Rogers Hose Company it was home to the second oldest volunteer fire department in New York State; organized in 1794. The firehouse has been meticulously restored to highlight the original brick walls, wood floors and historic grand wooden staircase."

SPLIT BILL !!
with Willa McCarthy
Blues
The Falcon
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
McCarthy got her start in blues music in 1996, when math professor Ben Lotto, Vassar’s Dean of Freshmen, invited her to a local blues jam. There another math professor, Peter Pappas, was playing guitar. In a word, McCarthy—a singer—was hooked. She started at the bottom of the blues totem pole and worked her way up the ranks of the Hudson Valley blues scene. McCarthy had thought of starting her own band, the Hudson Valley Blues Collective, but when the Chris O’Leary Band launched in 2008 and members invited her to join the then-six-member band (McCarthy makes seven), she jumped at the chance. Lately, McCarthy and the Chris O’Leary Band have been busy—as usual—playing regular gigs throughout the mid-Hudson Valley. The band is also preparing for a European tour.

Marilyn Miller
Acoustic, Singer-Songwriter
Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe
40 West MArket Street
Red Hook, NY   See Map
Hudson, NY and the surrounding towns have been home for singer/songwriter Marilyn Miller for most of her life, and her music often deals with the contradictions inherent in an area which is at once both very rural and very urban. You will find her most often encouraging others at an open mic, having an open jam at her country home, supporting a farmers' market or other cause, or busking on the streets of her hometown. It is no surprise that, given the diversity of her sounds, her favorite musician is Neil Young, a man well known to follow his muse wherever it takes him. His influence is very evident in the songs Marilyn writes, and in how she approaches the art of music. As a performer, Marilyn is most often compared to Patti Smith, no doubt due to the high energy she displays in presenting her work, and her dedication to always seeking the truth in the music. Her goal is to provide the listener with sounds that make a person move, think and feel, and she does deliver.

NAOMI SHELTON AND THE GOSPEL QUEENS
Gospel. & Soul!
The Falcon
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Naomi Shelton is no ordinary gospel singer. Though she, like many others, grew up singing with her sisters in their Alabama church, she has also spent much of her life in the soul clubs around New York, . Now, with her first official full-length release coming this May, it’s clear that her singing is equally influenced by both facets of her life. Cliff Driver is the musical director of the group, and leads the band with his inimitable honky-tonk piano style. Jimmy Hill, the organist on the record, leads his own blues and R&B band and has a pedigree rivaling Driver himself, including a stint in the late sixties backing Wilson Pickett. The record also features guitarist Tommy “TNT” Brenneck and Bosco Mann. The drums on the record were played by Brian Floody, a fixture on the bluesier end of the New York jazz scene who beats an indispensable if understated pulse.

On any given Saturday night, the audience might take part in Play Dough Theatre, or judge a grudge match between two improv directors, or take to the stage in one of the many audience participation games the company offers, or sing along in a rousing improvised chorus, or....hey, you never know.

But let's be clear: Mopco is not affiliated with any state Lottery games.

Folk-pop artist Sloan Wainwright belongs to a musical dynasty of impossibly gifted singer-songwriters. Her family tree (brother and folk-music luminary Loudon Wainwright, sister-in-law Kate McGarrigle, nephew Rufus Wainwright, nieces Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche) reads like a who's who of contemporary folk music. Sloan's incredible gift is not only her unique songwriting ability but her dramatically voiced rendition of her original songs. "She's folk-influenced, obviously (you can't grow up in the First Family of Folk and not be, one imagines), but the real star here is her voice. Warm and smoky and smooth, it makes her earthy, ominous lyrics seem all the more intense." Defying standard categorization, singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright consistently demonstrates her easy command of a variety of American musical styles – pop, folk, jazz and blues – held together by the melodious tone of her rich contralto. The end result: a unique and soulful hybrid.

Pop/Soft Rock
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Cobert Operations has been spied in and around the Hudson Valley on several occasions, and this is their 3rd assignment at 12 Grapes. Their mission is to deploy an eclectic mix of covers by The Band, Leon Russell, Early Stones, Beatles, Professor Longhair and some originals. Intelligence has it that these guys are high-level pros...

The Cobert Operations team includes Jon Cobert -- operations director; Peter Calo -- laser expert; Stu Woods -- low end crowd control; Rob Wallis -- social director; Tim Ouimette -- trumpet and roof repairs; Mark Fineberg - saxophone and roof work (they expect to blow the roof off the joint).

Special activities will be conducted throughout the night. These activities include dancing, shouting "whoo-hoo" and having a general good time. Secret handshakes are also an option.

The team will self-destruct after the show and 12 Grapes will once again disavow all knowledge of their appearance here.

Marlboro, NY   See Map
Join us for some tasty soul-jazz and brunch at the Falcon in Marlboro!! Jb (Hammond Organ) toured for over 6 years with Grammy nominated singer Shemekia Copeland. With musical prodigy Myles Mancuso on guitar/vocals and blues veteran Chris Reddan on drums!

Both traditional and trailblazing...Highly recommended. ***Blues Review Magazine***

Baum's playing has a deep funk to it, with a big influence of Jimmy Smith. And Baum also brings in all kinds of other things as well - dissonant jazz, alternative rock, R&B. He's not too far off from what John Medeski does with Medeski, Martin and Wood, but with more of a blues streak to it. ***Jim Trageser. Escondido, Calif. ***

Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online: www.wtbq.com or 93.5FM, NY   See Map
Music was always a passion for Marc, and after graduating from law school he put his diploma on the shelf and fronted bands that played locally in New York City in venues such as CBGB’s, The Wetlands, and The Knitting Factory. At the same time, Berger also explored the American West, venturing into remote regions of its deserts and mountains. On one such excursion, he discovered “The Big It” by A.B. Guthrie on a revolving rack in a Navajo reservation trading post, and the collection of short stories ignited the idea of using his own travels to create a set of songs in the same cultural tradition. Berger has performed at Austin’s SXSW Music Festival, Kerrville Folk Festival, and has opened shows for Bob Dylan, and other national acts. His song, “The Last One,” has been performed by Richie Havens in the United States and Europe, and has been quoted in the NewYork Times and featured on the CBS Evening News.
