David "Honeyboy" Edwards was born June 28, 1915 in Shaw, Mississippi. Honeyboy is one of the last living links to Robert Johnson, and one of the last original acoustic Delta blues players. He is a living legend, and his story is truly part of history. He is the real deal.

Honeyboy was a part of many of the seminal moments of the blues. As Honeyboy writes in "The World Don't Own Me Nothing", "...it was in '29 when Tommy Johnson come down from Crystal Springs, Mississippi. He was just a little guy, tan colored, easy-going; but he drank a whole lot. At nighttime, we'd go there and listen to Tommy Johnson play." Honeyboy continues, " Listening to Tommy, that's when I really learned something about how to play guitar."

For 25 years, musicians have trusted their instrument repairs to Gary, the self-taught luthier of Crackerbox Music. Without warning, Gary passed away on May 31, days after his 49th birthday.

As it was all so sudden and unexpected, we're having a big memorial picnic/concert/festival in his honor. A chance for all friends and fans and family to celebrate his life and the impact he had on us.

The music will begin around 11, but you can come earlier if you like. There are about 20 musical acts over 6 hours. Short sets, just to play something in Garys' honor. No admission charge, but bring a covered dish, or dessert, or drink etc. to share if you like.

This isn't just for musicians and his relatives. If you were a friend or fan of Gary's we hope to see you there.

By 1996, he had signed to Rounder Records and released his impressive debut, No Angel Knows, which atttracted widespread critical acclaim and announced the former Maine resident as a major new singer-songwriter. Broke Down, which followed in 2000, reached beyond the cult audience Cleaves had attracted and gave him a national following. The Austin Chronicle dubbed it "the first great Texas album of the 21st Century," while the Chicago Sun-Times noted that Cleaves "has fashioned a timeless yet fresh sound rooted in the best storytelling tradition of the great singer-songwriters."

One of the best bands around! Their song selections are called up "rapid fire" style as needed to captivate an audience and to keep the event moving all night long...

They also reach just a bit deeper than most bands in our song selections.

As well as the "standards", they love to play songs that you do not hear everyday, but bring back some fantastic memories...

Once you hear them you'll want to come back for more!!

ENJOY DINNER WHILE LISTENING TO THE BAND. THE KITCHEN CLOSES AT 11:30.
