Rachelle Garniez was born into a musical family in New York City and has been devoted to music ever since. She began playing the accordion in 1986, and her explorations have taken her from playing on the subway platforms and in the clubs of New York to jamming with gypsies in Spain and performing at Carnival in Venice. Her compositions reflect influences ranging from the Blues, Continental and Klezmer to Latin Jazz and Country/Western. Billboard Magazine called her a “diva with a difference”, and San Francisco’s Bay Area Reporter described her as “wistful, sardonic, sentimental and wry.” Rachelle will be accompanied by Dave Hofstra on bass and tuba. Hofstra has played, recorded extensively in jazz, rock, blues, klezmer, and new music. He has performed with Marshall Crenshaw, John Zorn, Wayne Horvitz, Robin Holcomb, Bill Frisell, Toshi Reagon, Luka Bloom, Casselberry & DuPre, The Klezmatics, and many others.

In the past quarter-century, STEVE FORBERT has built a deeply personal body of work that's won him a reputation for clear-eyed insight and plainspoken eloquence. In the process, he's evolved from the wide-eyed young troubadour of his early classics Alive On Arrival and Jackrabbit Slim (which featured his hit single ROMEO'S TUNE) to the mature, bittersweet outlook of his more recent work, which surveys darker territory with hard-won empathy and deeply-ingrained rock 'n' roll soul. "...his mature work abounds with the truth and authenticity of the best American writers." - Mike Butler, The Metro

OD's Presents Great Power Rock!
with Roger Z and the Zygotes
Rock (classic), Blues, and Motown/R&B
O'Donoghue's of Nyack
66 Main St.
Nyack, NY   See Map
ROGER Z fronts a power rock trio that aims to please, playing classic rock, blues, reggae and R&B hits on demand. One of the few bands that passes out a songlist, they produce energy-filled takes on well known tunes a in style reminiscent of such threesomes as Cream, and George Thorogood & The Destroyers.

Roger puts a lot of sweat equity into his music; as a columnist for MORE SUGAR, the Hudson Valley’s monthly music news, he keeps on top of the local and national rock scene, and also supports the local industry through his popular music blog, theworkingmusician.com. He brings this knowledge to his own performances, using his considerable experience playing in the pub scene and a congenial stage presence to connect with his audience.

Thanks to HVM for allowing us to list Roger Z's appearance at OD's ... And remember, there's no cover charge!

Unitarian Fellowship
Sawkill Road
Kingston, NY   See Map
Possibly for the first time ever, over 30 notable regional folk singers will be jamming together in one place this week. A Hootenanny at the Unitarian Fellowship on Sawkill Road is a kick-off concert that’s the initial step in establishing Heritage Folk Music, an organization whose mission is to produce and promote historic and regional folk music.

“With the Catskill and Hudson Valley Regions rooted in folk music, it’s no surprise that so many great musicians are coming out to support this project.” said Bob Lusk, concert organizer. “We are using this Hootenanny to bring back the regional folk traditions to the people from whence they came.”

According to Lusk, the event will include notable musicians including Bob Horan, Peggy Atwood, Denise Jordan Finley, Rick Nestler, Elly Winninger, and Cecilia St. King, among others.

Lusk hopes that the organization will also serve as clearinghouse and resource for educators,

SARAH LEE GUTHRIE & JOHNNY IRION, with special guest GILLEN & TURK
Acoustic, Singer-Songwriter
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
Authentic...Timeless...Harmonious...Exhilarating... Any or all of these adjectives could describe the folk-rock sound created by SARAH LEE GUTHRIE & JOHNNY IRION. The musical richness and psychological depth of their initial collaboration, the fittingly titled Exploration, is irrefutable proof that the disarming granddaughter of Woody / daughter of Arlo and the prodigious South Carolinian quite naturally bring out the best in each other.

The news is finally out: FRED GILLEN Jr & MATT TURK are twisting their talent together into something new and exciting. Harmonies abound, along with singing that's tough, sincere and full of heart & soul. Gillen & Turk present both their acoustic and electric repertoire in a fashion that bends toward the recognizable folk-rock genre without losing any respective idiosyncrasies. Fans of each of these artists know how much they mean what they sing. Together, Gillen & Turk mean that much more.

Carrying On The “Night Before Thanksgiving” Tradition

A Warwick native, John has been studying the music of the Hudson Valley his whole life, and even though the learning curve is still growing and moving, the man has found his niche. He was astute at an early age and found the object of his desire, The Blues and found the teacher of a lifetime, the incredible Bill Perry, a resident of Chester, the Hudson Valley and the world of the Blues.

This night is one that has belonged to the Bill Perry Blues Band for 10+ years, and John and his band are the only ones who can fill those shoes. The baton has been passed, Carry On My Blues-Ward Son, Make Bill proud!

Special Guest: Jimmy Vivino – perhaps best known as a member of The Max Weinberg 7, the house band on the television show Late Night with Conan O'Brien (NBC), He also is the younger brother of longtime New Jersey TV Host Floyd Vivino AKA Uncle Floyd.

Richie Havens is gifted with one of the most recognizable voices in popular music. His fiery, poignant, always soulful singing style has remained unique and ageless since he first emerged from the Greenwich Village folk scene in the early 1960's. For four decades, Havens has used his music to convey messages of brotherhood and personal freedom.

CARLOLINE DOCTROW has one of those pure, clear voices that is captivating no matter what she sings, yet she says "The more records I make, the more of the dirt I leave in." The daughter of world-renowned author E L Doctorow (Ragtime, Billy Bathgate, etc), she has been a fixture on Long Island's East End music scene for more than two decades.
