| This rollercoaster journey through actor/singer Paul Robeson’s remarkable life highlights his pioneering and heroic political activism as well as his music. It features Ol’ Man River and other famous songs, much fiery oratory, and a defiant testimony to the House Un-American Activities Committee. One of the highlights of the play is the infamous Peekskill Riots of August and September 1949. | Country music fans remember Donna Ulisse from her days when she was signed to Atlantic Records in the early 1990’s where she released a critically acclaimed album Trouble at The Door with three singles and two videos. She was also a guest on many national television shows including Hee Haw, Nashville Now, Crook and Chase and NBC’s Hot Country Nights. These days Donna Ulisse is a key figure in the bluegrass, folk and acoustic music scene as a singer and songwriter. In 2015 she released her ninth bluegrass album, Hard Cry Moon, making a return to mostly original material and produced by Bryan Sutton. Past albums have charted prominently in Bluegrass Unlimited charts, The Folk DJ National chart, Americana Music Charts and Billboard Bluegrass chart. Electronic cellist, Ashley Bathgate, visits GARNER for an evening of food, drinks and an evening of art intersecting with technology. Bathgate’s performance will be accompanied by three decades of film and video work by artist, M. Henry Jones.
Bathgate is a member of the award winning, Bang on a Can All-Stars & currently collaborating with Brooklyn-based collective Sleeping Giant and has worked with; Bryce Dessner (The National), DJ Spooky, Philip Glass, Glenn Kotche (Wilco), Meredith Monk, Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire), Questlove and The Legendary Roots Crew, Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth).

Playing classic rock, Unfunded Mandate is music with a cause. Unfunded Mandate is a band of Lakeland School District staff who have been playing together for four years. All of the proceeds from Unfunded Mandate go to helping kids. "It's the love of music and giving back to our community that makes this so much fun." says Dr. Stone, both the drummer in the band and the Lakeland Superintendent. The band includes Lakeland Superintendent Dr. George Stone on drums, Assistant Principal at Walter Panas High School Chris Cummings on lead guitar, Troy Payson, Head Custodian at Walter Panas on bass and Pat Riley, a music teacher at George Washington Elementary on keyboards. Rob Bergmann, the Principal of Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School is the male lead singer, with Liz Pezzulo a preschool teacher at Walter Panas and Theresa Wilkowski, the district Director of English Language Arts handling the female vocals.
