Opening Act
with Rabbit in the Rye, Joseph Mettler, Alexander Lavon, Brendan O'Connor
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
This progressive folk rock trio, Rabbit in the Rye, is an old beaten leather pair of work boots. Today's wood fire and the yearning of yesterday's, still hot. The vacant and forgotten American image. The portrait of a young man. The lore of the land. Finding home at the end of the long walk. Leaving and coming back. Sweat and sleep. Guilty and vulnerable love.

Rabbit in the Rye is a collection of bittersweet fables and genuine storytelling. Allegory and honesty. Carefully crafted as if at a moments notice it could break. Deliberately fragile and traditionally progressive. Stark movement and all-enveloping fantastic realism. Poeticism. Romanticism. Rapturous walls of sound, yet sweet and somber waltzes. The creation and breaking of tension, dynamic and linear in composition.

Featuring Joseph Mettler on guitar and harmonica, Alexander Lavon on bass, and Brendan O'Connor on percussion and mandolin.

New CD
with Jesse Harris with Star Rover
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Veteran singer, songwriter, musician, and Grammy-winning Harris had his breakthrough in 2003, having written Norah Jones’ first and biggest hit “Don’t Know Why.” He has had a vibrant solo career of his own, writing for and collaborating with artists such as Bright Eyes, Cat Power, Feist, M. Ward, Melody Gardot, Mike Patton, John Zorn, Solomon Burke, Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris.

"No Wrong No Right" draws inspiration from Neil Young’s approach on "After the Goldrush". “Some of that record was done with Crazy Horse, and it’s a rock record,” Harris explains, “but then you also have these hushed acoustic folk songs, and it keeps shifting back and forth between the two distinct moods."

The elements of the album are an inspired set of full-band tunes recorded with guitarist Will Graefe and drummer Jeremy Gustin of the experimental duo Star Rover; a more subdued, acoustic-anchored series of duets with guitar virtuoso Julian Lage; and a trio of evocative instrumental tracks.

He emerged out of the Boston music scene during a time when contemporary folk was beginning to come into the mainstream. Now, Ellis has 20+ years of playing 150 to 200 shows annually, 19 record releases, a documentary film, a book of poems & short stories, an award winning children's book project, as well as songs featured on Hollywood soundtracks. SATURDAY JANUARY 24TH 2015- ANOTHER AMAZING GUITARIST WILL BE TAKEN THE STAGE @ BRIAN'S BACKYARD BBQ -ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAMER- FROM JOAN JETT AND THE BLACK HEARTS " RICKY BYRD " AND HIS BAND WILL BE ROCKIN' THE BBQ!!!

SO ALL YOU JOAN JETT FANS HERE IS A CHANCE TO SEE JOAN JETT GUITARIST - RICKY BYRD UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

RICKY BYRD-Byrd is probably most closely identified with the monstrous power chords that helped define Joan Jett and the Blackhearts’ platinum cover of “I Love Rock & Roll,” and ensure its eternal rotation daily throughout the universe. His blistering rhythms and soaring leads played equally powerful roles in the Blackhearts’ subsequent great hits. Byrd remains eternally grateful for the opportunity to orbit the globe more frequently than the space shuttle and live out the “Number One with a Bullet” dream most mortals only fantasize about. But after a dozen years, it was time for a change.

His most recent CD, "Love Is A Cage" features an eclectic mix of songs, honed by hundreds of live performances and showcasing Milazzo's years of performing. Reflective of his time spent in NYC, the CD has come from broken relationships, interactions gone wrong, and stories of lost love affairs of the past.

"During his set he will cover big name acts from Muddy Waters to Johnny Cash ... We think of Elvis Costello at times" - William Glenn

Mike has performed as an opening act for Donovan, Richie Havens, and Levon Helm. We're excited to present Mike & Broken Arrow to our 12 Grapes stage.

In so many ways, this music is so refreshing; excellent arrangements, interesting repertoire, all put together with the care and love that can only come from true dedication and appreciation for the kind of swinging jazz that one doesn't hear nearly enough nowadays. Didn't find your favorite musician or venue? Let them know about it! We depend on musicians and venues to keep this calender current. It costs them nothing to advertise here, so tell them you were looking for them on HVmusic.com. Thanks.
