"The Big Takeover heats up its classic reggae and ska stylings with a horn-powered Motown bounce and pop verve straight from the 1960s and ’70s." - PULSE https://www.bigtakeoverband.com/ Traditionalists or progressives? Fronted by the charismatic Jamaican-born singer and songwriter Nee Nee Rushie, the seven-piece New York band The Big Takeover plays original music that is rooted in and reverent toward the genres and rhythms of Jamaican pop: reggae, rocksteady, ska. They are devotees of Desmond Dekker and the way the old school did it. At the same time, The Big Takeover crosses lines and blends traditions like global pop fusionists. Their deceptively complex arrangements and big hooks connect with the spirit of Motown and the uptown sophistication of the 21st century retro soul and R&B revival scene. Wednesday 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm | Opening Act with Jesse Barki | The FALCON & The FALCON UNDERGROUND 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
https://jessebarki.bandcamp.com/ Listening to Jesse's music is a gentle, inviting *thwack* of a sledgehammer against the walls we create in our lives. He bridges a connection between "this is just who I am" and "who do I want to be?" His album brings us back to late night car rides through the Hudson Valley, of tears, of talking, of listening. | ||
Wednesday 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm | Robt Sarazin Blake | The FALCON & The FALCON UNDERGROUND 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
Robt Sarazin Blake will be touring the NE acoustic scene this winter, playing new songs and songs from his current album 'Recitative'. Music Critic Robert Christgua gave the album and A and wrote: 'Chants that riff on the titles Work, Couples, and Single Women are as instantly indelible as the Springsteen, Weill, Reed, and Van Morrison lifts woven in’. Blake's concerts are a mixture of his songs, stories and improvisations celebrating the crowd, the room and the night' http://www.robertsarazinblake.com Blake's touring and performing has become an art in itself, with 200 shows a year. His own record label Same Room Records, featuring "recordings of songs and musicians in the same room and the same time", is an oddly unique idea in an era of digitally manipulated sounds - and he's sold over 10,000 albums from his suitcase.
