Jake Landau Music Instruction
Jake Landau is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, sound engineer, field recordist, and music educator. As a musician who primarily plays drums/percussion, piano and guitar, Landau has a fluid musicality that blurs the line between his instruments and musical genres. Landau creates compositions that come from the inside out and invites listeners in to a reflective and meditative space. He is most known for his work with composer/percussionist/sound artist Susie Ibarra. As well as being a member of her Fragility Etudes Ensemble (piano, guitar, keyboards, extended percussion) he has performed with Ibarra at the 2016 Rio Olympics, appeared on her modular architecture and music mobile app in collaboration with TEDFellow and architect Aziza Chaouni, 'Music and Water Routes of Fez,' and is a field recordist and sound engineer on her large scale work in collaboration with fellow TEDFellow and Glaciologist Michelle Koppes, ‘Water Rhythms: Listening to Climate Change.' His most recent work with Ibarra includes field recording over 50 traditional and contemporary musicians in the Southern Sahara Desert, Draa Valley, Morocco in collaboration with the Joudour Sahara Music School for a Splice Soundpack.
Jake Landau teaches everything he explores and employs in his own music practice. Instrument study on Drums/Percussion, Piano, Guitar as well as music theory and composition study. He also offers teaching on the music production/recording side; teaching recording techniques, DAW instruction in both Ableton and Pro Tools, microphone placement techniques, editing and mixing etc … Landau has offered private instruction and taught in extra curricular music schools in the Hudson Valley since 2017 and has been a live dance class accompanist at Ethical Culture Fieldston School in the Bronx, NY since 2016.
Landau can be heard with Ibarra on her albums ‘Perception’ (2017) and ‘Walking on Water’ (2021) as well as her modular mobile iOS app ‘Music and Water Routes of Fez.’ Landau’s most recent releases as a composer/performer include ‘Lullaby For a Suffering World’ (2021) , ‘One Spring Morning’ (2021) and ‘Dreambook 1 : Breaking the Silence’ (2021) Landau runs Crossroads Studio, a recording studio out of his home in New Paltz, NY.
