Saturday 8:30 pm | Modern Man, Patricia Mazo Comedic | Bodles Opera House 39 Main Street Chester, NY See Map |
Filling the void between The Three Tenors and The Three Stooges ...With the release of their third CD, Assisted Living, the somewhat musical group known as MODERN MAN continues its assault on the out-moded idea that only those persons not yet manifesting symptoms of senile dementia should perform in public. If the sight of three seniors attempting a hip-hop song ("Assisted Living") or transparently trying to get a fatwa issued on themselves for the sake of notoriety ("Abdul, The Reluctant Martyr") doesn't bring up your lunch, you may well be Navy Seal material. Just to save the terrorists the trouble, MODERN MAN is: DAVID BUSKIN - Singer, songwriter, performer, author, playwright, jingle composer ( Clio Award ), girls' basketball coach - it's amazing how many things one person can try to avoid honest work. Some of the artists who have recorded his songs: Astrud Gilberto, Judy Collins, Peter, Paul & Mary, Johnny Mathis, Tom Rush, Roberta Flack, Dixie Carter and Tracy Nelson ROB CARLSON - Like Buskin a Brown graduate ( it was easier to get in then ), Rob Carlson has pretty much thrown away a decent education to do stuff like this. Also a performing and recording veteran, for years he was a regular contributor to The American Comedy Network, a national radio comedy syndicator, where his barbed vignettes were sung by his alter ego "Ramblin' Bob" ( "Sounds like Dylan but makes sense." ). GEORGE WURZBACH - Frequent third member of the group when visiting this galaxy. Graduated with honors from Brooklyn's Midwood Academy For the Desperate. Has appeared onstage with Tom Paxton, Peter Yarrow, Oscar Brand and Mel Torme, none of whom were aware of his presence at the time. Won the 1995 New Folk Award at the Kerrville (TX) Folk Festival, which resulted in the Festival's subsequent adoption of computerized voting machines with a paper trail. Opening the show: Patricia Mazo with pianist Dave Myers Web Site:www.modernman3.com Doors open at 6:30 pm Tickets: $17.50 Order online or call 845-469-4595 for reservations. Directions To Bodles | ||

The L.A. Mixing keen insight with humor and pathos, her songs have been recorded by many others including Juice Newton, Sawyer Brown and Dan Seals (who had a #1 country hit with her song Addicted).PAUL SALOMON's songs "sing" of love, loss, and the hard times of all time. ![]() Friday 9:00 pm | DAVID WILCOX, also special guest CHARLOTTE KENDRICK Acoustic, Singer-Songwriter | Towne Crier Cafe 130 Route 22 Pawling, NY See Map |
DAVID WILCOX's widely revered contemporary acoustic folk sound has a rich and inviting signature sound: open guitar tunings of his own devise and highly evolved chord structures. His lyrics follow Woody Guthrie's principle that a song can't just be good, it has to be good for something. His songs are insightful, thought-provoking, and give hope and strength to the listener.
"David Wilcox can turn a smart phrase and match it to a melody compelling enough to give sensitive singer-songwriters back their good name. All this while remaining earnest to a fault" - New York Daily NewsCHARLOTTE KENDRICK's music is a timeless collection of deceptively simple songs, each one of which will raise your spirit while simultaneously breaking your heart. It's hard to imagine her smooth, intimate and inviting voice in the rough Peace Corps setting in Africa where she first started writing songs to entertain herself, but her music promises to be a perfect opening to a David Wilcox performance.
