Cajun/Zydeco, Dance, and Cajun/Zydeco
St. Luke's
850 Wolcott Ave
Beacon, NY   See Map
Krewe de la Rue is a Cajun band born out of the Hudson Valley fiddle and dance community. The Krewe traces its roots back to the fiddle and dance camp at Ashokan where in the late 1980's the great fiddler and 'Cajun Ambassador' Dewey Balfa along with his young protege Steve Riley first brought Cajun music to the Hudson Valley. Roger Weiss on fiddle, Buffy Lewis on guitar, Laren Droll on accordion, Maggie McManus on tee-fer, Gary Graeff on bass, and June Drucker on drums have years of experience in roots music including both Cajun and Zydeco genres. Together as a group, they create the special mix that is Krewe de la Rue. Buffy Lewis will teach basics of two-step and waltz at 6pm. Even if you have never danced, you will want to once you hear this energized and engaging band. Food other refreshments available for purchase. Large Dance Space with great wooden floor. Hailing from New York City, "genre-busting" Blues guitarist Dave Fields is a virtuoso whose performances are always electrifying, awe-inspiring and intensely passionate. Dave Fields has worked with many musical legends including Aretha Franklin, Lenny Kravitz, Sean Lennon, The Drifters and Tommy James.

Joining Dave tonight will be JT Lauritsen, a Blues artist from Norway whose band, JT Lauritsen and the Buckshot Hunters, perform around the globe. The Blues harp and accordion (his "squeezebox") are JT's signature sound. Add that to the virtuoso guitar playing of Dave Fields and you're in for one sweet night of Blues. The sheer chemistry of these two is electrifying, and JT's squeezebox exudes a sound and feeling that can't be beat.

Marlboro, NY   See Map
Hudson Valley singer/songwriter Willa McCarthy debuted her new band at The Falcon in early September to a standing-room only crowd and everyone had such a good time, we asked her to come back for a repeat performance.

McCarthy has been an active performer in the Hudson Valley for more than a decade, most notably as a member of The Chris O'Leary Band. She met acclaimed and award-winning singer/harp player Chris O’Leary a few years before he became the lead singer for Levon Helm's Barn Burners. When O’Leary launched his own band in 2008 and invited her to join, she jumped at the chance. Of McCarthy, O'Leary has said, "she's my favorite person in the world to sing with."

McCarthy’s vocals are powerful and soulful and her band plays a mix of blues, funk, R&B and rock—including original and cover material—and features Josh Stacy on guitar, Scott Milici on keys, Doug Abramson on bass and Jerry Teters on drums.

Danny Whitecotton
Acoustic
Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe
40 West MArket Street
Red Hook, NY   See Map
Danny’s sound is unique and has been described by Albany’s Times Union Newspaper as “sad and and sorrowful” but “there is always a hint of hope lingering.”. At times his finger picking acoustic style is so nuanced that the most raucous crowds become quiet just to listen then are jolted back by some of Danny’s foot tapping rhythms and catchy lyrics. The songs have a familiarity that people connect with instantly and it isn’t unusual to have them humming in your head days after. However, trying to pin him to an artist he sounds like is difficult. Like Danny’s trip to the northeastern United States, his folk driven genre meanders between the influences of his past. In his travels Danny’s style has been compared to that of Mark Erelli, Ryan Adams, or Conor Oberst. While he says he doesn’t mind the comparison the real truth is that this is a unique singer-songwriter with a style all his own. If you haven’t heard Danny Whitecotton yet, you are missing out.

These two talented singers will surprise and delight you.

Jessi Mason likes to cover new music and reinvent old classics to give them a modern twist. Jessi is also a songwriter. "Fly Away" is about the stress of high school and "Where Have You Been?" is a love song about her one true love: her guitar.

Chloe Gordon is a singer/songwriter from Edgemont, New York. She composes mainly on guitar in styles that have been compared to Corinne Bailey Rae and Feist. Also an avid reader, writer, and thinker, Chloe believes that music is the most spiritual and personal way to express what otherwise remains unsaid. She hopes that her music touches people in the way that others’ music has touched her.

Known as "The Master of the Telecaster," music lovers consider Arlen Roth "the guitarist's guitarist," a brilliant musician, but that's only one aspect of his remarkable 35-year career. He is a highly regarded authority concerning "all things guitar," from writing about guitar playing, to being the inspiration behind their creation, due to his fluent mastery, and rare ability to seamlessly cross over musical genres and playing styles.

His legendary guitar prowess crosses all genres, all styles, and all types of guitar playing, including one of his specialties, slide guitar. He fluidly moves from folk and blues to country tunes, and has played some of the most resounding rock ever recorded.

Tonight's band features Eddie Denise on Bass, Shannon Ford on Drums, and Chris Foley on 2nd guitar.

These two play free, while operating like an old-school working band.”

— Hank Shteamer, Time Out New York

After the remarkable performance by Bern Nix and François Grilliot officially opening the revived Quinn's in Beacon, NY last Monday, the weekly jazz sessions in Beacon now continue at the new venue with The Moon, an experimental duo from Brooklyn, NY, featuring Adam Caine on electric guitar and Federico Ughi on drums. Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, respectively, singer-songwriter Melody Walker and picker extraordinaire Jacob Groopman have fused their influences into a style they like to call “Americali.” They define it as Americana with a California twist, but of course, it’s much more.

Drawing from diverse genres and provocative songwriting yet staying close to their American folk roots, the duo create literate music that honors tradition, yet sounds completely of the moment. Melody was recently named a winner of the Chris Austin Songwriting competition at Merlefest for her song "Black Grace".

Marlboro, NY   See Map
NY based singer/songwriter Dan Lavoie's style brings a fresh new sound to the table with influences of rock, folk, blues, classical and funk jam messed together to create what many have called traveling music.

Lavoie's musical journey started at the age of 12 in his hometown of Pawling, NY. His biggest influence at that point was his older brother Mikie. Dan would flip his brother Mikie's right handed guitar upside down and play left handed. Dan embraced the path of a singer/songwriter while staying true to his electric roots. He will tour performing both solo acoustic shows as well as full electric shows.

Lavoie's influences include Jack Johnson, Cliff Burton, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia, Alman Brothers, Trey Anastasio and Dave Mathews. Lavoie has made a name for himself touring across the US and has placed #7 on Hudson Valley's TOP TEN Best Concerts for his show at the Towne Crier Cafe.

An Evening of Swing, Stride & Boogie Woogie Piano
with Scott Staton, Chase Garrett, Rudy Feinauer on drums, and Tommy
Swing, Stride, Boogie Woogie Piano
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
This special event recaptures the early American art form of the Swing, Stride and Boogie Woogie Piano-style of piano playing. Boogie-woogie exploded onto the American music scene in the 1930's and '40s. Based on a 12-bar blues and known for its up-tempo beat and tendency to get people dancing, boogie-woogie shows up in such musical styles as Swing, Chicago blues, and West Coast blues.

Chase Garrett, a native Iowan, began playing piano at age nine and by seventeen was performing professionally across the U.S. In his travels he has shared the stage with some of today's most influential blues, boogie woogie and jazz pianists. Chase's playing will blow you away!

Scott is a pianist and producer who's performed and toured with Denny Leroux & the Peter Duchin Orchestra for 17 years, and with artists such as T.S. Monk and many others.

Each talented artist will perform his own set, with the finale featuring "dueling keys".
