Benji & Rita

Brazilian music has a keen ability to tie the magical and surreal with the grounded and historical. New York-based composer Benji Kaplan and Brazilian singer and songwriter Rita Figueiredo pick up that vibrating, multicolored thread and weave it into fantastical new portraits of Brazil and New York on Benji & Rita (release: May 10, 2019), their album-length debut as a duo.

Cinematic and refined, Benji & Rita channels the scents and sounds, the flora and fauna of the couple’s homelands, drawing on everything from samba and baião, to waltzes and pop catchiness, much as Brazilian popular composers have over the last five decades.

They have already toured throughout Europe and South America, enchanting audiences with their unique approach and take on Brazilian, jazz and classical traditions.

"You really can't do better than these two when it comes to current players of this genre.” - Aaron Carnes (East Bay Express)

No Quarter- Tribute to Zeppelin’s Legacy
Rock (classic)
Paramount Hudson Valley Theater
1008 Brown St.
Peekskill, NY   See Map
For over 15 years No Quarter (a tribute to the Led Zeppelin legacy) has been pounding the Hammer of the Gods to Led Zeppelin fans both nationally and internationally. This authentic live concert reproduction goes far beyond any group of musicians covering the same tunes you’ve heard on the radio for over 4 decades. Any musician can learn a song note for note. However, to do a full tribute with all of the subtle nuances and authentic look and sound and mannerisms is comparable to an actor preparing for a character in a film. In this case the characters are members of the legendary British supergroup. No Quarter captures the characters of John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and brings each individual member to the stage in their absolute prime. Die hard Zeppelin fans and rockstars they’ve shared the stage with have sworn they were watching the real group live. Hence the word being spread that No Quarter is “The real Deal” when it comes to Led Zepplein tributes.

In their nearly 50-year history, NRBQ's records have been released by many record companies. Their song "Get That Gasoline Blues", reached No. 70 in 1974 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Over the years, the group played sets while wearing pajamas, hired professional wrestler "Captain" Lou Albano as its manager (for whom they penned a song in tribute), and exploded Cabbage Patch Dolls on stage.

NRBQ's music is a blend of styles from rockabilly to Beatles-influenced pop to Thelonious Monk-inspired jazz. They have attracted fans such as Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Keith Richards, The Replacements, and Penn & Teller. NRBQ songs have been performed by Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos, Dave Edmunds, and many others.

NRBQ has a following from years of live shows. The band has been known to perform without a set list, so fans never know what songs to expect.

"Vincitore delivers rich observations of life and relationships on this rootsy collection...this lady is comfortable in her own skin, and she carries a song the same way." George W. Harris, Jazz Weekly

“...one of the best guitarists in the country...” - Billboard

http://www.scottsharrard.com/

2018 GRAMMY nominee Scott Sharrard had been the touring guitarist for the Gregg Allman Band since 2008.

Gregg Allman, had high praise for the guitarist...

“I know all about guitar players —I’ve seen the very best — and Scott Sharrard is the perfect guitarist for my band. He understands that you don’t need to play just for the sake of playing; Scott isn’t one of those guys who thinks they’re getting paid by the note. He never steps on the vocals, and leaves plenty of room for everyone else to do their thing, but when it’s time to solo, Scott delivers, boy.”

While acting as Musical Director & Co-Writer for Allman and recording "Southern Blood" in Muscle Shoals, Scott was concentrating on the growth of his solo career, as well, while holding Gregg's legacy near and dear.

“...one of the more promising young names in folk music today.” - Elmore Magazine

www.johnjohnbrown.com

https://www.facebook.com/johnjohnbrownmusic/

Brown's sophomore album is currently in production, heavily influenced by the lyrical style of John Prine. John John was invited to perform at Bethel Wood's / Woodstock's 50th Anniversary (the original site of Woodstock). He shared the weekend with luminaries, The Doobie Brothers, Santana, Ringo Starr, John Fogerty, Grace Potter and Derek Trucks.

Steeped in fine storytelling and fingerpicking melodies, John John Brown seems to have discovered part of the mystery that surrounds the great singer/songwriter tradition.

New Paltz, NY   See Map
John Gorka is perhaps the quintessential iconic singer-songwriter of the 80’s folk scene. Hailing from New Jersey, but forged in the Greenwich Village Fast Folk scene, he honed his craft and persona into an unmistakable image. The shy, wry, insightful, and yes, sensitive singer-songwriter has been copied and parodied. But the old coat he wove still fits, and still suits him well. The old songs ring as true as they ever did, and the new ones are just as good.

“This is an album that will need to be listened to and not just played in the background. It has to marinate in your musical soul--It is for select tastes and for discriminating ears. It will make an impression…it will.” — John Apice, No Depression

https://cpjjmusic.com/

This folk/Americana duo from Baton Rouge, LA, borrows from and transforms traditional Southern cornerstones such as folk, blues, country, and Americana. However, though the duo remains loyal to the heritage that brought them together, Clay and Jodi are unafraid of experimenting further, often intermixing mellow psychedelia and cosmic country into their classic harmonies.

For The Lonesomest Sound That Can Sound, the duo worked closely with multiple engineers, studios, and mixers, including Denton Hatcher at the Blue Velvet Studio and Joshua St. Moblo at the Bakery Sound Studio.

Marlboro, NY   See Map
Ben Monder and Tony Malaby, whose musical relationship goes back 20 years, team up with veteran master drummer Billy Mintz for a night of sonic explorations.

"Mr. Monder has a deep rapport with Mr. Malaby: Depending on the moment, they can seem like dance partners, sparring partners or members of a relay team. What they create is hallucinatory, indebted both to free-jazz avatars like Albert Ayler and the combustible side of prog-rock. " - New York Times

Mr. Malaby, a tenor and soprano saxophonist drawn about equally to ecstatic turbulence and reflective calm, convenes two excellent partners in this new trio: the guitarist Ben Monder and the drummer Billy Mintz, both expert colorists with an ability to duck in and out of established form. - Nate Chinen

A New York lyric and rhythm-driven Indie Singer/Songwriter, Tina Ross, with her soulful, emotion-soaked vocals, has been performing since age ten. Tina’s music has been described as “essence writing” as she forages for and captures the unifying threads common to our mutual experience. Her songs have been recognized as an Honorable Mention winner in The John Lennon Songwriting contest, and a Folk/Country Category Finalist in The UK Songwriting contest. After studying Biology and Voice in college she chose the predictable life of a Chiropractor and Nutritionist. She is now reconnecting to her musical roots and stepping out and trading that in for the gloriously creative and mindful path of a Singer/Songwriter. Tina crafts songs that draw from diverse influences; her folk roots as well as artists like Joni Mitchell and Bonnie Raitt, the blues of Robert Johnson and the vocals of Sarah Vaughn and Etta James.

Wild Ponies are on tour in support of their latest album, 'Galax', released on Gearbox Records (Applewood Road, Thelonious Monk, etc.), and recorded in a shed behind Doug’s grandparents farm in the mountains of Virginia.

Galax is an album about the pieces of our past that stick with us, informing our present while pushing us toward a future. An album about a town, a country, and a world that's forever spinning toward something new. An album that redefines Wild Ponies' sound, while highlighting influences that have always rested just beneath the surface.
