Grace Episcopal Church

Middletown, NY   See Map
The Warwick Valley Chorale will perform two Spring 2019 concerts in May. This season’s repertoire, directed by Stanley Curtis and accompanied by Gail Johnson, literally represents 1,000 years of song. The Cambridge Songs Suite No. 2 was composed in 2018, using 11th century lyrics (whose original tunes have been lost) to create an exciting modern cantata. The Warwick Chorale will join the composer’s own choruses to sing the world premiere of this work at Carnegie Hall on June 10, 2019.

Giovanni Pergolesi’s 18th century Magnificat will also be performed along with the Cambridge Songs in both local concerts in May (and at the Carnegie Hall performance). The local performances will also include a wide selection of 20th century classics from the American songbook, such as “Who Could Ask for Anything More,” “Our Love is Here to Stay” and “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” as well as Broadway tunes including “Bring Him Home,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” and “Luck Be a Lady Tonight.”

ToasterBasket is a dynamic group of five musicians deconstructing, fusing, and re-serving up the sounds of soul, jazz, blues, and funk into a mosaic of “modern motown rock” for your listening pleasure. ToasterBasket is inclusive, cohesive, and improvisational. It is the raw and husky verses of songstress Jezebel Jeffrey, and the syncopated tones of keyboardist Patrick Stokes that started the story of this New York group. The pair began writing music together and at the end of 2017 they added Josh Towers on Bass, Steven Repka on Guitar and most recently Terry Hampton keeping everyone tight on drums. With a wide range of influences, ToasterBasket appeals to listeners of all ages.

Lights. Camera. Action. Cue music! In this exclusive presentation of “Film Music: Groundbreaking Director/Composer Collaborations,” Peabody Award-winning Broadcaster & Producer and WQXR radio host Elliott Forrest will explore the unique relationship of film composers and directors, charting the evolution of the art form. Within the discussion, he will also address why film composers’ scores were initially not welcome for performance in concert halls and how that has changed today.

Film buffs and music lovers will experience an in-depth, interactive, cinematic ride. Through video clips from some of his favorite and historically significant films, Mr. Forrest will showcase music by such groundbreaking composers as Bernard Herrmann (Citizen Kane, Psycho, Vertigo, Taxi Driver), John Williams (Star Wars, Schindler’s List), Nino Rota (The Godfather), Ennio Morricone (The Mission), Danny Elfman (Edward Scissorhands), and more. By birth a Tennessean, David Massengill “emigrated” to the Greenwich Village folk scene in the mid-70’s, walking the same streets and playing the same storied coffee houses as Dylan and Van Ronk. His songs have been covered and recorded by Joan Baez, The Roches, Lucy Kaplansky, Tom Russell, Nanci Griffith and his mentor, Dave Van Ronk, who said David “took the dull out of dulcimer!” Notes Music Boulevard, “That David made the lap dulcimer his instrument of choice tells us a lot about the soft-spoken native of eastern Tennessee.”

Jo Williamson's musical oeuvre is a journey of the heart. She shares with us the depth and intensity of a compelling inner world. Her songs are brilliantly crafted and are eloquently delivered with her exquisite voice. In 2018 she released her fifth recording of music, "Kidz Talk", a collection of original songs for kids of all ages. Her most popular track, "Sing a Little Song", is both a rousing affirmation and a simple plan for living.

The Howland Chamber Music Circle concludes its spring concert series with the Horszowski Trio, featuring violist Masumi Per Rostad, on Sunday May 19 at 4 p.m. at the Howland Cultural Center in Beacon, NY.

Hailed by The New Yorker as “destined for great things,” when the members of the Horszowski Trio (Hor-SHOV-ski) – Jesse Mills, Raman Ramakrishnan, and Rieko Aizawa – played together for the first time, they immediately felt the spark of a unique connection. Many years of close friendship had created a deep trust between the players, which in turn led to exhilarating expressive freedom. Returning to the HCMC’s chamber music series, the Horszowski Trio will be joined by violist Masumi Per Rostad to perform piano quartets as well as trios. Masumi has appeared at HCMC a number of times as part of the fabulous Pacifica Quartet.

1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Poet Gold assembles a fresh new line-up of brilliant spoken word and musical artists every fourth Wednesday. The Falcon's highly encouraged DONATION policy will support these wonderful living artists.

Twenty three year old Dana Bolton has found herself tapping into different forms of ink, "writing out truths in the shape of water". Her passion began with pen and paper. When asked how she has evolved so far as a writer, her answer is, heartbreak, a bit of reminiscence, and fire in her veins. "I believe there is a growth, and strength in vulnerability. Challenging yourself brings out a side that you never thought you'd discover and fall in love with."

Host Poet Gold’s poetry balances the written word with performance, delivering Spoken Word Poetry that is both transformative and entertaining. She is the recipient of the 2016 Dutchess County Executive’s “Artivist” award and appointed the 2017 and 2018 NYS Dutchess County Poet Laureate.

Poet Gold is an activist of the heart.

“He writes songs that are melodic, hooky and emotionally true, and he sings and plays them with an honesty and force that still finds room for humor without venom.” - All Music Guide

"He's as close as a modern-day Buddy Holly as you can get, with his spare, melodic sound instantly evoking the Crickets, and he writes standards just as good as the Man himself."
