TThe Durham County Poets are 5 musicians with a backlog of tunes and varied influences that offer a new vibe and fresh approach to music. They met in 2011, and by July 2012 their first album ‘Where the River Flows’ was released. It was produced by drummer John McColgan who drew on years of experience recording and performing with artists such as Emmy Lou Harris, the McGarrigle Sisters and Michael Jerome Browne. Fast forward to 2015: Their second album ‘Chikkaboodah Stew’ covers the gamut from folk to blues, jazz to crooner, swing to ballad and even a little rock, prog and gospel influences. Peppered with Hammond B3 organ, horns, stellar violin and clarinet and some over the top backup singing, this is a stew meant to be savoured and preferably jarred so one can try it at their leisure. Durham County Poets are: Lead singer-Kevin Harvey, electric & acoustic guitars-David Whyte, acoustic guitar-Neil Elsmore, double bass-Carl Rufh & percussion- James Preimel. Worth listening to!!!

Hudson Valley Sallie
Folk/Traditional
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Rooted in the tradition of activist folk music, Hudson Valley Sallie has an unending chain that goes back centuries and spans the globe. We are dedicated to keeping alive some of the oldest songs, and introducing some of the newest. In fact, each set typically includes some songs more than a century old and some less than a year old. While harmonic patterns and rhyme styles have evolved over the decades, we are not afraid to experiment with tradition. Our goal is to make the oldest songs sound fresh, and to make the newest feel like you've always known them. Most remarkable of all is how little many of the themes have changed - peace, poverty, and justice were the heart of the movements then, and still are today. Our unique combination of musical sensibilities produces a new voice that adds one more link in the chain.
