The Poughkeepsie Jazz Project was created in 2012 with the goal of maintaining live jazz culture and community in Poughkeepsie, NY. Since its inception, The PKJP has presented a weekly jazz jam session accessible to all musicians and fans of live music. Over the past twelve years, the jam has been honored to host hundreds of musicians from the Tri-state area. This event is free to both participants and listeners. All with a passion for jazz are welcome.

Music performed at this session is a mixture of: jazz standards, jazz repertoire, american songbook, bossa nova, and afro cuban. Sorry, we do not host original material at this session.

The Ahlfabet Swing Band, a popular swing jazz group in the New York metropolitan area is led by Albert Ahlf and features The Harrow Sisters with Livia on lead vocals - 3-part harmony in the style of the McGuire sisters.

The band specializes in 30s and 40s style jazz, with a focus on the swing music of the big band era. In addition to their classic repertoire, the Ahlfabet Swing Band has recently started to create fun swing arrangements of classic rock and pop tunes. The band's music is always fun and upbeat, and they really emphasize the danceable jazz that was once pop music.

The Ahlfabet Swing Band is a great way to experience the golden age of jazz. The band's high-energy performances are sure to get you moving, and their love of the music is contagious.

Best known as the star and executive producer of the hit series, THE CARBONARO EFFECT on truTV, Michael Carbonaro has also made frequent television appearances in shows such as Happily Divorced, 30 Rock, Grey’s Anatomy, and CSI Miami. A performing magician since his youth, Carbonaro went on to study experimental theater at New York University with aspirations of entertaining audiences through a variety of theatrical mediums, including hidden-camera magic, which he later showcased frequently on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Following Carbonaro’s frequent late-night appearances, Michael launches his hit comedic series, “The Carbonaro Effect,” which has run for over 100 episodes on truTV and currently airs on Max and in syndication worldwide. In this series, Michael performs inventive tricks on unsuspecting members of the public who are unaware that he is a magician. Get ready for a night of genre-blurring songwriters as Blood Boy, Buoy George, and Lewis Gable take the stage at The Common Good on Friday, June 13th, at 8 PM. The dynamic lineup of local and city-based artists promises a mix of psychedelic blues, indie experimentation, and playful songcraft.

Headlining the night is Blood Boy, a psychedelic blues duo from the Bronx by way of Ellenville, known for their hypnotic riffs and gruff, soulful energy.

Joining them is Brown Bread, deemed a dreamy bedroom pop songstress by her pals; Buoy George, an indie project weaving intricate melodies with off-kilter rhythms hailing from Newburgh; and Lewis Gable, whose evocative songwriting have earned him a devoted following.

Folk legend and Westchester native Dar Williams is known for her impactful lyrics and an influence on today’s folk music scene. Rising out of the vibrant mid-90s Boston scene, her successful career as a singer-songwriter spans over 25 years. Williams’s success took off after Joan Baez, a key figure in folk music, claimed Dar Williams to be a “folk artist worthy of attention.” Her style is inspired by the eclectic influences of alt-rockers, Berklee jazz musicians, slam poets, and folk artists like Patty Griffith, Melissa Ferrick, the Throwing Muses, Vance Gilbert, and Jonathan Brooke.

Stix Bones was the drummer for internationally known group Soulfege, lead by former Oprah Winfrey XM Sirius host Derrick N. Ashong. Stix has had the privilege to record two award winning albums with Soulfege and perform on the Derrick Ashong Experience. The album "Afropolitan" made its mark on the Jazz Week World Charts. He has produced hit songs for guitarist Matt Marshak including "Gas Lamp Groove" and "Harlem River Drive."
