FINDING YOUR VOICE half-day workshop
with Danielle Woerner
Teaching Workshop
Dutchess Community College
53 Pendell Road
Poughkeepsie, NY   See Map
Dutchess Community College faculty member Danielle Woerner presents her 3-hour workshop, "Finding Your Voice" at the College. Location: Dutchess Hall, East Lounge.

A workshop-style class designed to acquaint students with their vocal capabilities and what we might call their "essential voice": the unique sound that belongs to each one of us when it is freed from tension, fear, and habits that interfere with it, and is supported by good basic technique. Novices and those who already sing are all welcome. Our work and play together will include fundamentals of vocal production, relaxation and centering exercises (after all, when we sing, our entire body is our instrument!), and forays into song. Enrollment limited to 9. Tuition $50.

Making Their Hometown Debut at "Bluegrass Between The Bridges" ...

“Uncommon Ground”, is a hot alternative bluegrass group that is on a mission to flex the boundaries of traditional music. They possess razor-sharp vocals, fiery instrumental abilities and a rapidly growing repertoire of well-crafted tunes. “Uncommon Ground” is schooled in tradition yet is able to stretch out in inspired improvisation. In short, “Uncommon Ground” is as fresh an addition to the bluegrass—make that, the music—scene as has come along in many a year.

“Uncommon Ground” draws on the talents of Michael Kobetitsch, Sara Della Posta and Wayne Fugate, all long-time veterans of the Bluegrass scene who have performed with a host of musical luminaries, along with Rachel Handman and Phil Helm, two principles in the Hudson Valley Philharmonic whose technical precision, fertile inventiveness, surprising touches and mastery of the Bluegrass genre, give the band a distinctive, signature voice.

The M SHANGHAI STRING BAND of Brooklyn, New York, started in 2002 as a monthly show in the basement of a local chinese restaurant, the M Shanghai Bistro. Locals began to call the band "M Shanghai". "Women in Music" is pleased to present MEG JOHNSON BAND at the Colony Cafe in Woodstock. Meg is a singer/songwriter who, along with co-writer Kyle Esposito, knows how to craft songs using metaphors and images based on the natural world, along with the emotions and vagaries of modern life, as well. Stylistically, these songs draw from bluegrass, folk, country and pop and Meg's rootsy vocals compliment them perfectly. This band of virtuosos, Kyle Esposito, Doug Marcus, Manuel Quintana, Bob Resnick and Kevin Maul, create aural landscapes that comfort, cajole, and rock the listener all at the same time. The Roost, Will NovaBodles Opera House
39 Main Street
Chester, NY   See Map
The Roost is a heart & soul Rock and Roll band whose influences are not of these times. The music is no frills and straight ahead with plenty of melody for good measure.

The band counts much of the English blues and rock bands and singers of the seventies as influences, along with the great American soul music burgeoning in the sixties.

The Roost plays for the love of it with no excuses. The idea for the band was born out of a group of friends meeting every now and again and playing what ever came to mind. It was obvious they were all thinking the same thing. Three of those friends started writing together, recording together and before they knew it, The Roost came to be! / Opening the show: Will Nova
