The Cornwall Gazebo on Main Street!
Cornwall, NY   See Map
Funky rocking soul-jazz and blues! Jb (Hammond Organ) toured for over 6 years with Grammy nominated singer Shemekia Copeland. With musical prodigy Myles Mancuso on guitar/vocals and blues veteran Chris Reddan on drums!

Both traditional and trailblazing...Highly recommended. ***Blues Review Magazine***

Baum's playing has a deep funk to it, with a big influence of Jimmy Smith. And Baum also brings in all kinds of other things as well - dissonant jazz, alternative rock, R&B. He's not too far off from what John Medeski does with Medeski, Martin and Wood, but with more of a blues streak to it. ***Jim Trageser. Escondido, Calif. ***

Soñando
Latin to the Max!
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
The hot Latin sounds of Soñando have earned them the reputation as the Hudson Valley's premier Latin band. This spicy blend of music and musicians have performed in clubs, at private functions, community festivals, benefit concerts, on radio and television, as well as the Puerto Rico Day Parade in NYC, but the band is at home wherever a dance floor can be cleared. Fueled by a fiery rhythm section and high-octane horns, Soñando plays a wide variety of Latin styles from Plena and Son to Salsa and Merengue!

"The name of the band is Spanish for "dreaming" but when the hordes come out for Soñando, they don't sleepwalk-they dance. And we're not talking a few perfunctory head-bobs or butt-wiggles, they dance until they go up in flames like, Tula's unquenchable bedroom in the Cuban lyrics above." -Woodstock Times

She was included in the "African American Composers Live" exhibition at Belmont Mansion in Philadelphia; her music has been played on radio stations around the country; her "Sunday Afternoon" CD was included on the play list on the Spirit of Jazz program on Washington DC's WPFW and, continuing her passionate commitment to original music, Skinner is currently promoting her contemporary flute CD release "Shades of Blue".

Laura Meyer
Acoustic, Folk/Traditional, and Blues
Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe
40 West Market Street
Red Hook, NY   See Map
It’s hard to put your finger on Laura Meyer. On the title track of her new album Been Here Before, she starts off sweetly singing: Been here before/ Got a rope against my neck/ Been here before/ I guess I never left. The tender folk vocals don’t prepare you for the striking left turn the album takes next, delivering the hard driving blues of “Motel Room Blues #1.” Meyer looks like a sweet little waif, but there’re dark corners seething under her ingénue exterior.

Alternating between folk and blues, she’s a skinny white chick with soul to burn, and inside are tough-minded songs that simply don’t seem like they could have come from her.

Matuto! "The Heights of World Music!"
World
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
In Brazil, Matuto is slang for Country Boy, but this NYC based group of urbanized virtuosos is emerging as one of the world’s hottest international touring acts. Recently awarded the title of “American Musical Ambassadors” by the U.S. State Department.

An Official Selection of WOMEX 2011, Matuto’s songs can sway hips as easily as spark insights. Drawing on Brazil’s folkloric rhythms like forró and coco, and on deep Americana—from bluegrass to spirituals to swamp jams—Matuto uses unexpected Pan-American sonic sympathies to craft appealing, roosty, yet philosophical tales of love, self-discovery, and true peace. Rolling drums and quicksilver accordion licks, earthy vibes and thoughtful reflections mingle on the latest refinement of their Appalachia-gone-Afro-Brazilian sound, The Devil and The Diamond (Motema Music; release: May 14, 2013).

Rob Norris (Bass)

Prana's only summer concert
with Baird Hersey & PRANA
Tibetan Center
875 Rt. 28
Kingston, NY   See Map
The age old sacred music of Tibetan Buddhist multiphonic chant and Tuvan throat singing are the roots from which PRANA's sound has grown. The technique of these ancient vocalizations is to shape the mouth and throat into a sympathetic resonating chamber for the voice. This produces a second beautiful high whistling harmonic or overtone.

Many of the songs composed by Hersey for the choir are inspired by Indian and Tibetan chants or concepts of yoga philosophy and are sung a cappella.

Join us for a unique evening of healing meditative music with these eleven singers: Baird Hersey, Peter Buettner, Bruce Milner, Joe Veillette, Julian Lines, Bill Ylitalo, Kirsti Gholson, Amy Fradon, Julie Last, Julie Parisi and Renee Finkelstein.

Tickets: $20 at the door, and by calling 845-383-1774 or emailing info@tibetancenter.org.

The song-writing team of Erin Hobson and Steven Ross churn out songs that surprise. This one-of-a-kind ensemble weaves tapestries of musical fare with unexpected depth and sensitivity. The duet’s live show is uplifting and textured - combining musical styles into a sound that’s totally new.

Erin Hobson (guitar/vocals) Hobson is known for her poetic lyrics, masterful guitar technique and unique vocal quality is intimate while her guitar virtuosity and explosive phrasing is anything but soft. The combination often startles. Steven W. Ross (bass/production) Multi-instrumentalist; Ross has scored and played for radio, TV and film, including two original songs in the 2010 Sundance award-winning mock rockumentary “Colin Fitz Lives!” Steven’s arrangements and “never sag, never brag” bass lines are inventive, unique melodic grooves that define The Compact’s sound.

For those unfamiliar with the Hudson Valley Blues Scene, it has been home to such renowned blues talent as Bill Perry, Popa Chubby, Murali Coryell and Little Sammy Davis. It was under the tutelage of these master bluesmen, that Dan Brother began his guitar playing and singing career.

Having shared the stage with mentors like his, it’s no wonder Dan picked up a little of everything along the way – from protest era psychedelia to straight-up blues; classic era soul to southern rock and Texas twang. Fiery guitar work is Dan’s forte. He is also a gifted songwriter. . Dan's upcoming CD will feature a dozen tracks written or co-written by Dan. These road tested songs are proven, danceable grooves with memorable sing-along hooks.

Dan’s band features Pedro “Big Thursty” Johnson on drums and Jason Upchurch on electric bass guitar.

"Bright, amusing and endearing."

"... simply exquisite... Durnin has a way with words."

These are just some of the accolades being written about Molly Durnin. Her songs have been receiving high praise and extensive air time on radio stations in the Albany area. Molly Durnin is, no doubt, an artist to watch.

Raised at the end of a mile-long dirt road, Molly is connected to open spaces, and it comes through in her songs. In the title track of her latest CD, "Run", Molly sings, "I want to see the foxes steal the light from the street lamps tonight and run with them."

Since the release of "Run", Molly has become a sought-after performer in the upper NY music scene, playing top acoustic venues in the area. In her songs, she speculates on the existence of extraterrestrials, sings of temptation, cheap wine and mermaid revenge. Songs like "The Ocean" and "Skipping Town" are fan favorites.

Join us as we welcome Molly to our 12 Grapes stage!
