Anaisa is a multi-generational, traditional Cuban charanga ensemble. Performing the charanga repertoire from danzón, mambo, and chachacha to pachanga, charanga-salsa, songo, and beyond, Anaisa provides the elegance and charm of flute and strings with the swing and sabor of the Cuban rhythm section. When all of your favorites from every era are brought to life by this classic ensemble, what could sound more like home? Anaïsa is Abuela's kitchen on La Noche Buena.
Led by flutist and charanga historian Dr. Jessica Valiente, the band includes NYC Latin music veterans Amy Millan on piano, Anna Milat-Meyer on bass, Yasuyo Kimura on congas, Julie Rosado on vocals, and the Valientes on strings and percussion. Sounding The Field invites participants into a deeper relationship with themselves, their ancestry, and the living web of human connection. As a group, we will explore how sound can reveal what has been silenced, restore connection across generations, and weave a sonic container for grief, belonging, reconciliation, and transformation. Anyone who feels drawn to these healing modalities is welcome. If you are a healer, a musician, or a combination of these, this workshop will enlarge your experience of what is possible in your form(s). At 20, he was playing the drums first with Dexter Gordon, and then Johnny Griffin, and honed his chops for the next four years under the tutelage of the late, great Betty Carter. Winard has released numerous CD's to his credit, is one of the most sough-after sidemen on the jazz circuit; has been exploring African rhythms that influence his work, and is noted for his abilities on the cymbals, which under his hand become an outstanding solo instrument all their own. The Poughkeepsie Jazz Project was created in 2012 with the goal of maintaining live jazz culture and community in Poughkeepsie, NY. Matthew Carlson Announces Sprawling U.S. Tour During July and August, 2026
Michigan based singer/songwriter Matthew Carlson is headed out on a sprawling tour across the eastern half of the United States. Spread out over three weeks, the first leg of The Late Bloomers Tour will include 18 shows in 10 states with Carlson performing original songs from his quarter century in The Stick Arounds, Harborcoat, and The Pantones. These shows are a raw and intimate experience, laced with Carlson’s detailed and hilarious storytelling. Three years ago, in the midst of a mental health crisis and the impending collapse of his business, Carlson walked away from a 23 year career in sales to focus on music, writing, and his podcast, What Am I Making.
