Blues guitarist and singer Debbie Davies first gained widespread notice during her three years with the late Albert Collins' band, the Icebreakers. Her roles included solo and rhythm guitar, vocalist and guitar "duelist" with Collins, who called her "a great guitar player who sure can play the blues." She has worked with blues icons like B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Koko Taylor and John Mayall (who gave her a rare and unequivocal endorsement). Her gritty vocals and searing guitar work have drawn comparisons to Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and many other superlatives. Her latest CDs, Tales from the Austin Motel and I Got That Feeling showcase her finest work to date. Be here or be blue!

Peppy Castro has done it all and is a successful seasoned professional with great variety in his music! His fame began at the age of 17 as one of the founding fathers of the legendary rock group “The Blues Magoos”. His rock and roll status led him to a starring role in the original Broadway Production of “Hair”. He is also an award-winning playwright and multi-instrumentalist, having penned and performed an amazing amount of well-known commercial jingles. His songs have been covered by the likes of Diana Ross, Kiss and Cher, among others. His potent back-up vocals have been heard on records for numerous well-known recording artists. He’s enjoyed years of diverse music by being an original member of the bands Balance, Barnaby Bye and Wiggy Bits. Recently, Peppy has reunited with his long time band mates from Barnaby Bye. They were originally discovered and signed to Atlantic records by Ahmet Ertegun from their first live performance. Barnaby Bye is back with the magic that brought them national attention. They’re currently in the studio recording their first cd in decades and have started performing live again. They're shows have been selling out! Following the recent passing of his wife, Peppy has rediscovered his love of the acoustic guitar and has written a body of work that he now calls his “Therapy Tour”. He is ready to share with all who will listen!

JOHN MAYALL & THE BLUESBREAKERS, with special guest Little Toby Walker
Blues
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
The elder statesman of British blues, John Mayall is more renowned as a mentor than as a performer in his own right. Throughout the '60s, his band, The Bluesbreakers, acted as a finishing school for British blues-rock musicians. Guitarists Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor joined his band in a remarkable succession, honing their chops with Mayall before going on to join Cream, Fleetwood Mac and the Rolling Stones, respectively.

Today's Bluesbreakers are John Mayall, Joe Yuele, drums; Buddy Whittington, guitar; Hank Van Sickle, bass. Their latest release is "Stories," which debuted the Billboard blues charts at #1. You won't want to miss the exciting live performance by the Grammy-nominated blues master and his band.

Little Toby Walker is a unique, accomplished fingerstyle guitar virtuoso, adept at blues, rags, hot country picking, and coaxes more out of a guitar than anyone can imagine. We're glad to have him back to open the show!

Jazz. punk-funk
The Muddy Cup
516 Broadway
Kingston, NY   See Map
Mike Dillon's Go-Go Jungle walk a fine line between old school big beat grooves and Frank Zappa irreverence. On Battery Milk, they splendidly showcase a penchant for musical unpredictability hop-scotching from Meters-influenced funk like that of "Go-Go's Theme" to the black comedy-tinged "The Voyeur." There are moments of punk jazz mania such as the tongue-in-cheek "Stupid Americans" and straight-up improvisational fireworks like the Eddie Harris-inspired "Harris Country." "I wanted to write some blues heads like Milt Jackson might have written had he grown up listening to Led Zeppelin, and play them over a go-go groove," explains Dillon of the Go-Go Jungle's sound. "Having a drummer who comes from the P-Funk tradition keeps everything locked in. And J.J. on bass is great at taking up the slack and filling out the sound. I get three layers of vibes by putting a pick-up on each bar and running it through a Fender Twin (amplifier),

Tempest, Jamie Lynne Paradise
Celtic
Bodles Opera House
39 Main Street
Chester, NY   See Map
Since forming in 1988, Tempest has delivered a globally-renowned hybrid of high-energy folk rock fusing Irish reels, Scottish ballads, Norwegian influences and other world music elements. The last 18 years have seen the San Francisco Bay Area-based act release twelve critically acclaimed CDs and play more than 2,000 gigs. It's also enjoyed an evolving line-up that's enabled its musicianship and creativity to rise with each new member-something highlighted by the group's current roster.
Hailing from Oslo, Norway, founding member and lead singer/electric mandolinist Lief Sorbye is recognized as a driving force in the modern folk-rock movement. Fiddler Michael Mullen, a favorite with the fans, is the original fiddler for the group. Bassist Damien Gonzalez, a native Californian, is also an accomplished drummer and didgeridoo player who may occasionally breathe fire. Native of Devon, England, and a former member of the UK's folk-rock band Equation, guitarist James Crocker combines a deep-rooted British folk sensibility with a life-long rock experience. Cuban-born drummer Adolfo Lazo, an original Tempest member, colors the band's sound with inventive percussion.
Tempest is regularly featured at prestigious festivals including The Philadelphia Folk Festival, Denmark's Skagen Festival, and Britain's Cropredy Festival. The band is also a mainstay at countless American Celtic festivals.
With masterful musicians and innovative arrangements of traditional and original material, Tempest's dedication to its muse and global fan base continues unabated.

Being the child of country songwriter Randy Sharp (he's written hits for Clay Walker, Patty Loveless, etc) and growing up in the San Fernando Valley in the '70s had to have given Maia Sharp a leg up on her way to a musical career. That was the era of Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, and Rickie Lee Jones and music was in the Southern California air. Fast forward to her early twenties, and she could be found on-stage at one of L.A.'s many acoustic venues performing her own jazz/folk songs to an engaged throng of fans. When not on-stage, Sharp could be found collaborating with artists such as Carole King, Jules Shear, Lisa Loeb, and Jonatha Brooke. It was Sharp's songwriting that won the attention of manager Miles Copeland, who signed her to his new Ark 21 label and released her debut album, Hardly Glamour, getting her nominated for Triple-A radio's Artist of the Year.

We're also happy to have Motherlode back at the cafe to open for Maia with their great harmonies & original songs.

This tight trio's definitely catching on. They play an intoxicating mix of originals and an unexpected cover. Great chemistry, a fun show and a good time. Listenable and involuntarily danceable.

Someone once called these guys, "the Hudson Valley's best rhythm section," and they are often heard backing Slam Allen. Solid playing and interesting vocals.

S W Ross and Karl Allweier switch off with bass and guitars and vocals; Phil Nestor plays drums.
