Dakota Dave is a restlessly curious, adventurous traveler along the broad highway of America's music. In his playing the masters speak, but in a vocabulary that is Dave's alone: alternatively mirthful and moving, always melodic. A gifted composer as well as a strikingly original interpreter of older tunes, Dakota Dave calls what he does "classic American guitar." Folk legend Van Ronk called Dave "one of the best guitarists in the world." Brooks Williams is a stunning blues-soaked, rhythmic, and soulful guitarist. Tuesday 8:30 pm | Andy Grammer, Josh Tangney | Bodles Opera House 39 Main Street Chester, NY See Map |
Andy Grammer: Warm vocals flushed over percussive acoustic guitar riffs, Andy Grammer brings a fresh uplifting approach to the all too often downer singer songwriter scene. Growing up in New York he got his itch for songwriting listening to his father (grammy nominated songwriter) hammer away chords in the next room. After two years of studying theater in Binghamton N.Y., he noticed that the songs he was writing between scenes were running through his head during performances and it was obvious his true love was music. He hopped ship for LA and currently resides in the center of Hollywood where he is working on his first full length album. / Opening the show: Josh Tangney:
As a singer/songwriter from Chester, N.Y, Josh Tangney has been writing music and poetry since he was 15 years old. Through his words he creates songs of passion, experience, life, love and loss. ![]() Friday 9:00 pm | The BATTLEFIELD BAND from Scotland Celtic | Towne Crier Cafe 130 Route 22 Pawling, NY See Map |
It'll be great to hear the Battlefield Band again. They visit us on almost every U.S. tour since their first, nearly two decades ago, and are still leading the field of traditionally-based bands from Scotland. Blending old and new with perfect inspiration is their trademark - traditional ballads and dance tunes as well as original compositions, played utilizing ancient and modern instruments - bagpipes, fiddle, synthesizers, flute, sax, accordion and cittern. A major music magazine poll named them as Best Live Band. They've played with folks like Van Morrison & Paul Brady. Their sound is joyful, raging, contemplative and raucous. In addition to founding member Alan Reid on keyboard, lead vocal and songwriting, the group includes Alsdair White (Gaelic singer & composer, multi-instrumentalist and award-winning fiddler since the age of 13), Mike Katz (who has been playing bagpipes since he was ten, and also handles whistles, small pipes & bass) and Sean O'Donnell on guitar & vocal.
