"Copeland embodies the blues with her powerful vocal chops and fearless look at social issues." – NPR

"Shemekia’s a ball-of-fire vocalist with a voice that’s part Memphis, part Chicago and all woman… devastatingly powerful. She’s a great singer, period." – CHICAGO SUN-TIMES

Whether she’s belting out a raucous blues-rocker, firing up a blistering soul-shouter, bringing the spirit to a gospel-fueled R&B rave-up or digging deep down into a subtle, country-tinged ballad, Shemekia Copeland sounds like no one else.

She has sung with Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Carlos Santana, James Cotton and many others. She opened for The Rolling Stones and entertained U.S. troops in Iraq and Kuwait. Jeff Beck calls her “f*cking amazing.” Santana says, “She’s incandescent…a diamond.”

With a new recording, "Outskirts Of Love", and a packed tour schedule, Copeland has her eyes fixed firmly on the future.

THE FLYING CAT MUSIC SERIES PRESENTS

Phoenicia, NY   See Map
On Saturday, November 5th, the Flying Cat presents an evening of music from NYC folk/Americana quintet Bobtown. The Flying Cat concert series is hosted inside the Empire State Railway Museum at 70 Lower High Street, Phoenicia, NY.

With their distinctive original songs and vocal arrangements, NYC’s Bobtown is recognized as taking an unconventional and refreshing approach to the tradition of folk music. WFUV's John Platt chose the group as one of his top three music discoveries of 2013, and Americana UK perhaps summed up the quintet best when they said, "If you're looking for acoustic, Gothic-folk-Americana kissed with gorgeous harmonies, then look no further." Their three-album discography presents a roots music mash-up bound together by a continuous thread of innovative vocal harmonies; and their unpredictable, not-to-be-missed live shows feature a compelling blend of voices and instruments that move gracefully between elegy and celebration.

A HOMECOMING! Stellar Songwriting, Stellar Singing

Acoustic, Singer-Songwriter

12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Just off his 3rd tour with The Rob Thomas Band -- this year with the famed '90s band, Counting Crows -- Marc Von Em is back "Home" in Peekskill. His original music is influenced by folk, funk & blues, with a few choice cover songs woven in. As one reviewer wrote: "If you haven't seen Marc Von Em perform live, you're only cheating yourself."

Marc is able to create amazing amounts of sound and diversity through his voice and one faithful guitar. His chops are wide-ranging, from delicate finger picking to rambunctious Pete Townsend-type strumming. Marc is able to seamlessly switch his vibe -- his dynamic voice can go from smooth & soaring to smoky scatting. His harmonica playing is equally impressive and he sometimes uses it to accompany Muddy Waters-style blues on guitar.

Rob Thomas wrote, "... when I heard his original stuff, I asked [Marc] to open up a 10,000 seat gig. Just him, his guitar, and his songs. He killed it!"

Trixie WhitleyThe FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Since 2013, Trixie has emerged as a compelling solo artist with three EPs and one full-length in her catalog. Fourth Corner, her full-length debut, garnered acclaim from MOJO, Interview, ELLE, Vogue, Relix, The Village Voice, NPR and The New York Times, among many other publications. Through it’s success, she’s toured internationally and earned three nominations, as well as a win for Best Female Artist at the 2013 Belgium Music Industry Awards (MIAs).

Although her previous effort reflects her broad tastes, it is with her latest that Trixie creates a transcendent musical miscellany. It even took chucking an earlier version of the record and starting over to achieve the meaning and mastery displayed in Porta Bohemica. “I wanted to make people think and feel something honest and emotionally complex in my music–that comes from being fully present in the creative moment.”

"Adam Falcon's rock-infused funk and pure soulful voice recall the most honest of '70s rhythm & blues....the best of Shuggie Otis, Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye." - JAZZIZ Magazine

Adam Falcon opened shows for James Cotton Blues Band, Matt “Guitar” Murphy, Tower of Power. Writing a (second) song for the multi-Grammy winner George Benson, titled “True Blue,” got Falcon noticed by The Song Writers Hall of Fame, honoring him with the 2007 Abe Olman Scholarship Award for Songwriting.

"Small melodies frame the voice of a classic crooner with influences from Seal to Smokey Robinson, but when he gets his groove on....he makes an equally formidable impact.” - M-Music & Musicians

"The Light Shines" is Adam Falcon’s most recent effort. The EP, released in 2015, marks his fifth recording to date. The moods on this record will take you on a ride from New Orleans to the Caribbean and drop you off somewhere in the Delta, with stops along the way.

He’s been playing festivals and jazz clubs in the New England region since the release of his first album. JB’s Band was also featured on Boogaloo to McDuff, a tribute to Jack McDuff, available on Scufflin’ Records. Drew Bordeaux has opened for Daughtry and Boz Scaggs and performed at the 2016 Pleasantville Music Fest. Catch this up-close-and-personal performance.

Drew's sets are rooted in percussive acoustic guitar and earthy/soulful vocals, laced with live loops and violin solos. Drew meshes together core influences including classics like Fleetwood Mac and BB King to Talking Heads and Stone Temple Pilots -- with contemporaries like Mumford and Sons and Hozier to Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift. The resulting sound is often considered a mix of Ben Harper and Jimi Hendrix, his vocals reminiscent of Eddie Vedder and Darius Rucker.

TONIGHT, Drew will be joined by Elena Bonomo on drums and other special guests.

Drew's performed at an impressive list of venues, including Bostons the Middle East and Sanders Theater, and NYCs the Bitter End, Ace of Clubs, and CBGB, and is a 12 Grapes favorite.
