Dan Strauss
Acoustic, Singer-Songwriter

Dan Strauss has become a favorite NYC and Hudson Valley singer-songwriter with an intimate vocal style. His music could be described as indie-folk, country, pop or rock, evoking all the styles he grew up on, from the melodic hooks of the Beatles and Elvis Costello to the warmth of James Taylor and Nick Drake to the storytelling style of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. Finding songwriting inspiration from contemporary artists like Wilco, Feist and The Shins, Dan writes openly and expressively about life, love and occasionally, his own musical instruments. Dan plays regularly, alone with his bluegrassy band. He has independently released three CD's, "Renting Happiness", "Rocking Chair"and "Circles".

"Mint Green Bee" from Gustafer Yellowgold’s Wide Wild World was a Grand Prize Winner in the Children’s Category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

with The Dan Brother Band, Jason Upchurch, Pedro “Big Thurrsty” Johnson
Blues. Rock, Soul
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Since his teens, Dan Brother has been performing in venerable local blues clubs. Now in his twenties, Dan’s star is rising faster than ever. Having turned all that early on-stage learning into a sound all his own, Dan’s high energy performances are drawing fans new and old to an increasing number of gigs and venues every month. Dan’s fans expect a mix of blues, soul, rock & roll, and the band accommodates, with sets that go from low-down monstrous slow blues to booty-grooving ecstatic funk.

Fiery guitar work is Dan’s forte. He twists and squeezes notes out of his guitar with furious aplomb, often leaving all kinds of audiences – from young college crowds to older fans of guitar music – with a look of “whoa” on their faces.

Dan’s band, eponymously named, currently features Pedro “Big Thurrsty” Johnson on drums and Jason Upchurch on electric bass guitar. The roots power trio format of The Dan Brother Band is also often augmented with some of Dan’s longtime musical friends.

Native of Valencia, Spain, Javier Vercher spent 10 years in NYC cutting his own records and discovering new ways of playing. In 2010 he returned to Valencia. Settling back into the rhythms of his homeland, Vercher says, “I feel focused on the music, taking care of the music, studying sound, having a regular life. I need to learn in a different way – not only about jazz, but more about other aspects of life and how to insert these concepts into my playing and writing.”

The Old Time Music Band is an ensemble, created by a student and a member of the faculty member at Poughkeepsie Day School in the early 2000’s. This was a group welcoming all the school's musicians to play songs together within the realm of folk and country/rock - “old time music”.

With the graduation of the founding student, the band discontinued for a year. However, the following year, it was revived by the students and musicians Erica Enriquez (vocals, guitar, ukulele) and Sophia Ptacek (vocals), with the sound and ambiance of the original ensemble, and an added flair of “new old time” songs – more modern folk, in addition to the classic tunes the group played.

Tonight the group will be playing a selection of “old and new time” music, along with original songs written by Erica Enriquez.

Featuring Erica Enriquez/Vocals, Guitar, Ukulele, Sophia Ptacek /Vocals, Anya Ptacek/ Banjo, Adam DePaz/Bass, Liam Appelson/Trumpet, Jack Gorman /Drums and Chenlong Fan/Violin.

If you took your copies of Deja Vu, Bookends, Full Moon Fever and Disraeli Gears and melted them into one L.P. it might sound like Lost Leaders, the alchemical brew of Peter Cole and Byron Isaacs.

The project was born at Levon Helm's studio in Woodstock, N.Y. in the winter of 2011. The barn was a second home for Byron, bass player for the Levon Helm Band, performing at the Midnight Rambles and on Levon's "Dirt Farmer" and "Electric Dirt" albums, both of which featured Byron's songwriting. Peter and Byron took a week between Saturday Rambles and, with the winter sunlight coming through the plate-glass windows, worked out original tunes with Grammy-winning house engineer Justin Guip running back and forth from drum kit to console.

The duo distills the songs to their most essential elements: their two voices and two guitars contrast with the lushness of the studio recordings.

12 Grapes continues our 4th Thursday Indie band showcase with Coyote Campus. This New York-based band claims they are a "thrilling combination of piano, drums, bass, and horns," describing their music as, "the sound of discovery and constantly changing emotional states, all above a relentless beat."

Under creative direction of Sean McVerry, Jonathan Sacca & Brendon Caroselli, Coyote Campus recorded their first EP, "People You Know". Constantly writing, the arrangements called for more sound. "Horn sounds, that is." Enter Andrew Russell and Andrew Cowie.

Now a tight, original and creatively diverse band, Coyote Campus is starting to make a name for themselves at prestigious clubs in NYC like Rockwood Music Hall and others. Band members have shared the stage with acts such as Jukebox the Ghost, Jenny Owen Youngs, Sam Bradley and many more.

Join us tonight and support live original, independent artists and their music!

You could say RoseAnn Fino grew up in the sticks - on a farm far enough away from any town, but close enough to New York City that she could feel its pull from an early age. Her parents were avid fans of 'ole country standards and rock & roll. She grew up in nightclubs and concert halls, following musicians that would be her idols. When she was five her father put a guitar in her hands. Eighteen years later, she still hasn’t put it down.

RoseAnn headed to NYC when she was seventeen. There she found her voice as a songwriter, while keeping her country roots. She graduated from Hunter College with a degree in music and writing. Today, she lives in Queens with her friends and a black cat named Luna, writing songs by day and slinging drinks by night as a bartender. She is currently gigging around the city and finishing her first album, produced by Professor Louie, to be released later this year on Woodstock Records.

Rex Fowler & Neal Shulman met in March of 1971 at an open mic in Boston, & exactly one year later, Aztec Two-Step burst on the scene with their 1972 self-titled debut on Elektra Records.

Their first album & subsequent albums for RCA Records were staples of progressive FM & college radio & helped to bring the music of the 1960s into the '70s & beyond. Since then, Fowler and Shulman have spent a lifetime making music together as the folk/rock duo that takes its name from a poem by beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti.

Their most recent recording project, the 2012 studio CD "Cause & Effect" was released to commemorate their 40th Anniversary, & is a 16-song collection with social/ topical themes produced by Paul Guzzone & featuring long-time bassist Fred Holman. The album is a combination of re-worked & newly mined material.

After four decades, Aztec Two-Step is more than ever defined by intelligent songwriting, dazzling acoustic lead guitar & inspiring harmonies.

“This is electric blues with an eclectic and somewhat demented spin. The group’s sense of humor is as much to be appreciated as their hard-rocking, guitar-heavy sound. They sound pretty damn good on the CD, a tight power trio that can get into a driving groove and stay there.” Philip Farber,Kingston Freeman

“The Outpatients are cool musical dudes. The guys make riffin’, rockin,’ fun music that sounds like a cross between Chuck Berry and a funkier version of those early Beatles, or least the Dave Clark Five.” Stephen Israel, The Times Herald Record
