 Bill Sims Jr. - "So much of blues today is about having a good time, dancing, and drinking beer," says Sims. "But I like to present a broader spectrum of the blues because I grew up hearing all of it, and I think it's important for people to be aware of the more complete history of the music. 'I've Got My Mojo Working' and 'Everyday I Have the Blues' are great songs, but they're not he whole story. Many different artists were affected by the blues, and I like to show the relationship between, say, Charlie Patton and Miles Davis, or between Lead Belly and Bob Dylan."
Adam Levy's former "day job" was playing guitar in Norah Jones' band. Not surprisingly, his own music holds some similarities to his ex-boss'. They share certain laid-back musical qualities that swirl jazz, blues and country colorings into the singer/songwriter palette. In fact, Jones covered Levy's "In the Morning" on her Feels Like Home album. |

The audience submits titles of "songs that have never been written". In a fictional "backer's audition", these titles inspire improvised songs in act one. In act two, the audience's favorite song serves as the basis of an entire (45 minute) Broadway musical, complete with costumes and set.
The format received a rave review from The New York Times when it premiered in New York in 1995. You ain’t seen nuttin’ like it, folks!

Robert Carlson has been hard at work as a songwriter and performer and has opened for the following artists: Johnny Winter, Edgar winter, Ronnie Earl, Roomful of Blues, James Cotton, Sugar Blue (Rolling Stones Harmonica player), Vassar Clements, Treat Her Right, Matt "Guitar" Murphy (Blues Brothers), Luther Johnson, Moses Roscoe, Jimmey Buffet at the Tweeter Center (Bud Tent).
He received two Billboard Certificate Awards for two of his songs on a blues rock CD. One tune got to number 6 on the UK Demo Chart 1991.
Rob wrote 6 tunes for the Caribbean/reggae band Dell Smart and Exit/In's latest CD: "Sure 'YA Right!". Released July 2006. Ronnie Earl and Paul Rishell are featured on separate tracks. This CD has received airplay in Belize City, St.Thomas/Virgin Islands, LA, MD and NYC. Received good recognition from performing on FOX TV 10.

The second round will be a presentation of the music of Mark Houghtaling sung by many respected local musicians. Mark wrote the songs for a play called "Exmass" and the music, along with narration between songs, will be performed by Neil Herlands, Kurt Henry, Liana Gabel, Robin Baker, Fran Palmieri, Terri Massardo, Barbara Dempsey, Jude Roberts, and Caitlin O'Brien.  In addition to leading his own groups Erik Lawrence has been a sideman with greats from Allen Toussaint to Sonny Sharrock. Erik is currently a member of Levon Helm's band, with whom he was recently featured on the Grammy winning album Electric Dirt. He has performed Solo improvised saxophone at Carnegie Recital Hall in New York. Erik has been featured at music festivals around the world and has performed with Chico Hamilton, Medeski Martin & Wood, Aaron Neville, Bob Dylan, Buddy Miles, David Bromberg, Bruce Hornsby and many, many others. Erik's teaching includes Williams College, Dartmouth College and Montclair State University. He has been playing the saxophone since he was 5 years old. |

Aaron Nathans has never really written a love song.
This 2011 Kerrville New Folk finalist,a Delaware resident, will yodel about grapefruit, and chant about a heavy metal rocker at his Orthodox Jewish wedding. He rocks out about that girl who shouldn't be wearing Goth clothes anymore, and the curious alchemy that makes an Italian bakery turn out the very best bread on the planet.
Maybe that's love after all: You can hear the joy he takes in crafting a song, in the tradition of Lyle Lovett, Guy Clark and Richard Shindell. He's a polished yet unpretentious performer, with a sweet baritone voice and a signature fingerpicking style. While not exactly a humorist, Nathans inevitably makes you laugh.
He plays solo and as a duo with cellist Michael G. Ronstadt.

 Lucky Peterson was discovered by blues legend Willie Dixon when he was three years old, released his first record at five and soon after appeared on The Tonight Show. Trained by keyboardists Bill Doggett and Jimmy Smith, Peterson went on to play behind Little Milton, Bobby “Blue” Bland and Kenny Neal. On return from the “Young Blues Giants” tour of Europe, he signed first with Alligator, then Verve, Blue Thumb and Birdology/Dreyfus, where he recorded what Amazon.com called “his finest album,” Black Midnight Sun, in 2003. The New Yorker called him “a master of the guitar, organ and microphone Lucky has since gone on to receive major awards, nominations and high praise around the globe for the recording, and for his re-vamped live show, now featuring his lovely and immensely talented wife Tamara Peterson on vocals. |

Scott Feiner’s musical story is not a common one. Not only is he an American pandeiro player, but he also introduced this Brazilian hand drum to the world of jazz in a highly personal way. In 1999, during his first trip to Brazil, Feiner discovered the pandeiro, the instrument which would become his passion and new means of musical expression. He moved to Rio de Janeiro in 2001 and after only a few years became a respected pandeirista, playing in the traditional settings of Rio. However, it is Feiner’s innovative mixture of the pandeiro with jazz which has set him apart. His first CD with his Pandeiro Jazz project, "Pandeiro Jazz" (2006, Delira Música) received international praise and his second CD, "Dois Mundos" (2008, Biscoito Fino), was nominated for a 2009 Latin Grammy Award.
