Slam Allen SoloThe FALCON & The FALCON UNDERGROUND

Marlboro, NY   See Map
http://www.slamallen.com/

Slam Allen perfected his already refined entertainer persona in James Cotton's Blues Band, with which he toured for nine years, first as rhythm guitarist, then as lead guitarist and eventually bandleader. Slam has an uncanny ability to hook an audience, a good-time vibe, ever smiling, upbeat and energetic.

A seasoned and internationally recognized touring veteran, Slam Allen is more than a singer, songwriter, and guitar player. He has connected with his audiences like the entertainers of a bygone era - Otis Redding, B.B., Albert, and Freddie King, with some Wilson Picket, James Brown, Sly Stone and a little George Benson and Jimi Hendrix thrown in to the experience.

Slam is forging his legacy in the world of blues and soul. With seven original albums under his belt, he brings back what the music world needs - the love and uplifting honesty that makes for a powerful and entertaining experience.

Happy Saint Pantrick's Day! On the heels of his triumphant banjoperetta-themed show two weeks ago, The Legend returns to the scene of the crime. There is no part of The Original Pants visible to the audience and only a small bit of infrastructure remains and no one has seen the inside of "Wild" Bill's pants in a long time. Anything might happen in a "Wild" Bill Show except that. What you will see is a rollicking show full of shtik, originals, covers and, of course, a large collection of Irish tunes performed in his own inimitable style. "These Progressive Folk masters are back with a new LP. I do not use the term ‘masters’ lightly as they are one of the few bands that truly capture and refresh the folk variation that happened in the late 1960s....any fan of the Incredible String Band, Steeleye Span, and all the classics of that era should be jumping all over this." -- David Hintz, FolkWorld

https://www.thewarptheweft.com/

The Warp/The Weft, active since 2012 throughout and beyond the Hudson Valley, makes metamorphic rock music, blending the warmth of a good wool sweater and the bleak cold of an upstate winter.

The progressive folk, and occasional psychedelia, the band brings to bear (compared to Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull) is propelled by "spirit-conjuring" tenors and some degree of poetry. The band has just recorded what will soon be its third LP.

The band's most current release, Mapping an Absence (2017) earned praise for its synthesis of styles:

Outstanding guitarist/composer Matthew Finck formed his remarkable jazz/funk ensemble Fat Mink in 2005.

The group’s long awaited first album Fat Mink features drummer Mike Nappi and electric bassist Dave Livolsi locking down the intensely rhythmic groove, with three tracks by Matthew’s longtime collaborator, tenor saxophonist Jonathan Ball.

The focus here is on unbridled groove music in both the hardcore instrumental funk and soul jazz traditions, all built around the imaginative nucleus of Matthew’s extraordinary guitar explorations. The title tune, is a rapid-fire scorcher fired with wailing guitar and wah-electrified – and electrifying – tenor sax. From the powerfully funky and relentlessly rocking tune Flexible, through the punchy, suspended rhythms and highly expressive Sly Stone-ish wah-wah funk drawl of the closing track Minkstinct, this album will keep you on “on the one”.

Key of Q, the Hudson Valley’s LGBTQ and Allied a Cappella Chorus presents: songs from TV! This light-hearted concert will feature theme songs from beloved television series spanning decades from the 1960s to the present day -- a cappella style! Will there be trivia involved? Quite possibly. Will we sing the theme song from what New York Magazine has called "The queerest animated show on TV"? You betcha. Part Two of this concert will be an audience sing-along, so come on and sing your hearts out! Admission is a suggested donation of $15.

Walker's EVERYBODY WANTS A PIECE (his 24th solo album) was the Grammy-nominated Contemporary Blues Album of the Year (2017).

http://www.joelouiswalker.com/

Joe Louis Walker is a walking encyclopedia of blues history, and blues vocal and guitar styles. Born in San Francisco on Christmas Day 1949, he is now based in Westchester, NY. As he grew up, he found himself on stage with tutors John Lee Hooker, Thelonius Monk, The Soul Stirrers, Steve Miller and Jimi Hendrix.

NPR Music has called Walker “a legendary boundary-pushing icon of modern blues,” and has been referred to within the blues world as a living legend.

“I’d really like to inspire younger musicians to carry on the legacy of blues/roots music. But play, and do it your way. Don’t be afraid to mix it up. There’s no right, or wrong way. Just the way you wanna express yourself. And above all, ENJOY YOURSELF.” - Joe Louis Walker
