Gandalf Murphy and The Slambovian Circus of DreamsBodles Opera House
39 Main Street
Chester, NY   See Map
In 1998 The Circus emerged from the misty hills of Sleepy Hollow, New York and exploded upon the Hudson Valley music scene with their stunning self-produced debut release, "A Good Thief Tips His Hat". The quirky quartet then began touring throughout the northeast and rapidly developed a fiercely loyal, all-ages following. Featured recently in Relix Magazine, the New York Times and on the CBS hit show, Joan of Arcadia, the band's charismatic live performances and whimsical blend of folk, rock, hillbilly and pop have simply captivated audiences and critics alike. The music of Slambovia has been described as "Hillbilly-Floyd, folk-pop", "alt-country roots-rock, and "surreal Americana". Gandalf Murphy and The Slambovian Circus of Dreams ... Their music can "Heal what ails ya!

Michael Pickett
Blues. Americana
The Rosendale Cafe
434 Main St.
Rosendale, NY   See Map
At the age of four he sang for his grandmother who tossed him nickels and dimes while she sat at the kitchen table sipping her whiskey - laced tea. His mother bought him a harmonica when he was about 13. Shortly after that he saw Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee on tv and he was hooked for life. The soul of this timeless genre is deeply rooted in his psyche and he continues to nurture this passion.

Pickett embraces the Blues with style, substance and musical integrity. In the 70s, 80s, and 90s he established himself as a musically ground-breaking, electrifying singer/songwriter/harmonica player, leading seminal bands Whiskey Howl, Wooden Teeth, and the Michael Pickett Band. Musically profound, they pushed the envelope for Blues and funky Roots music. He provided the direction for all three projects and surrounded himself with some of the top musicians in the country.

"Ellis Paul is the consummate acoustic music performer, perhaps because his folk music sounds, as often as not, like stripped-down rock or pop, but more likely because he’s such a singular songwriter who delivers his songs with genuine passion every night." - Jay N. Miller, The Patriot Ledger

"The secret to Paul's rivetingly honest performing style is that he culls his stage presence and between-song banter from the same authentic place he draws his songs." - Scott Alarik, The Boston Globe

In 1997, Gaelic Storm was catapulted out of their formative pub haunts by an appearance in the blockbuster film Titanic. Cast as the "party band" in the steerage scene, they landed the part while still drinking pints and playing weekly at O'Brien's pub (Santa Monica, California). After the film's release, the band was met by huge crowds on their first tour. However, they still pride themselves on remaining as accessible as ever and sharing "a pint" with fans whenever possible.

Making Their Debut at "The Towne Crier Cafe" ...

“Uncommon Ground”, is a hot alternative bluegrass group that is on a mission to flex the boundaries of traditional music. They possess razor-sharp vocals, fiery instrumental abilities and a rapidly growing repertoire of well-crafted tunes. “Uncommon Ground” is schooled in tradition yet is able to stretch out in inspired improvisation. In short, “Uncommon Ground” is as fresh an addition to the bluegrass—make that, the music—scene as has come along in many a year.

“Uncommon Ground” draws on the talents of Michael Kobetitsch, Sara Della Posta and Wayne Fugate, all long-time veterans of the Bluegrass scene who have performed with a host of musical luminaries, along with Rachel Handman and Phil Helm, two principles in the Hudson Valley Philharmonic whose technical precision, fertile inventiveness, surprising touches and mastery of the Bluegrass genre, give the band a distinctive, signature voice.

Pillowface has been making waves throughout New York’s Hudson Valley and Capitol Region since the summer of 2000. Formed from the ashes of local band Two Ton Shoes by drummer Ronni Gambino and guitarist Steve Ascarino, the group is completed by former Slipfist bassist Tom Rimington and vocalist Bobby Weiss, formerly of the band Pajamazon. This powerful quartet offers intense, melodic hard rock delivered with high-energy performances, passionate vocals, rib-cracking guitar and a lock-tight rhythm section. In early 2003 pillowface independently released a 15-song cd entitled “Disorders of Hearing” and through constant live appearances to support the album, gathered legions of fans that faithfully attend every show.
