The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Marshall Crenshaw received his first big break playing John Lennon in the off-Broadway company of Beatlemania. In 1987, he played Buddy Holly in the Richie Valens biopic “La Bamba.”

While living in NYC, he recorded the single “Something’s Gonna Happen” for Alan Betrock’s Shake Records, which led to a deal with Warner Bros. His debut album, Marshall Crenshaw was acclaimed as a pop masterpiece upon its release in 1982 and established him as a first-rate songwriter, singer and guitarist. The record spawned the Top 40 single “Someday, Someway,” which rockabilly singer Robert Gordon covered and scored a hit with a year earlier.

“Although he was seen as a latter-day Buddy Holly at the outset, he soon proved too talented and original to be anyone but himself.”-Trouser Press

“He writes songs that are melodic, hooky and emotionally true, and he sings and plays them with an honesty and force that still finds room for humor without venom.” -All Music Guide

with Ben Fields
Singer-Songwriter
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
After a chance meeting with Sire Records’ legendary Seymour Stein at a music conference in Australia, Stein offered Fields his business card and told him to look him up if he was ever in NYC. Fields packed up his girlfriend, their dog, furniture and lives and moved from Australia to NYC; showing up at Stein’s office with a 12-track album. He was signed to Sire in November 2012 and is currently finishing his debut full length, Extraordinary Light.

Ben Fields is bringing a style of introspective songwriting pioneered by artists like Nick Drake and Van Morrison back into the mainstream. A stylistic homogeny of Harry Nilsson, The Beatles, Curtis Mayfield, and Lowell George gives his most recent album, Extraordinary Light, a sound that defined an era. Fields sets the tone of the album with 'Swede' - A John Lennon Songwriting Award winner.

Her work is attuned to the rhythmic and melodic qualities of the universe, and addresses the past, the present and the future, always keeping in mind that everything has a beginning and an end.

RIVER SPIRIT MUSIC
Hastings-on-Hudson, NY   See Map
Since his first solo concert in 1996, Fred has traveled all over the U.S. and Europe singing his songs of hope and struggle at all types of venues, building a devoted following along the way. At every performance, he opens his heart and pours out the unglamorous but compelling tales of the marginalized and forgotten. His songs have often been described as both painfully intimate and universal, and this is what he strives for in writing them. His live performances are spontaneous celebrations of all that it is to be human; the joy and the pain, the comedy and the tragedy. He has been voted "best folk artist" for three straight years in Westchester Weekly. His music has also been played on independent, commercial, public, and college radio all over the world. His latest album, Silence Of The Night, brings him back slightly to his rock roots, while also retaining a folky message and delivery.

Dizzy Gillespie famously said “One foot in the past and one in the future,” to which could be added--if you are talking about the music of Michael Wolff and Mike Clark--with feet firmly planted in the here and now.

A musician’s musician, Michael Wolff has earned his reputation as an original pianist and composer who creates his own harmonic world in his improvisations while never losing sight of the groove.

A true ambassador of rhythm, Clark is known around the world for his diverse and innovative playing. He brings that spark to whatever genre-- blues, funk post bop--he encounters, ignites a fire, and fans the flames.

Defying set boundaries of genre, together they bring a combination of swing and groove with a unique deconstructive take on classic jazz, popular standards, and original compositions that creates a freedom in the sound that electrifies their listeners and audiences wherever they play.

NEW YORK CONVERSATIONS
with Kendra Shank & John Stowell Duo, Kendra Shank, John Stowell
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
New York vocalist Kendra Shank and Portland, Oregon guitarist John Stowell have been having musical conversations for over two decades, resulting in a deep synergy. Their highly personal and interactive sound infuses a mix of modern jazz originals, reimagined standards, bossa novas, folk songs, and free improvisations. Moods range from syncopated swing to mixed meter jaunts, intimate tender ballads, and the evocatively experimental.

Stowell plays pianistic chords and rich unexpected harmonies on a colorful array of guitars: electric, steel string acoustic, nylon acoustic, and fretless. In addition to her compelling interpretations of lyrics, Shank employs electronic looping and effects to improvise multi-layered wordless collages in organic interplay with Stowell.

The duo stops at The Falcon on a tour celebrating their new album, New York Conversations, which sprang from an impromptu Manhattan recording session and captures the playful immediacy of music created in the moment.

This eccentric jass trio takes the very best in classic jass and originals, and twists and bends them into what they call ‘evocative, exotic jass. In this ‘trio virtuosi’, nothing is sacred.....improv is rampant...lyrics are changed at will...notes and chords are bent and perverted...familiar languages are obliterated....harmonies are sweet and sour perfection......tunes are put through a fun house mirror, and yet, serious, sophisticated and uncompromising in execution. The union is one in-tune, out-of-tune, offbeat outfit.

MOTHERLODE Trio w/ special guests, Benefit Concert for the Haldane School Foundation

Towne Crier Cafe

Beacon, NY   See Map
MotherLode has appeared on Good Morning America and NBC's Today Show; and in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and The London Times, which labeled their music "emotionally honest straight-from-the heart-folk." Coining titles such as Bad Mutha Blues and Are We There Yet, their tunes originally traced their journeys as parents, but have matured over their ten year tenure to capture audiences beyond the fringe of parental guidance. "Their superior harmonies, complemented by their endearing personal closeness, radiates throughout the performance. The originality of their compositions and the clever way they apply their real-life experiences to music is captivating. MotherLode trio is original, enticing and different" –NewportJazz-NYC.com

The Haldane School Foundation is a community based, nonprofit organization that works closely with the Haldane school in Cold Spring to provide extra help and raise needed funding for school related projects.

Joe Louis WalkerThe FALCON
1348 Route 9W

Joe Louis Walker is a walking encyclopedia of blues history, and blues vocal and guitar styles.

In many ways, Walker’s story is unusual. Born in San Francisco on Christmas Day 1949, he's now based in Westchester, New York. He was part of the Bay area blues scene in his early teens, and by the time he was 16 he had soaked up the sounds of the likes of T-Bone Walker, Amos Milburn, and boogie woogie pioneers Meade Lux Lewis and Pete Johnson. As he grew up, he found himself on stage with such disparate tutors as John Lee Hooker, Thelonius Monk, the Soul Stirrers, Steve Miller and Jimi Hendrix.

Walker's career stretches decades as well as a variety of musical styles, including gospel, blues, rock and jazz. Along the way he played President George Bush’s inauguration, helped President Bill Clinton induct B.B. King into the Kennedy Centre Awards, and performed on several of America’s most-watched late-night television shows.

After his recent smash success with the Boston Pops, he was hailed by the Boston Globe for “reinvigorating the Great American Songbook and re-popularizing jazz.” Before a recent show in the northwest, the local paper quipped “John Pizzarelli is so impossibly cool, he shouldn’t be legally allowed to enter Oregon!” — a genuine quality you may have noticed in the popular casino TV ads that featured him. This will be John's first appearance at the TCC since his father, jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli headlined here.
