| Laurie Siegel and the 8th Step are both turning 40 this year..and their relationship goes back a long way. Way back in the 1990's while the Eighth Step (billed as the country's longest continuously running coffee house) was still housed in its' original home in the First Presbyterian Church in Albany NY, Laurie ran a Wednesday night open mic along with her brother, Peter Siegel (www.petersiegel.com) . The Siegels' group, The Harmonious Hogchokers was nurtured there. Laurie will perform on October 20th as part of the Eighth Steps' 40th anniversary celebration. She will be joined on stage by Hudson Valley bassist, Rusty Boris and pianist, Chris White. Also appearing as part of the celebration: Bob Franke, Lui Collins, Betty and the Baby Boomers, Addie and Olin Unleashed, Glenn Weiser, Cathy Winter, Judy Trupin and others tba. | The Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra will open its second season on Saturday October 20, at 7:30 p.m. with Beethoven’s overture to Fidelio and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 (from the New World). A special treat will be a performance of Saint-Saens’ Concerto No. 1 in A Minor with guest cellist Lillia Keyes. Lillia Keyes, a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, is a senior at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She has been featured on From The Top, a National Public Radio show, and performed in the 2007 Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Germany. The Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra was founded in 2006 to bring live orchestral music to the Hyde Park community and the surrounding Hudson Valley area. The orchestra, which includes both professional and talented young musicians, aims to make high-quality, professional-caliber performances accessible to all especially to students in area school districts. Mighty Girl: Lena Fahringer (vocal, guitar), Bill Fahringer (drums), Bob Torsello (Bass). Mark McNutt (lead guitar).Mighty Girl features the songs and voice of Lena Fahringer. Best known for their work with Ghostvilla, Lena and Bill Fahringer have performed at such festivals as Woodstock '94. Bob Torsello also performs with Shrubs and Janet Hamill and Moving Star. He has performed and recorded with Patti Smith, Lenny Kaye, Glenn Mercer (The Feelies), and jazz legend David Amram. His appearances include The Cavern Club (Liverpool UK), Central Park Summerstage, The Knitting Factory, and The Bumpershoot Festival in Seattle. Evan cites Indigo Girls, Bob Dylan, Ritchie Havens, The Allman Bros Band, Neil Young, Peter Paul Mary, The Patti Smith Group, Pink Floyd, David Wilcox, Crosby Stills & Nash and James Taylor as his influences. His song writing style is as eclectic as the instruments he plays. Evan Teatum has recorded and performed with 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Patti Smith and guitar great Lenny Kaye. He also has recorded and performed with Jazz Great and Beat Era legend, David Anram, as well as local favorites, such as, Shrubs, Ariel, and Moving Star.
