JOHN GORKA, with special guest ERIK BALKEY
Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
JOHN GORKA's soulful, rich, baritone voice mirrors his unique songwriting that has been championed by many, including Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Griffith, Mary Black and Maura O'Connell. His lyrics can be whimsically funny or deliver a powerful image with understated clarity and acute perceptiveness. His albums have been praised by the New York Times, Rolling Stone, and many other publications. It's always a pleasure to present John, one of folk's finest songwriter-performers.

"Listening to John Gorka sing, one can get goosebumps all over. There are many reasons -- fresh lyrics, a stunning emotional baritone voice, his twisted humor -- but to focus on one limits the experience." - New York Times

ENTER THE HAGGIS
Celtic, Rock (classic), and Bluegrass
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
There aren't many groups in North America who could lay claim to possibly 18 different genres of music (including celtic, rock, bluegrass, latin...), but Toronto's ENTER THE HAGGIS actually pulls it all off as if to own everything.

Enter The Haggis' live show is a musical feast- viscerally dynamic, emotionally uplifting and intellectually stimulating. The band's oeuvre darts effortlessly from the trad strains of, say, The Chieftains & the Pogues to the frenetic pop of early Elvis Costello and even to the Latin-tinged spirit of the Buena Vista Social Club and beyond, complete with Lewington's deftly guitar playing, the reeling of Brian Buchanan's flawless fiddle, the diverse rhythmic machinations of bassist Mark Abraham and drummer James Campbell, and Downie's transporting pipes ...not to mention the near-perfect vocal harmonies.

Rhinebeck, NY   See Map
Currently in our 63rd season, the Rhinebeck Choral Club is actively seeking new members in all of our vocal sections for the 2008 Spring Concert season! Our spring program will highlight musical theater in America. The repertoire will feature some of the most familiar and beloved songs representing nearly a century of Broadway shows. Selections will range from powerhouse pieces from Wicked, Sweeney Todd, and Les Mis to sensitive pieces from The Fantasticks, A Chorus Line, and Oklahoma. Members do not need to have any previous musical background or experience, and music reading skills are not required. Open Rehearsals are scheduled for Wednesday, January 9 and/or 16 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY. After rehearsal, a brief and painless audition is held--auditionees will be tested for their vocal range, and will sing a brief section of a familiar song, alone and with others from their voice part.
