Marco BeneventoThe FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
For more than a decade pianist Marco Benevento has been amassing an extensive resume of composition and collaboration. His studio albums have set forth a vision that connects the dots between Explosions In The Sky and Tortoise on one side, Brian Eno and Brad Mehldau on the other. In the live setting, his performances reverberate with pulsating dance rock energy, which has led to numerous high profile appearances, ranging from Carnegie Hall to Celebrate Brooklyn, Newport Jazz to Bonnaroo. Benevento’s been invited to open for The Books, Ben Folds and Rubblebucket, while headlining shows from coast to coast.

The 35-year old artist took a major step forward with the release of his most recent album, TigerFace. The ten-track collection is painted in a myriad of sonic colors, shimmering with acoustic piano, synths and analog keyboards, while the songs are seemingly conceived from every wisp of melody, hook and cadence that's ever tickled his ear.

Rhythm in the Night is an epic journey derived from a tale of good versus evil where deception reigns and temptation rivals the strongest of wills. The tale of Rhythm in the Night is told through Irish dance with a world class troupe of male and female dancers. Adding to the drama and excitement of the production, Rhythm in the Night features an original soundtrack that delivers an orchestral atmosphere of epic proportions. The battle scenes transcend the struggle of dark versus light as lightning fast rhythms and a thunderous dance troupe display Irish dance like never seen before. Rhythm in the Night offers a grand, full scale 90-minute production. Rhythm in the Night will be a performance the entire family can enjoy, as it turns an age-old art form into the most exciting Irish dance spectacular ever to be experienced. Fusing the vision of an activist with the unblinking eye of a truth-teller, John Flynn’s music speaks deeply to the heart and the spirit. A wordsmith and poet of rare clarity, he evokes our shared humanity as he addresses the times we live in through songs that resound with awareness, irony, humor and compassion. The open heartedness and resonant decency in Flynn’s work have made him a staple of Phil Ochs Song Nights across the country, and brought him the respect and friendship of longtime heroes like Kris Kristofferson and Arlo Guthrie. Sally Millbury Steen of Pacem in Terris calls John Flynn “A troubadour of justice, mercy and hope.” In an era of deep division, John Flynn's songs call us together as they speak for the wounded, the weary, and the afflicted; for the prisoner, the soldier, and all the forgotten ones who walk unseen in our midst.

Sculptor Sydney Cash mounts a three month ”work-in-progress” exhibition at The Falcon in Marlboro NY, beginning February 2014.

The show will feature Cash’s new dimensional paintings and portraits in space-modulating installations. Some pieces will span the entire width of the club. Some will include the tables, integrating elements of his light sculpture to the surprise and delight of the Falcon audience!

What does this Work-in-Progress mean? It means the show is alive. It will change frequently as Cash respond to the space, the music and the experience on a weekly basis.

Sydney Cash's studios are nearby in Marlboro. With a key to the club, his work-in-progress may happen at any time, day or night. This is a very special opportunity for the artist, whose experimental ideas will be manipulated in continuing improvisation, complimenting the music being performed, and engaging an audience that wants to be thrilled with “all that jazz”.

For more than six decades, the legendary Bucky Pizzarelli has had a stellar career. “The complete jazz musician”, he was a fixture in jazz and the studios since the early ‘50s. The list of big bands and vocalists with whom Bucky has performed and recorded reads like a veritable Who’s Who of Jazz. One of the era’s most solid rhythm players, Pizzarelli was in high demand, playing and touring. His superior mastery of the seven-string guitar is unparalleled.

Ed is a seven-string guitarist and vocalist, performing in concerts and clubs throughout the New York area, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Feinstein’s, Smalls Jazz Club, The Iridium, Birdland, PNC Arts Center, Bickford Theatre, NJ-PAC, Berrie Performing Arts Center, and Les Paul Museum. Early 2013, he released his first CD with Bucky Pizzarelli.

Peekskill, NY   See Map
LBK is way more fun than singing to a pre-recorded track! 12 Grapes' Live Band Karaoke is like traditional karaoke -- people choose a song from a list and sing when it's their turn-- but instead of a pre-recorded background track, the participants sing with a LIVE backing band, and even back-up singers.

The band will have a varied song list from the '70s, '80s, '90s, contemporary rock and more so check the list when you get here.

If you're a musician, sign up as usual for Rock Jam.

Hosted by JP Patrick, with Tito Wilson on drums, Chris Burke on keys, Artie Walker on bass and other special guests.

Sign-up between 8 & 10PM. PA, mics, drums, keys and amps provided.

The show will feature Cash’s new dimensional paintings and portraits in space-modulating installations. Some pieces will span the entire width of the club. Some will include the tables, integrating elements of his light sculpture to the surprise and delight of the Falcon audience!

Cash has been part of The Falcon family since its inception as a legendary house concert venue in 2001, and has continued to collaborate with The Falcon, its mission and its vibration. His optical panels were a permanent part of the original Falcon's permanent collection. Most memorably, a bright transparent structure of red yarn - created in front of a performance by the Kelvin Sholar group - jumping, wiggling and jiving with the music.

What does this Work-in-Progress mean? It means the show is alive. It will change frequently as Cash respond to the space, the music and the experience on a weekly basis.

"She is one of those wonderful spirits; she's got her arms around you. You can feel that." - Levon Helm

"It's a rare thing to share the stage with great talent like that young lady." - B.B. King

Artfully blending the lines between gospel and blues music for a dozen years or so has been vocalist/songwriter Alexis P. Suter, the daughter of a singer, Carrie Suter, who sang backing vocals with Harry Belafonte and Mahalia Jackson. Suter recalls listening to Ruth Brown on the radio and she cites the late classic R&B singer as a primary influence.

The band includes backup singer Vicki Bell and drummer Ray Grappone, the principal owners and sound engineers at Hipbone Records, as well as guitarist Jimmy Bennett, bassist Peter Bennett with Benny Harrison's passionate keyboard wizardry and vocals. They have recorded two albums for Brooklyn-based record label, Hipbone Records.

Jazz Violist Alva Anderson's Trio
Jazz
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Violist and vocalist Alva Anderson moves easily between musical genres, playing with the Harlem Symphony, Allegro Chamber Ensemble or Sphinx Symphony Orchestra to Jazz in July in Amherst, MA, the LGC Jazz Festival in Brooklyn, and the Saratoga Jazz Festival in Saratoga, NY.

Alva was on tour in Europe with a chamber music ensemble, when late one night at a jam session in a jazz club in Switzerland, a friend invited her to the microphone to sing. It was then that she found what she calls her second voice; her viola being her first.

Back in the States Alva frequented jam sessions throughout NYC; attended vocal and instrumental workshops; and has performed, both as violist and vocalist, with Carmen MacRea, Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Beres Hammond, Buju Banton, Makanda Ken McIntyre, Grammy award winner Jimmy Seigler, and Anthony Braxton, among others.

This is a performance of the Lady Got Chops Women's Music Festival.
