered by critics and fans alike. His formative experiences range from enrichment at Union Theological Seminary to life in a Zen Buddhist monastery; from playing for coins in Paris to a more recent tour with Joan Baez.

Innovative, original and occasionally spiritual, Shindell’s songwriting is truly eclectic, ranging from lighthearted ballads & adulterous love songs to dirges & diatribes that skillfully skewer politics, prejudice, war and religion. Passionate and profound, his songs are often veritable novellas framed in haunting acoustic melodies, but he is also capable of writing tunes that are simply clever & amusing.

The NY Times, Village Voice, Billboard, Dirty Linen and Sing Out gush with admiration for the range and power of his music. "Occasionally an artist makes even skeptics think, 'OK, maybe he is the best.' Richard Shindell achieved this..." - New York Times
